I loved it on my xbox and even ps5, the I switched to a high end computer and it felt like a different game. At high fps combat was actually smooth and not clunky as fuck at 30 fps. I was honestly shocked.

I’m sure this is a hot take but the Last of us 1 has always been so overrated to me. I liked it and the story was good but it was never this “masterpiece” that people rave about to me . I’ve beaten it multiple times and always thought “yeah this was pretty good but not great or anything”. I love story games and There’s plenty of stories in games that had me way more invested fs. To me it’s like a 7 or 7.5 outta 10 at best.

I agree! It was fantastic at the time! Same thing with goldeneye. Playing it with an emulator and a mouse injector is still fun. There were not many similar games when they realeased, thats why they set the standards higher in their genre and many games copied the formula and improved it with time.

Oh God, how I miss this kind of content on KZbin - it's not about the topic, but the form. You're not harsh on the titles, you know what they did well, you understand the context, and you know why they were groundbreaking, but you simply think people rate them too highly. And that's great - it's really enjoyable to listen to, even if I have a different opinion, like with 007 GoldenEye. But with GTA IV, that's a bullseye for me. I also found the game incredibly unpleasant to play. I never finished it. The driving mechanics just killed it for me.

If you ask me, most Sony's games are just glorified movies. From my perspective, The Last of Us had a bad influence on gaming. If it was just by itself it would be fine, but it influenced other developers to make their own similar slow paced third person over the shoulder "cinematic experiences" where the gameplay isn't even the point. Just make a damn movie. They are basically the opposite of the bloated open world games, yet just as bad.

Inside is beloved primarily for its visual storytelling and art direction. It’s kind of like Little Nightmares in that sense. The interpretive story it’s telling is the substance and why so many people love it. It’s very unique and interesting to watch unfold to the point where I feel it’s less of a traditional game and more akin to an art piece.

All the weight and feel they had in gta4 is a big reason why I love it. The car and ballistics had such believable impact. It made everything feel super grounded in comparison to the sticks of butter you drive in gta5.

Nahhh what? This is coming from a guy who thought it was revolutionary back in the day, but those cars have some weird physics. The denting on the cars was over the top, and in a game where a ton of the time you spend is driving, they sure made driving feel like I had to stop a concrete block and turn every single minute of gameplay. I also HATED how the bikes felt, I was falling off every time I hit the smallest bump. Realistic? Maybe. Fun? No. The lost and damned tried to fix the bike physics but didn't save em. Ballad of gay tony finally added some fun vehicles and activities, but then GTAV blew the fun factor out of the water.

Finally someone else says it, everyone loves it because of the memories they had with it, and I can say that I was there in 1997, it was fantastic but so many other games have surpassed it in experience. Despite enjoying multiple games that you mentioned, I tend to concur with most of your opinions here. All except Horizon. I think that game is actually pretty unique, and deserves all the praise. But I find your other takes to be pretty realistic. There seems to be a veneer over people's eyes that blow a lot of games out of proportion. For example, I love Nier Replicant/Gestalt because of the story, but is it really a "masterpiece" like some think it is? I'm a huge Final Fantasy VII fan, but I don't claim that it is an objective masterpiece. I just love it for my own personal reasons. Same with Star Wars. Anyway, great vid man. Keep it up.

Finally! The type of video I like! Will there be a part 2? Genuine question. For me some games like DQXI and FFVII are overrated. FF7, like Goldeneye 007, is one of the most important games of all time. I don't think it's one of the best. Game affecting translation errors, poor materia description and slow map movement caused me to rate FFVII an 8/10 on release date. But nowadays it's just a 7 and not really masterpiece material. The soundtrack is awesome though. Dragon Quest XI doesn't have that good of a story. Jade's character arc is just "Please, let me just survive this lust monster" and the third act retconned what happened in act 2. Gameplay is alright, albeit way too easy on the default difficulty and it's getting more difficult from Act 2 onwards. They are still good games, just overrated. I would recommend some of the older titles over the newer ones. Final Fantasy VI and IV, Dragon Quest V, III, IV, VIII etc....

