At first glance, I agree he’s a HOF. But it’s not his bigotry that gets him kicked out-it’s not in my opinion enough to get him rejected (he does have a history of insulting diverse players). It’s his support to Lynch reporters. That’s unacceptable. No vote

At least with the steroid scandal you can argue an on-field reason for keeping someone out, regardless of if you agree with it. He had a reputation for being an assholes before the whole politics thing. It is not solely his political beliefs that kept him from the hall. I think he should be in the hall and I myself am what I would consider conservative. But I don't think this is a fair thing to say just because he's conservative he isn't in the hall. He should definitely be in, although this video makes it seem like he isn't in just because of his beliefs which isn't the whole story. Like it or not some sports writers won't look past his abrasive nature toward journalists, no matter how great he is.

I’m a liberal and a Yankee fan, squarely in the demo that hates Schilling. While not an obvious HOFer, he’s on the border and probably deserves it by modern standards, especially given his post-season record. The Hall is filled with surly assholes on both sides of the political aisle who were rude to the media. He’s no exception. I think you’re right that it’s his personality over his politics, but for me the primary reason is that his stats are borderline. He’s on that ill-defined edge right between Mussina (HOF) and Pettite (not HOF). If it was more obvious stat-wise, the pressure would be on the writers to vote him in, even if they hate his guts. They’d have no excuse not to.

He was abrasive towards those writers for a reason. He doesn't like the way they conduct business...or their bias aimed at or against certain players. He also bilked taxpayers out of millions with his failed video game company in between rants about welfare queens and such. Not saying that should disqualify him, but it’s just another reason Schilling is a joke. I personally think he’s an HOFer and I loved watching him, but c’mon, he isn’t a first ballot slam-dunk case either. He’ll get in eventually and that seems fair. But if he pitched in the 60s (for example) he likely wouldn’t have gotten in at all because his career totals in traditional stat categories aren’t eye-popping. Modern stats like JAWS show that he does deserve it (as well as his immortal postseason record), but I remember a time when pitchers needed 300 wins or they didn’t get in, and that wasn’t so long ago. I know this one is more controversial because he directly broke the rules of the game during his career, but the man with the most hits of all time should absolutely not be denied entry into the Hall. If you want to put an asterisk on his plaque or something, that's fine, but don't deny great players entry because they're not nice people. If I had a vote, I'm not voting him not because of character issues, but because he wants nothing to do with journalists anymore. I'd wish for the best for him getting to Cooperstown via VC.

My guy, I love your content. But Schilling being conservative isn't the reason he's not in the hall. If being a conservative was the issue, most guys wouldn't be in the hall - baseball has always had a larger conservative crowd lol. Mariano Rivera supported Donal Trump openly too but got selected unanimously into the hall - why would that happen if it was politics? Schilling being conservative has nothing to do with it. Also, when someone posts a picture of Hitler doing Nazi sign and cites only Muslims, he's clearly comparing Nazis to all Muslims (using a stat which idk is even legitimate). For context, Nazi party went on to win the election with the majority of the country supporting Nazism eventually. To me he seemed to be implying all Muslims will eventually do the same and move to extremism, like that's just who we are. I think you're giving him too much credit with that take and not pointing out the obvious issues with it. He's yet to come out and acknowledge that too btw. With all that said, should be be in the hall of fame? The problem with inducting Schilling into the hall of fame is that if any player in the future says similar to worse things, you need to elect them too. So question is where do you draw the line? I think many of the voters don't wanna set that precedent. I don't blame them.

Go look at Jon Lester's career. Year to year he was better than Schilling in consistency. I don't think any of the three belong in the HOF. Compare him to Maddox, Glavine and Smoltz. Two had over 300 wins and one had 200 wins and 200 saves. These pitchers were his contemporaries and that had way more wins and consistency. 216 wins is just not that great.

