What a fun little slice of an enormous trail. The Maah Daah Hey Trail is one of the best bikepacking routes in the USA and from what I rode it must be an awesome experience.
The scenery was ever-changing and beyond interesting. All kinds of things to keep your mind active and thinking about the millions of years of creative destruction that formed this area.

Great seeing the Shred nearing completion, I would add to your comments about sharing as much of who you are in the video, my boys and I met you at patreon ride in FL at Santos, you were super nice and took time to talk to everyone. At one point I was off from the group ride and my boys told me about how you stopped to check on them as they waited for me to catch up, it made an impression on them and me. Enjoying watching your adventure, hope to "see you on the trail" again some day.

I have a lot of family up there. I toured the whole state in one week in August. It was great. It’s such a forgotten place. It’s all flat and green near Fargo, but looks like Utah out where BKXC was. Everything in between is wide-open prairie. I actually went to Medora and hiked some of the trails where he was. I wish I had known there were mountain bike trails. :)

This brings back memories! Did this trail with a friend in 2001. It was absolutely miserable in the peak of summer. Our guide was a 12 year old who did not seem too bothered by the heat and was obviously bored having to wait for us constantly. We also had two flats during the ride and after the ride we were greeted by a massive thunderstorm that flooded our tent. We stayed in the car till dawn and then headed back home. We did pick up an angry carnie on the side of the road who had enough of the circus. Anyone who is reading this, do this trail in the fall and check the weather. I would love to go back someday, under better circumstances it’s worth it.

Yeah. I don't know the laws in the US, but the most interesting trails here in Germany are the ones made my bikers, more or less illegally. There are regions here without any legal trails even though we have a lot of nice little mountains with forests all over. There is so much arguing between bikers and the forestkeepers and mostly they cannot decide on a compromise. So we keep going on our illegal trails and hope to not get caught and pay 250 € for riding them.

Mountainbiking itself ain´t a cheap sport. Just think how much money you spend for what you love :) Bike 3-10 grant, parts, equipment, and so on... In fact it can be as expensive and premium as Golf - I admit: The cool thing about mountain biking is that the entry price for the sport is much lower so it can literally be a sport for everyone.

@@sprousaTM well said. but it's getting there. In my state NRW, the cities krefeld, solingen, wuppertal and so got things going. I have just founded a group which has grown to 100 members in like a week and I´ve got offers from local sports clubs who are interested in supporting my idea of official trails... the bureaucracy, the bureaucracy but I won´t stop pushing... I suppose the guys over in the US are going through kinda the same thing. The difference between europeans and americans (we are talking about the fact that our mates from over the sea are just way further in developing a mountain bike scene and the public acceptance/understanding for the sport itself eh) apart from the obvious ones like ages of the countries and the way they became to actual countries, traditions and so on: the bicycle has its roots in England and Europe was always more racing and cross country (Querfeldein) oriented. Mountain biking as we know it today is coming from California, USA. Racing bikes is a fight mostly against yourself whereas mountain biking is a pretty social thing. (I´m talking about a leisure time / non club membership situation) - So traditionally we are having a bit of a harder time, finding together, fighting for the same thing. - Sure theres more things to factor in... but it is what it is. And it can only get better if we are ready to get engaged and hands on when its about rising things onto the next lvl here in Germany-