OOOOH Boy I can commentate on this! The point is we are not argue one to one but it's fun to have a civil discussion. 1 - Honestly? I think it's mixed. I do think gameplay wise it's a great extension of the original. But my biggest problem is that it doesn't know when to stop. It just keeps going and going and it could've easily been split to two games. It's so rare for me to play a game and wanting it to end already. 2 - Agreed. I tried playing this game so many times and I never dug the controls and structure. If I wanna play a game like it, there is always TimeSplitters 2 and 3. 3 - Glad at least you didn't mention Origins, which I think was one of the best in the series. The other two suffer from bloat-itis. 4 - It's the only GTA game I ever finished BECAUSE the story is the only one I ever connected to. V might play better but I just never enjoyed the narrative because everyone is just deplorable. But yeah, the driving takes a LONG time to get used to. But it does have ROMAAAAAN. 5 - OH MY GOD THANK YOU. I never got the hype around Inside. Yes the shocking last portion is a creepy af twist, but it didn't stick with me like some other games. It's still very good, but to me it's more a 7-8 as opposed to a 10. 6 - My hot take is that I like Ragnarok more than 2018. I thought the combat was better, the story is better paced, and the locations were more unique. And I am glad the original GOW series is getting some love because I feel it's most forgotten. 7 - The original game does suffer from some copy-paste level design, but at least the gunplay carries it hard. I do think the first two missions and the final one are the best, but the rest, especially the Library, aren't up to snuff. 8 - I admire the swinging mechanic in this game, but everything else is basic and run of the mill. I still remember playing the final boss with Doc Ock and having to crawl on tight spaces and constantly being dropped to water is NOT fun. 9 - No opinion really, never played them much. 10 - Cavia as a developer try their best, but they always have some jank. Sadly this is another one. 11 - No experience with this one either. 12 - The more time that passes, I am not as big into Horizon. While I do the sequel improves on almost everything, I do admire the world building and lore. In fact I actually liked Aloy better in ZD over FW because she came off very standoffish to her allies who just want to help her. I felt the emotional core of the original is better but yeah, it went down for me over the years. 13 - Nostalgia be damned, 64 is fine. But that's just it. Fine. There are better MK other there. 14 - Still need to play this lol 15 - Yeah I am kinda done with those too, as much as I respect them.

I've felt there's been too many "movie" games that try too hard to be realistic and appeal to mainstream audiences ever since the ps3 era. Also, there's too many call of dutys, assassin's creed games, open world games, souls-likes, and low-effort uninspired indie farming games, lol. Nothing against any of those genres, I actually enjoy all of those things from time to time, but I wish there was more variety and creative experimentation in the industry.

For me, the most overrated game is Red Dead Redemption 2. I’m not saying it’s a bad game at all. In fact, it’s pretty darn good, but its mediocre gameplay hurt it for me. At best, it’s functional, and at worst it’s completely broken and janky. Story and attention to detail in the world are almost unmatched, but, for me, a good game should also have good gameplay.

Perfect Dark which is pretty much the spiritual successor to Golden Eye is a much funner game on single player. I dropped BOTW after 4hrs mainly due to weapons breaking constantly and the stamina bar. Haven’t touched the last of us pt 1 or 2 since the story and setting don’t interest me at all. I loved AC Origins and Odyssey though. Odyssey got me back into playing more single player games in 2022 after only playing 1 or 2 story games since 2013.

