Let me add to this, because Chris is young, I don't think he realizes this. Here's the thing. I think Alicia's breakdown at the restaurant WAS a valid cry. That was the point. The waitress was, rightly so, treating Alicia just as Alicia had treated her. When she cried from the stress of waiting tables AND being treated like an indentured servant, she was meant to reflect on how she treated people. I don't know whether it was successful (it seemed to be), but the goal was to show her how her words, her actions, & her attitude can seriously affect other people. Responsibility, I'm sure, was part of it. But this specific exercise was mainly designed to imbue Alicia with a sense of empathy for the staff she hasn't treated well.
@KnightofFunnyJunk4 ай бұрын
In fairness to Alicia, a lot of Helicopter Parents are in favor of Homeschooling because without an actual teacher present it makes it easier for the parents to do all the work for the child to create the illusion that the child prefers this over a structured environment only seen in public schools. Its also a bad symptom when a lot of nepotism happens in the work place where theyre given jobs exclusively for them that requires them to do a whole lot of public appearances and middle management or theyre given jobs they clearly are not qualified for This is what theyre setting Alicia up for. You know how when you write the answer down on a test but you didnt show your work and you cant show your work so you're given an automatic 0? This is what is in store for Alicia if she gets any job outside of Beauty Pagent.

I'm all for feminism but my issue so far from first impressions of that family is that it kinda defeats the point if they're telling their daughter they're not allowed to wear makeup and sparkly nail polish. The whole idea of feminism is to empower women and allow them to wear and look how they want. You defeat the whole point if you tell your daughter she isn't allowed to wear feminine stuff because... old-school feminism wasn't all-inclusive, which is where most boomers are coming from when they speak of feminism. you can see this in the boring movie "Ice Princess" where she has a feminist mom, but it's not a "support all women" and moreso "supporting the idea of what women should be, opposite of what the patriarchy wants from us" type of feminism. like, it's better than plain misogyny, but it's still judgmental and encourages some toxic mindsets too. I will say that that mom wasn't off base sometimes and was willing to listen/improve, though. she had some real points, even if the daughter and father were presumably hamming it up for the cameras.

i was a studio photographer for 4 years and 130 is average for a photoshoot to be honest, it might not have been the sheet alone that shes upset about here that actually was a super messed up thing to do. our sheets were 18 dollars each just under 20 dollars after tax but the cheapest package we had was 150 dollars it came with every image we took on a cd and usually 5 prints as well. Our studio didnt have a sitting fee but some do they will charge you just for the time they had to use its usually like 15 dollars. Not including the pagent dress, makeup and hair, if that was an important photo she probably got it done right after winning which she cant just go back and do again, that was an important memory for her. I'm really hoping in whatever 130 package they got they have a digital backup somewhere, and can go to any cvs walgreens or walmart to reprint it. Kinda hysterical how every single episode of this show has the same conflict of “ur not following the rules!!!” “well I don’t WANT to follow the rules!!” Like you’d think that a reality tv show wouldn’t have EVERY family take such issue with the fundamental premise of the show they agreed to go on, but I guess the producers thought that was the main draw.
@chrishoward7645 Жыл бұрын
Watch the aussie version. They cover more of the social experiment side of it. The wives when it gets their turn to do things their way make a list of rules (i thin 4 total) that are enforced. And get to choose 1 golden rule that can not be broken. The american version just seems to pander to the drama more than anything.

That's one thing I've heard from families on the show is that they wanted DRAMA, not any type of middle ground and if you wanted to drop out mid production, they'd charge the family at least $100K for dropping out and would instigate stuff before filming

The third, who usually has quite a bit of difference from the first two, is indoctrinated (with little success) and scolded continuously by both parents and siblings, making anyone who enters with a more similar mindset an ally.

I think Alicia would have had a better life if she was taught to have pride in work instead of having everything done for her. Because she was not able to accomplish much on her own, except being a pageant dress up barbie doll, she reverted to becoming a sex object to survive. Girls who do not learn basic skills cannot adapt to a "normal" life. What man wants to marry someone who will not help around the house, cannot cook dinner once in a while, or will not even do her own work to get a degree in college or a trade school? I am sad to say that her parents did not do her any favors, not that they will admit it.

This really does show how some in society want to pull women in 15 different directions ideologically rather than treat them as self determinant human beings with autonomy. I know the producers did a lot of this but THAT is still telling. Makeup is makeup.
