Oden: I was a member of whitebeards crew as a commander, rolled with the pirate king, ruled a country and gave kaido that scar and slayed a dragon with a sword that can literally kill almost anyone that uses it. Everyone: talks about the swords he used, the yonko bounties, and the rocks Pirates. Furion Max Actually, Oden is just a side character; a stepping stone for Luffy and his alliance crew to fight in Wano. He isn’t as strong as you thought he was. His only power is Haki and sword. I’m more interested in Captain Rocks. His name has D in it and he was so powerful to lead such a notorious crew. I wondered how he was killed and lost to Roger. Rocks and Roger were like Blackbeard and Luffy. So I’m curious is Luffy gonna need help bringing down BB in the future?

You know it's kinda funny that Shanks has a bounty that high or one at all. I know he's one of the four Emperors (very notable pirates) and one of the strongest characters in the series. But, he seems so respected by even the highest of the Marines (Sengoku and the Grosei) and even Sakazuki seems to fear him a little. Makes you wonder why they still want to go after him?

Well, it's the same reason you put a bounty on anyone... you want some else to go after them for you. Offer enough and maybe a group powerful enough will get together do it, or someone close will defect for the cash. The marines really don't want to engage any of the Emperors directly, because that way all their power is in reserve and a full threat to all the Emperors. To get tied down into a confict with one of them (like Marineford) means that that threat is gone and there's a real concern about what the other's might do then. In the case of the Paramount war, Kaido sought to take advantage of the situation, but Shanks stopped him.

I've been a big fan of One Piece for a few years now, but haven't paid any attention to the fan community until very recently. I'm kind of taken by surprise that this chapter is seen as such a big deal. I mean on the one hand, the reveal of who was in the Rocks Pirates is huge, but I'd already guessed most of those names, so it's more just confirmation. The much huger thing is the name of the captain, specifically that middle initial, and the history of the Garp/Roger alliance that ended him. THAT'S what got me pumped. I genuinely didn't realise that One Piece fandom considers bounties so important. I've never paid much attention to them. I always thought they were just a bit of trivia rather than something that tells you anything meaningful about a character. I guess I really misjudged the general attitude to them, going by the reaction everyone has had to this information.

I'll post this theory for how Wano's going to go here so I can look back later when i'm proven wrong and laugh at it. Last week I figured it was no coincidence that Coby was the one being sent after Hancock, as they're Luffy's 2 biggest fans and that's obvious comic relief. But more than that, I suspect that Coby will hear from Drake that Luffy is going to fight Kaido and Big Mom, and Hancock will hear this from him, and rather than fight they'll both decide to head for Wano and maybe even join forces temporarily. My thought at the time had been wouldn't it be cool to see Coby + Luffy actually team up in the final fight of Wano... and then this new chapter came out talking about how Roger and Garp teamed up to fight those same pirates. Since fans for the longest time have beaten themselves over the heads saying Coby will be Luffy's Garp, and Coby was trained by Garp during timeskip (and Luffy obvious Garp's grandson and future Pirate King) I think the perfect parallel would be to have those 2 team up to finish off these 2 Yonko. Obviously then the Marines would cover up Luffy's involvement if possible, and Coby would be a Marine Hero for the new generation.

9:20 I think it makes a lot of sense for Big Mom to have a relatively low bounty. She isn't really a threat to the world government like Kaito or Shanks is. She has no real vendetta against the world government and no dangerous ambition. She mostly just stays in her own little world and does her own thing. As an anime watcher who just got to this point successfully avoiding spoilers, I feel kinda compelled to post some of my own theories here before the anime gets up to the apparently huge reveals going on by the 1000th chapter since I don't know what those are yet either~ 1. There are far too many parallels between Xebec and Blackbeard to be dismissed, from the name to their motives, and even down to what seems like their outfits of choice. Part of me almost wonders if Teach may be somehow directly related to Xebec, or at the very least another member of the Rocks. It would be a good explanation for how he got into Whitebeard's good graces so easily 2. God Valley, a mysterious disappearing island that likely ties into the true history of the world, being covered up by the World Government? It just has to be the original name of the island we know as Raftel. A mysterious island that disappeared from history, or at least as far as the world knows. But perhaps the Road Poneglyphs actually show the way to this mysterious island that holds all of the secrets. This could be a pretty strong motive for Kaido and Big Mom to be collecting the glyphs to find that old battleground. I always did get the feeling that they were too old to care about Gold Roger's treasure, but with the reveal that Roger defeated at least their captain there years prior is...intriguing. 3. I feel like Fujitora HAS to be after Mihawk atm, right? Mihawk is undoubtedly the most powerful of the Former Warlords, and throwing a swordsman like Fujitora at him does make some sense. And an Admiral like him is probably the only way to even hope to put any kind of actual pressure on Mihawk. Though that does make me wonder about our lively little ghost girl and how she's going to get wrapped up in all this mess~ Although I suppose him going to Amazon Lily to take on Hancock is also possible...but idk, that whole sea king thing to me just seems off. But maybe that's just reading too much into it. She also seems like she would be the least threatening warlord to worry about, other than Buggy. If you're going to send an Admiral out, I don't think she'd be the main target. 4. On the note of the Warlords themselves.... I have to admit this is much less a theory and more just a vague idea or something that could be fun in concept. What if the Former Warlords just, like...got together? Got together and just decided to form their own organization strong enough to hold its own with the other two great powers, simply called...the Warlords of the Sea, merely to spite their dismissal as official government-supported pirates~ And heck, you could potentially even throw in other former Warlords like Crocodile into the mix if motives lined up well enough. 5. Now a large part of me wonders what Dr. Kureha knows of the Rocks Pirates, as she seems like she's in that generation. No wonder she found it interesting that Chopper fell in with another with the D. name.

