Honestly with the amount of progress they've done with just this bit of the railroad it wouldn't surprise me if they could all band together and reopen the entire line.
@larryc8568Ай бұрын
Only if we all keep donating to the Friends of the EBT. It takes a whole lot of money to buy track materials. The rehab of Pogue bridge will be very expensive. Even more will be the rehab of the two tunnels that are just past Saltillo. Every dollar counts. For example, Trains magazine has around 90,000 subscribers. If they each donated five dollars, the EBT would suddenly have nearly half a million. If you are a railman and are not donating, please consider doing so.
@timothylewis998319 күн бұрын
The long term goal IS to get to Robertsdale. They have railcars that you can ride on to the end of the line near Wood. You go riding past the 9 different mines that the EBT served in Common Carrier days. So, read the post below and if you are able to, please donate! Its not cheap to rebuild the RR and lots of work has to be done along the ROW and also track work and infrastructure maintained and rebuilt when needed. (A new Saltillo Station is being planned right now and hopefully work will get started on the new station within a year or earlier.) Keep up to date on all that is happening....its very exciting to see the RR making a historic comeback!
@sqike001ton8 күн бұрын
The major issue is the tunnel on jeweler mountain I 100% think they can make it to the bottom of the mountain and a major reason they have gotten as far as they have is the railroad was sold for scrap 100% complete and Mr kulvalchic(I butchered the name) bought a turn key railroad and everything is still there I think the only rail that has been removed is the ones that cross state roads and a lot of that was done in the 90s as I remember them doing it in wood when I was a kid
@sqike001ton8 күн бұрын
@@timothylewis9983the tracks in wood go to number 9 that little mine cart ride only passes a few to get to when the majority of the mines in wood where you have to go to the active strip mine is today which off of the top of my head is where 6-7-8-9 mines were

That is mind-blowing to see the progress they are making. Revives a veryyyy tiny hope my younger self had about tracks west of Chama.
@Hyce777Ай бұрын
That's a much larger ask, but it would be cool!
@RailsofMichiganАй бұрын
I've had the same thought myself for years when I found out that the right of way between Chama and Durango was ripped down. I would so love to see the two narrow gauge lines reconnected but that is definitely a larger task. But it is possible. So maybe one day it might materialize. Who knows. I would love to see the locomotives from C&TS visit Durango again and locomotives from the D&S visit chama again and it would be awesome if you could run connecting trains from One location to the next but that's a dream but I hope maybe someday it might happen. What's going on with the East broad top has shown me that some dreams can come true the East Broad Top and big boy 4014 have shown me this
@quasimoto7662Ай бұрын
@@RailsofMichigan the big problem is with materials, distance, and the length that would have to be maintained. Any analysis of the San Juan extension between Chama and Durango says that it’s a journey of about 110 miles of track or so. That’s a fairly significant amount of distance and materials that would be required, plus comes the issue of track ownership; who owns the right of way between Chama and Durango? With any case about the EBT, they will always have the rails and the ownership of the track. That makes everything so much easier and so much cheaper in the case of rebuilding. It would cost a ton of money and time to actually re establish the connection between Chama and Durango. But let’s say they actually did it: what’s the appetite for doing so from patrons? I don’t know. That’s a big journey of nearly 200 miles from Antonito to Durango. And that’s asking a lot for maintaining trackage that even many more popular short lines are able to maintain. The ONLY way I can se it be justifiable is if there’s a tangible benefit to have it from a freight perspective: there’s gotta be some substantial enough freight traffic in that portion of the country for us to ever get that re established. Would I like to see it? Would be neat. But it’s understandable why no serious effort has been undertaken

U need to do a video on Colorado Pacific railroad. They reopened the old mopac tower line which has not seen any train since the 1990s and reopened the San Luis Rio Grande recently. They should be awarded Tennessee pass; they want to buy it but its clear that u.p. does not want them to form a competing rail corridor. Its very clear they do not want Tennessee pass or even the Moffat line in general. Selling these lines would create nice freight train competition in an industry which has become monopolized out. People want to run Amtrak over Tennessee pass but there one problem; passeger trains don't make profits, freight makes $$$.

They’ve been pushing east from Sunol toward Pleasanton on a segment of track SP abandoned and ripped up in 1983. ~3.5 miles of new build is needed with 2 miles completed while ~2 miles of previously rebuilt were brought back up to class 2 standards.

What class of track are they doing? Looks at least class 2. It’s quite impressive the work that has been accomplished! Also I can confirm personally, track work is HARD and is rough.
@QuorkQTar25 күн бұрын
From my POV the trackwork is still very historical given it's nailed, not screwed xD But yes, I do know that's the standard track work style in the US and seems to work well for the intents and purposes foreseen to the track. But what outed me most as a European is probably the fact that the first thing I did was to look for where the connection to the normal (non-museal) railway network is. There is none and I don't even know if the closest railway line carries substantial passenger traffic? I really do hope the railroad system in the US (and generally in the Americas) gets to see a renaissance. It was such a powerful network and I think it'd still have the potential to become one again. Fingers crossed for the EBT's route expansion. Love the context thinking, embedding the operations sustainably into their surroundings and communities around. That's an important factor, no matter where in the world you are. The more you show willingness to contribute to your surroundings, the better the local support gets. Catering only to foamers who come and leave by car, eat their own lunch packs (and often even won't take a ride, just photos from the outside while whining about train staff wearing proper PPE), thus not leaving any money at all, won't get you anywhere - not that nobody tried 😅 Number 16 might have the most dissonant, unpleasant chime I've ever heard on your channel, though 😄 Lovely update on your original EBT videos, thanks!
@Hyce77725 күн бұрын
Ahh my friend, you did out yourself as European. lol! None of the best tourist railroads out here really have any connectivity to a network. EBT is 3' gauge - if they had made it to Mt. Union, where the Pennsy had historically connected - they'd still be not on the network, and they'd have run out of 3' gauge! Haha. It's an odd place out here. All car based... it's different. :D
@QuorkQTar25 күн бұрын
@@Hyce777 I'm aware of the gauge 😄 I didn't mean "connected" as in "through services" or something, but "connected" as in "reachable by passenger rail". I'd love to visit the country at some point, but I don't even know how I'd get around. I don't even have a car license, I don't drive anything below 84 tons 😆 Over here, I've never needed it 🤷♂️
