I’m a christian who is both trans and queer. And as someone who struggled a lot when I was first finding myself out over whether I could be both Christian and lgbt, it’s extremely uncomfortable and hurtful to hear people say stuff like “gay is a sin”. I am in the same boat and the thing is that a lot of Christianity is based off of a book written during a time where sexism homophobia transphobia and everything else under the sun were all having a party. That’s not a reflection of God, that’s just a reflection of the time period. Christians have the responsibility to make that differentiation between gods word and beliefs of the time period. Gods word is to love others no matter who they are and what they have done. Also Jesus has the vibes of an ally. Not a Christian, but go to a Christian school. Maybe it's different in Canada, but the majority of staff are super supportive and no ones outwardly homophobic/transphobic. Near the start of our year our chaplain and principal went to a workshop for including trans students. There are so many GOOD LOVING. I was actually recently at a very Christian place and it was the gayest environment I've ever been in. Seriously, I felt the same sense of safety I did at pride, there were trans and non-binary people and gay couples being affectionate in public. We studied the image of the rainbow as the connection between God and us in the bible. Actually, before travelling there, I had been kind of scared that it would be the opposite, but staying at a church with a rainbow flag in front of it on the way there assured me a lot.

There’s so much diversity in Christians. I'm a gay teen and I have very supportive parents and I'm happy about that. One day I'm talking about LGBT politics with my dad and how some people are jerks about it. My dad then told me about this one time at work he was talking to this guy he works with and he says raising a kid and stuff like makes you a real man and that "the gays" never get to experience that and they're not real men. My dad then completely shuts him down by telling him about a friend of his that is also gay and how him and his husband raised a successful child and got him through college and he's a successful functioning member of society. Yeah I found out my Christian friend was actually in a cult where he had to swear to never own a phone, he got homeschooled in 7th grade and then came back because of sex ed and evolution lessons at school, I was the one who taught him that kissing doesn't make babies.