I agree with your reasoning on all of the games and can note the distinction between important vs best. But. Halo CE was kinda like N64 zelda games IMO. The very annoying aspects paved the way for the later games in the franchise to be goated. While that does make it more of an important game instead of a best game-- I think you cant appreciate the greatness of the franchise as much. It sounds like the same argument was made for God of War. But. I think that game has less excuses being a modern 2018 game. No newcomer will just play Halo CE without intending to play the rest of the Halo games.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t finish GTA IV. I hated the combat. The driving was okay, soundtrack was a banger (hey, I know you’ve heard this song like a billion times, but we’re going to play it again, and again and again!!!). I hate the combat. HATE. It’s awful. You die really quickly. The worst part, though, the FINAL MISSION bugged and I couldn’t finish it. It sucked, and ik people are going to say I could fix it with mods, but I couldn’t find any good ones and you shouldn’t have to get a mod to play a game. Really disappointed, I wanted to see Niko’s story wrap up.

The thing with old games is if you don't have nostalgia for it. It's just too outdated for you. I got a playsation in my 20s and I honestly didn't like almost any of the exclusives. Just because I had no special connect to them. I'd still be hyped to play gta 4 or halo. Though I'm not going to buy them again. I didn't play last of us 2 but they made games longer because the budgets are bigger and even tho alot of people won't complete them. For those who are die hard fans. It will ve a massive bonus. It sucks when you buy a game that ur hyped for and it ends too soon. Most people will drop a game once they hit a game over.

As someone has said is not so rare you don’t like TLOU 2 story and pacing. It was indeed a polarizing game. I have to say though I love the game. It is just like you said, it made me feel emotions I weirdly have. Everything about it is so human, from the camera movement to the happiest of moments. Nonetheless, I agree with with the gameplay dragging, levels being very long for not a clear reason

with the Battle Royale debate, having over 100 days on apex i can say its the best experience bar titanfsll 2 ive ever had. the gameplay is so silky smooth snd i wish halo and cod would feel like it. By quality it is the best BR ever so to not get a mention is crazy. Its also really the only BR that still feels similar to the OG game. Good BR ganes can be made with the right ganeplay choices

Great list!! I haven’t played all of those, but of the ones I did, I heard they were great only to be disappointed. Inside was a waste of time and boring for me. I enjoyed it for a short while but then it just got repetitive and… boring. God of War. Thank you. I don’t enjoy this game at all. I played some of uncharted 4 but highly dislike the movie style games, and so I watched someone else play the last of us games. While I enjoyed parts of the stories, I was glad I didn’t play the games. One that is not on your list that would be in mine: Bloodborne. The Souls games are my favorites. And after all the hype for Bloodborne, I was disappointed with the game. I was expecting too much, and though it was fun, I came out feeling that I liked the other souls games better.

I think both last of us games are overrated. 1 is better, but both have simple, shallow gameplay and puzzles. People mainly focus the story or how cinematic they are, but like most naughty dog games, they feel more like interactive movies than games first and foremost. Everything they do, other games do better. Other games like RE and SH do survival horror far better. Other action games like DMC, MGR, etc have far better combat systems. Other games have far better, less linear maps to explore, go off the beaten track in, and find secrets and hidden areas in. In terms of gameplay alone, they're just average.

Man, it's wild to me that anyone thinks Ragnarok's story is superior to GoW 2018's. The gameplay? Yeah, it's better. However, the story and the dialogue took a huge step back. It wasn't surprising to hear that they hired amateur writers like Alanah Pearce (she has writing experience, but it was a completely different genre). Too much of the writing relied upon modern idioms, slang, and cursing.

Not sure where you’re lurking bro but most of your opinions on these games are definitely spot on. Have heard of very very few people saying GTA4 is the best, TLOU2 is widely hated by everyone but game reviewers, Ass Creed Odyssey and especially Valhalla aren’t really beloved they might be better than the other AC games but 7/10 is just about right, never heard a single person say the original Nier is better than the remade version and honestly that sounds like a hipster opinion. I agree with almost all of these (only one I disagree with is GoW Ragnarok being better than GoW 2018) and if someone’s blocking and flaming you for these takes then that’s a them problem.
