Really cool video! I think the last time we've seen an elite level cuber go against conventional wisdom to such a large extent but still dominate using their other strengths, it was with Max Park and his rudimentary turning + massive lack of alg knowledge relative to the other top 3x3ers I especially like the fact that you pointed out how having different strengths can lead to developing a different overall style at the advanced level. Reminds me of how Philipp Weyer really capitalizes on his good TPS and look ahead/recognition in exchange for worse efficiency throughout since he pretty much never does anything other than the first thing he sees, which is another unique style we really only see with him at the top Still, you can't decide on a style until you *know* your strengths and weaknesses, and you can't know them until you develop the fundamentals of your solving to a point where you don't have a major deficiency. I'm guessing that Zaiyang Zhang got good at the CFOP basics+turning, and because his turning is so strong using basic triggers he's opted to limit the amount of advanced stuff he uses (I still think he could successfully implement more advanced stuff, but he's want to be a lot more picky and choosey than I am since my turning is more "balanced")

What I took from this video is that RU spamming doesn't really pay off, hahahaha. This guy looks like he has the most insane turning in history and yet he doesn't seem to be even faster than me. And I wouldn't even consider myself a fancy solver, I'm pretty middle of the road in the "zhaiyang-jayden" scale, but a little care for efficiency and fingertricks really goes a long long way to making one a good one hander without having to be really impressive at anything.
@iurigrang
@iurigrang 4 жыл бұрын
Just to clarify: not throwing shade at him. He has insane turning, and that is not something to be taken lightly, as well as a really fast OHer. I just don't really wanna encourage anyone to follow his path, as it's unnecessarily taxing.
@BrodytheCuber
@BrodytheCuber 4 жыл бұрын
How much does that scale apply to roux? I’d imagine there aren’t quite as many advanced options when you automatically have EO
@BrodytheCuber
@BrodytheCuber 4 жыл бұрын
I would also say that his look ahead could be better. He is still making avoidable mistakes and that means he could be saving more time.
@iurigrang
@iurigrang 4 жыл бұрын
@@BrodytheCuber There aren't as many advanced options for roux, but I'd say the scale still aplies. There's a lot of tidying up to do to SB pairs that I haven't done, as well as CMLL algs and LSE solutions, besides insane block building on FB +SB square only being limited by our puny brain imagination. Basically, the Roux jayden is less someone that knows a lot more algs, and more someone who has thought out every step of his solve and considered all the options + is really good at blockbuilding. Also, advanced fingertricks apply just the same as CFOP.
@iurigrang
@iurigrang 4 жыл бұрын
@@BrodytheCuber we seem to be pretty similar in the look ahead aspect of things! Both of us have close to 8 flat official averages on 3x3, and that really shows on our OH.