I think another reason as to why Shanks' bounty is lower than "The Big Three" (or...well at least Kaido and Big Mom) is simply because of their more ruthless nature, much like how Kid's bounty was higher than Luffy's when entering Sabody. Oh and they probably got a whole lot more notoriety due to once being part of the Rocks Pirates. Love your content and keep up the good work!

I think it's crazy that Mihawk basically says shanks isn't worth dueling after he lost his sword arm, but he was declared a yonko well after he lost that arm. If anything this makes shanks even more hyped in my mind.

What I really madly respect about GODA is his ability to keep his story fresh and hype even after fucking decades. So many long running series either run out of fume at one point or hit a steep declinig point. Toriyama needed like a 10 year break from Dragonball, today he is writing again, but you can tell he is past his prime. Naruto destroyed 10 years of build up with its final arc and is now doomed with a cashgrab copycat sequel. Kubo was an amaizing artist, but he told the same story over and over again. HxH and Berserk are cursed with hiatuses. And here comes GODA throwing in the most insane chapter like 20 years in. One Piece had it's ups and downs, but I never felt like it lost its spirit or all of its fume. I have zero doubts that GODA will finish OP and it will be legendary.

Regarding shanks bounty being lower than kaido and Big Moms, someone on reddit brought this potential idea up and it makes sense. Kaido and Big Mom seem to be way more active and Violent people who constantly cause havoc, so because of that they're more of a threat, while Shanks seems more laid back in a sense and less violent in comparison. It's like when we first got introduced to the Supernova's. Kidds bounty was higher than luffys because he's way more violent in comparison. Making him seem more like a threat

This chapter bringing up Shanks again as well as the various connections with Rocks, has me thinking about how Luffy and Shanks' dynamic is similar to Tama and Ace's. Straw hats are a symbol of the connection between the two pairs. Luffy was given the straw hat by Shanks, Tama taught Ace how to make straw hats. Luffy wanted to join Shanks' crew, Tama wanted to join Ace's. Both Luffy and Tama have a strong ability to make new allies. As well as smaller details like both being captured by a weak foe early on and both being fed by restaurant owners.

Here's my idea about God Valley. It's where the Celestial Dragons housed their "National Treasure" originally. Like it states in the chapter Rocks was written out of history because he had a habit of turning over stones people wanted to stay secret. It's possible he learned about what the national treasure it whether it be an ancient weapon or something else entirely. Once Rocks found that out he and the Rocks pirates set off to go steal it and that's when the battle of God Valley began. It would make more sense as to why Roger was so feared as well, because he most likely found out about the national treasure as well when he arrived to the island, so when the marines couldn't capture him and the surviving Rocks pirates they destroyed the island, wiped it out of history, and moved the National Treasure to Mariejose

In terms of One piece length that could be ,and most likely is quite a ways off, but it's coming closer and closer whether we want it to or not. That's why I think Odens flashback arc was so important, because not only did it give us more info about the arc, but it told us that the end is near. Its bitter sweet, but I really think that wano is going to be the beginning of the end

Some food for thought Garp and Rogers team up could be foreshadowing to another pirate & marine team up. I think Luffy and Smoker at Wano. Also the reason for team up to protect royalty & slaves from Rox pirates. Rox pirates - The reforming of it with Big Mom & Kaido. Royalty celestial dragons - kozuki clan, slaves of dragons - the people of Wano they are basically treated as slaves. What is everyone’s thoughts. Yes I know it might be to obvious. Just think the new hero of the navy being Smoker.

About the bounties. I keep saying that most people think bounty = individual power. However bounty is more about threat against the goverment. And not only as individual, but as a person who motivates a crew. Like Nico Robins brutally high bounty only because she is the lone survivor of Ohara and able to read the "forbidden language" of the phoneglyph... Rogers bounty was absurd because he knew about one piece, which could be related to direct or indirectly to the WG secrets. Shanks is powerful, seems he knows a lot of secret, but he keeps balance too. A superstrong individual, with a strong crew. But seems he is the yonko equivalent of the Warlords: keep balance. So his bounty is high, because he is not under goverment control (at all) but not the highest because he is more or less an ally. Kaido is individually strong, but stupid too. It was mentioned that he was captured several times, but always escaped. But his crew is just pure chaos. Warmongers everywhere. Seems Kaidos crew is only a half step of away from revolutionaries, but theyre targeting anyone who they want to. BigMoM is the same. Her crew is organised and strong. A nationlike threat. Blackbeards bounty is relatively low... And seems he knows about one of Vegapunks secret (the devilfruit encyclopedia XD ) and his subordinates are lvl6 Impel Down prisoners. My guess is that Blackbeard became a strong opponent, with an unstoppable nationlike base, but seems he doesnt do to much of a ruckus apart from enjoying his life as a hedonist. He is still plotting something, but he only takes his action now...

I mean yeah the Rocks pirates reveal is great and getting notes on what the marines are up to is fun but I really don't get the hype for bounties. They just be numbers, numbers that don't even correlate directly to strength, but rather threat level. When numbers get that big it really feels like it loses most of its meaning.
