Having seen a lot of videos of police officers being unprofessional, this is somewhat refreshing. He did not escalate. He tried to do the field sobriety test correctly. He treated her with proper respect.

Yeah that was a bold claim he made, especially when he said most nice police officers have a secret agenda, which is just silly. Everyone is entitled to their opinion no matter how bad they are. I think he just has a bad opinion about police in general, which is perfect if you’re a criminal defense lawyer (or was going to be). Cops should do everything they possibly can to keep drunk driving morons off the roads.

I have PTSD, major depressive disorder, SAD, OCD, and generalized anxiety disorder. These things make it hard to: sleep, be in crowds (personal ptsd trigger, not everyone), function on a day to day basis, not obsess over things like death and futility, pick at myself. Etc. These things do not: make me drink and drive and then use them as an excuse for doing so. What an absolute piece of trash

When a police officer is already telling you to get out of your car, that is NOT the time. The more you talk back or frustrate the cop, the worse an already bad situation is going to get for you. She is not saying "I have social anxiety so therefore I'm allowed to drive drunk." You get that, right? She's using social anxiety to excuse her inability to interact with the police officer normally, in hopes that it will cause the officer to conclude that her abnormal behavior and inability to do the FSTs is because of social anxiety and generational trauma. Basically she's saying that she's acting the way she is because of social anxiety and generational trauma, NOT because she's drunk. Her ploy is to claim she isn't drunk. Not to claim that it is okay that she's drunk.

not sure if its the same one I dont think so since I dont think the man was drunk but it reminded me of a woman like many years ago, maybe even 10 who was riding her bike and was killed a couple days before her wedding. it happens a lot and its super, super sad. I do feel bad for the driver too if I remember correctly it was all just a complete accident, but its something that would live with them forever. They didnt get jail time since, it was shown the driver wasnt at fault, the woman wasnt either but I dont remember what exactly happened

I wish people wouldn't try to use mental health as an excuse for being a bad human. Mental health issues do not make you a bad person, people like this person add to the stigma that hurts people with mental health issues. Edit- My point is that mental health should be taken seriously, people really do need help and there is nothing wrong with that. The problem is that some people, just like with every issue, try to play the system and it always hurts the cause.

What pisses me off about people like this is they're the reason stuff like social anxiety or introversion is typically made fun of. My social anxiety isn't as bad nowadays as it was when I was a teen, but I'm still mocked by coworkers for preferring to be by myself. Whenever I so much as mention the word "anxiety" to someone, they just look at me like I just spoke an alien language, ESPECIALLY because I'm a guy, and by this society's standards "men can't have mental health issues". I just hate how because of people who exaggerate mental health issues on Tiktok, or because of people who use it as an excuse for the dumbest shit, people who genuinely suffer from those things aren't taken seriously. In high school, I used to have such bad social anxiety that I talked with the principal of the school, and I was allowed to sit out in the empty side-hallway near the IT room. The deal was I had to be in the class to listen to lectures, but if we were just doing paperwork or videos I could be out in the hallway by myself. And guess what... Someone faking anxiety came into my hallway one day claiming they were having an "anxiety attack" and lo and behold, 15 minutes later, a whole group of her friends were in there talking loudly and joking and moving around to the point the IT lady (the only other person near that hallway) had to kick them out. Side note: I miss that IT lady. She left me alone for the most part but would still check on me and chat with me a little on my better days. She also kicked everyone else out that tried to join me in the hallway, unless I told her it was okay. I gave her a couple gifts before I graduated.

I completely agree, and am really glad you’re doing better now! I’ve not only dealt with bad anxiety on and off for most of my life, but I’m also Indigenous and have only mentioned it to cops when specifically asked (I have a pretty clearly Native name, so when they see my ID it’s definitely come up) and luckily it’s usually just out of curiosity on their part. If they’re so aware of the dangers and discrimination we can face with some cops, why would they flaunt it for no damn reason? Like you said, it just diminishes the seriousness of everything.

Fun fact: back when I used to drink I once passed a field sobriety test piss drunk. Eyes bloodshot. 10am on a Friday. Cans in car. I was the luckiest person I know. Looking back it angers me how selfish I was and I dont drink anymore. Watcing other people take these tests via bodycam gives me a strange feeling, and to anyone who has ever taken one, maybe you know this feeling.

It seems insane that field sobriety tests are even a thing, when the cops have breathalyzers in their cars. Here in the UK they don't bother with any of that, just breathalyze you immeadiately, why would you not do that? I've driven in outrageous states. More than one crash, but always got lucky. Back around 2000 drug testing wasn't really commonplace, and I'm pretty sure the ecstasy saved me on the breathalyser once. Wouldn't do it now, its very stupid and dangerous. If I was caught though, I would've just be compliant and held my hands up if I'm bang to rights. These entitled people are fucking slimy.

I'm a teenager with (suspected) anxiety (on the waiting list to see if I have it, and tbh the thought of driving drunk would make me MORE anxious. Field sobriety tests are not designed to have you fail. I was pulled out of my vehicle on suspicion of DUI. Passed the field sobriety test and a breathalyzer. Blew all zeros. Went on my way.

I love how the DUI test is a test that’s “designed for you to fail” and yet there’s only one portion of the test that actually matters if you fail it. Most of what they have you do for a DUI stop is a distraction. The only thing that actually matters is the eye test. The eye test is the only one you can’t fail sober.

@@billbombshiggy9254 …Nystagmus is exactly what they’re looking for. Your eyes don’t really DO that when your sober. It’s exceedingly rare for a person’s eyes (especially an adult) to just do that. If you can prove to the court that it’s a condition you had prior to consuming the alcohol then you didn’t fail, did you? But if you’re one of the .1% of people that just have Nystagmus regularly, and you aren’t actually drunk, then maybe blowing the breathalyzer is an actually smart idea for once. Everybody wants to argue when they don’t even know what they’re talking about.

That's actually not at all true. I'm on disability for my agoraphobia, GAD, and bipolar. When I would get severely depressed I would turn to drinking, I'd drink a little before going to the bar along with a Xanax and go out and drink in order to self medicate. It makes perfect sense if you truly do understand these disorders and the ways in which people try to self medicate and make those feelings go away. Not taking up for her, but what you're saying is just not true.