"The Hall of Fame should be based off numbers alone." Except it's not. According to the official Hall of Fame election requirements, "Voting shall be based upon the player’s record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played." So here's a small sampling of what Schilling has said (or posted on social media): A) compared Muslims to Nazis B) advocated the lynching of journalists C) trashed the LBGTQ movement D) implied the Clintons were behind the killing of Jeffrey Epstein E) promoted white supremacists F) openly still says that the 2020 election was stolen, just like his buddy Trump. He's got the numbers, to be sure, but as far as character goes, he's a big fat ZERO. Baseball doesn't need to honor someone like that.

Where conservatives fail, is in grabbing at the hearts and minds of the middle. They make no attempt and appear to be very easily enraged and aggressive. They more concerned with controlling women's rights than gun owners rights. They never were a silent majority. They are a very loud minority that is more embarrassing and unpopular than you think. Sorry if he speaks to you and you think he is getting a bad deal. Police brutality and women's right, are not issues to you. They are to many Americans who are minorities or women to have your little white mens club here.. Conservatives are doing everything possible to restrict voting and censor books in school, because they know how unpopular their ideas are. They have no ideas. Teaching the true history of our willingness to treat humans like animals is so embarrassing to conservatives that they want to hide it. We can't learn from mistakes if we don't learn. Restricting voting? Almost all of conservatives wanted a full scale audit of the 2020 election and majority of conservatives support having an ID to vote, which you need to drive a car or even to get on a flight. I do not view that as restricting. For the most part the way we teach American history in school is really bad and I blame both sides. There are so many things that the US government had done and is trying to cover up that it doesn't surprise me that we are so bad at it. As for censoring books for little children in public schools, well that's probably for the best. By contrast, some of the stuff that LeBron has said is "outlandish nonsense" to conservative viewers/voters, but since so small a percentage of media members are card-carrying conservatives, the narrative is that Schilling's takes are much more derogatory and inappropriate than LeBron's. Not my take per se, just playing devil's advocate and trying to look at things from the other side. Example: LeBron's complicity in the NBA's bowing to China, despite China holding millions of Uighurs in concentration camps. Yet, at the same time, LeBron has to a large extent been a driving force behind the NBA having players wear "Hands up don't shoot" or "End racism" on their jerseys. That would be fine, if he didn't basically ignore his principles when money was at stake in the Chinese market. Like, Chinese muslims are themselves the victims of racism, and by all account on a mortality scale greater than Black Americans, but where is LeBron's voice on the matter? The word "legend" applies to players like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays, Jackie Robinson, Cal Ripken Jr., Ty Cobb, Hank Aaron, Roger Maris, and even Shoeless Joe Jackson and Pete Rose. There are plenty of players in the HoF, but the true legends are the ones who, decades later, you mention the name and people instantly know who you're talking about and what milestone they achieved or what they're most infamous for. Curt Schilling didn't change baseball forever the way Ruth or Robinson did, or owns the unreachable plateau that Williams, DiMaggio, Gehrig and Ripken stand on, or was as complete and even ruthless a competitor as Cobb, Robinson, Mays or Rose. Next to the real legends of the game, Curt Schilling doesn't even compare.

I would beg to differ Schilling was 4-0 out of 5 elimination games in the post season with Schillings teams wining all 5. Of course, the onetime Schilling did not get the win was the 2001 world series in Game 7. The 4 he won 1-2 win over Matt Moris and the Cardinals Game 5 in 2001 division series where Curt pitched a complete game. Bloody Sock game, Game 6 against the Yankees in 2004 ALCS. And the 147 pitch compete game shutout over the terrifying 1993 Blue Jays in game 5 of the 1993 world series.......wait why is he not in the Hall of Fame again? Elimination victories over some of the best teams to ever play the game not some push overs. 1993 Blue Jays repeating world champs, 2001 Yankees 3-time defending world Champs, 2004 Yankees defending ALCS champs.......... system is broken. I forgot the last one I think it was NLCS Which would be over the Alanta Braves in 1993 but in those five starts Curt pitched at least 7 innings in all of them never giving up more than 2 runs 39.1 innings pitched. Schilling was responsible for helping the Dbacks win their first World Championship. Was also part of the first pitcher duo to have 300 or more strikeouts in a season (2002). Curt right now stands with the best Strike to Walk ratio out of any pitcher since the Live Ball Era began (1900 and on). Red Sox bloody sock game I think changed baseball forever and the 2001 world series for sure. Curt Schilling also stands at the top of post season pitching 11-2 record with an Era of 2.23 out of 19 games pitched. To put that into contrast Randy Johnson has also pitched 19 post season games, numbers are not even close to Schillings. NLCS MVP (1993) Despite getting two no decisions in those games because lead was blown by closer. 2001 World Series MVP (2001) 6 time All Star. 3 Time World series Champ. Contributing member of 4 world series teams serving as an ACE on 3 of them and a winning pitcher on the 4th. Again, you think he did not change baseball?

It's a shame that the media puts out a narrative that paints a human being into a corner that is way over the top untrue - and people buy it. I mean what are we talking here, He backed Bush, Trump and said Obama was the worst president ever, that's hate speech? We're keeping him out of the Hal for that and an off the cuff remark about writers? Hate? Really? Because (for those who watch baseball) Curt Shilling makes Mike Mussina look like some middle relief pitcher. He went right after you while pitching in the strike zone, while striking guys out like there was no tomorrow. Would have been good for baseball putting those 2 2004 heroes in the Hall together, leave it to a sophisticated liberal to piss all over a parade.

Defrauding the state of Rhode Island isn’t a criminal act? Also, you can’t say that the shit things a person has done off the field shouldn’t be part of how we decided HOF candidacy and then turn around and list of the good things he’s done for reason he should be inducted. Beating cancer isn’t something that gets you into the HOF.

Defraud would suggest that he didn't use the funds for the venture at all. That's not even remotely true. He didn't defraud anyone, the venture (which was his passion project that he spent all his own personal saving on by the way) simply failed and he defaulted on a loan. He got it all taken from him as a result. He's guilty of mismanagement, not fraud. What the hell is wrong with you people? Stop getting all your news from lying main stream media.

Considering some of the ridiculous ballots submitted by HOF voters its far past time to strip the Baseball writers Assoc. of its voting rights for the HOF. HOF entry should be based on performance only, numbers as well as performance when it counted the most. Curt Schilling is a worthy HOF player. Admittedly there were a couple better pitchers in his era also HOF worthy, you cannot deny Schillings ability in the clutch when it mattered most.

Very thoughtful presentation. Unless there is evidence he cheated by using PEDs his numbers are indisputable. I think of him differently from Pete Rose. After the black Sox scandal in the 1919 World Series, baseball has considered the no gambling on baseball rule so important that it’s posted in every MLB clubhouse. Rose violated that rule and lied about it for many years.

PBGellie There’s not really another side to it but it just seems like the person left out important details such as how long he’s been on the ballot, how he was never considered the best pitcher in the league in any given year, how close he is to being voted in, where he ranks compared to other Hall of Famers and deliberately emphasized points in his favor. He mentions how Schilling didn’t get in because of his Conservative views and how it didn’t become a problem until 2015. Guess what? Schilling was on the ballot before 2015 and still didn’t get in. I guess you can say the other side is that he didn’t get in (yet) because he was never a slam dunk Hall of Famer to begin with. Enough with this victim mentality. Not everyone in the HOF gets in right away.

Sorry dude but no. The idea of completely ignoring character when choosing people for the hall of fame is dangerously stupid. Curt Schilling isn’t mistreated. He’s properly treated. He’s treated the way he has treated others for many years, decades. He’s not the slam dunk Hall of Farmer people make him out to be. Before WAR, wins mattered. Schilling got to 216. It’s more than some people in the Hall of Fame. It’s less than a lot of people not in the Hall of Fame. Bad things didn’t visit Schilling. Schilling sought out bad things by being a bad person. It wasn’t just once. It wasn’t overnight. The guy spent his entire career as an entitled, out of touch, arrogant jerk. Why else do you think he moved around so much? Curt Schilling made his bed: designed the bedroom, picked out the bed frame, box springs, mattress; set the sleep number. I’m so sick of this culture where there’s no such thing as maturity, professionalism, accountability.
