Totally agree! I use the Original and the Snipe, came in a two pack. Also, the Wraparound was a game changer when the price of sticks started to really rise and you couldn't afford to beat up your on-ice sticks while playing off-ice with them!

At our Play It Again Sports we have these real old skates on the wall, I don't remember their name but they have three blades stacked next to eachother. Very odd and quite wide, so instead of like a 3mm blade it's about 9mm. I believe the central blade was just a little longer than the side blades too.

The RB pumps work for me. With a wide forefoot and narrow a heel, they help lock in my heel from sliding around and causing bone spurs. Bring them back.

Bedard uses Flare blades and Fantilli uses XC Blades. I have a set of XC Blades and I can definitely go with a shallower hollow. I don’t really notice the flared out part in the front but I definitely feel that the heel section digs into the ice more and I have a bit more confidence on tight turns.

I have been using xc for more than a year now. They are way smoother skating-wise than any other steel I have used. Also due to shallower hollow I dont have to sharpen as often.

I live in Northern California, where ice and snow is pretty much non-existent outside of ice rinks. The Green Biscuit (and other off-ice pucks like Dryland) has been a huge boost when it came to training for hockey. I could practice my shooting and stick-handling in my driveway or in the gym. While I'm still fortunate enough to attend stick-and-puck sessions when I have the time, being able to practice my hockey skills off the ice is incredibly convenient. On a related note, the hockey wraparound has helped me practice on rough surfaces without chewing up my composite sticks. While my gym has relatively smooth floors (especially in the Basketball court), my driveway isn't exactly friendly to stick blades, so having a wrap-around helps a lot. One thing I would like to see featured in a video is stick-handling balls. While I do enjoy using the green biscuit, I often find that using a stick-handling ball has helped improve my hands significantly, as it ensures that I ain't handling the stick too roughly or clumsily.

I have the XC blades and they are a game-changer! The full steel construction and the curve in the blade definitely improves cornering capabilities. The curve let me use a flatter rocker which improved glide, acceleration and stability through turns and transitions with enhanced precision. I wouldn't go back to straight blades.

Titan's ASD stick line in the late 90's had concave profile. Palm side would be concave, finger side would be flat...for top and bottom hand. They also had profile with larger radius on the top of the stick, smaller radius on bottom. This was back when sticks were pretty much square with slight radius corners.

I had a retail 9K0 with a Phaneuf Curve (P91) when I was in bantam 2nd year . Honestly, best stick I’ve ever used. First shot was a slap shot from the red line that hit the cross bar then deflected up into the ceiling. Ever since that stick I’ve used all variants of that tech. Reebok 808, Reebok Ribcore Original. I still use a CCM SuperTacks 2 Dressed as an original Ribcore build, 90 flex, Forsberg Prostock. I think of it as THE 2nd Model of Stick to ever perform the Michigan Move. Because Forsberg was the 2nd after Svech.

Back in the early to mid 80's in Toronto, i remember KOHO having a stick that was basically a hollow oval hard plastic one piece stick. It was very dark blue with yellow lettering, and had a texture on the shaft to imitate tape from top to bottom. It never caught on. This pre-dates what we consider a one peice ice hockey stick by at least 20 years

As a goalie, there are two products that I wish were still available: The Curtis Curve that was was available on Christian sticks (and later Eagle), and the player glove fingers on the Louisville Bionic blocker. Why neither were more popular I will never know, and I cried the day I broke my last stick with the Curtis Curve (had it for almost 20 years because I bought a set of 6 on an ebay auction and babied the last two)

Great video. You mentioned Reebok pump skates. Before those pumps you had CCM pumps and before those you had CCM VacuTacks…brutal experience having them fitted. But fit like a pair of socks once fitted. AMAZING Skates!!! They would bake the skates then fit a sealable bag over your feet once you had the skates on. Then hook a pump up to the bag and suck all the air out of the bags for 15-20 minutes. It was like 20lbs of pressure on your feet. You had to wear ultra thin socks with a foam pad over your toes. I was told at the time it was so the vacuum pressure didn’t pull your toe nails off. Brutal fitting process but an amazing fit. Zero break in time. I wish I could still get them.

Finally, you are the 1st person that I've seen talk about the VTs! I had a pair of those 651s from back in the early 90's I believe. Me and some guys from my hockey team took a trip out to Kenny Smith's hockey shop in Mt. Joy, PA. I was looking to upgrade my Microns that I was using at the time. Came across the VT651s and our goalie convinced my to check them out. They were more expensive than what I had budgeted for, but you only live once! I was the 1st customer to purchase them from the store and they weren't very familiar with the whole fitting/molding process. One of the skates ended up with a slight cosmetic flaw, but it never affected it's performance. You described the process to a T! I remember my feet going numb as they were pressurizing! I had those skates for many, many years and still had the original blades on them! I skated with a shallow hollow and didn't get them sharpened often, a true "stay at home" defenseman. I skated barefoot for many years and when the leather finally started to breakdown and socks wouldn't help with the rough feeling in my heels, it was time to put them to rest! I actually recorded a little video of my sendoff because as you, I truly loved those skates! I often tell people this story, but unless you've owned a pair, you will never know the true experience!

@@davidschumaker8107. Awesome!! Yep. Early 90’s. A stay at home Dman myself. I went barefoot too. Tried socks but just couldn’t feel the ice the same once I went barefoot. I wore those skates until I couldn’t repair them anymore. Sad day. It literally felt like your feet were being crushed during the fitting. But I’d go through it again right now if I could find a pair

That's something I've been wanting to see tbh. I'm thinking that when my Supreme M4's finally give up the ghost and I've saved up enough money, Imma try and get either the M5's or whatever the top Bauer Supreme skates will be when that time comes (probably the Supreme Shadow). Been wondering if saving money and getting the M5 would be good, or if the extra money to get the pro-level model is worth it. Thankfully, my feet are small-ish so I only need to get Intermediate skates 😂

I still have a pair of Mission 3-finger gloves. They are weird in another way: top and bottom hand gloves are different shapes, so you need to buy a pair that fits your "handedness." Top glove is somewhat articulated at the cuff, while bottom one is more traditional and straight. Great video.

Lots of cool and interesting products! I see tblades as more of a freestyle skate. Id give ‘em a spin. The triage triangle shaft just seems weird to me. The bent shafts just seem weird to me. I haven’t used any and I don’t want to. I so want to try out those bladetech blades! I’d get a set of them In bright purple because I love purple. Sorry, the three finger glove just doesn’t make any sense to me lol. I so could use a green biscuit as I don’t have the money nor do I live close to an arena plus I would not like to cost my parents money. I shot a hole in the drywall of my last apartment. Cost $900. 😬. Take care Chris!

Yeah. Once CCM and Bauer switched to using Memory Foam/other advanced foams and thermoformable materials, the air pump was no longer necessary. You could now get snug, well-fitting skates without pumping them up. My Bauer Supreme M4's fit like a glove after baking and breaking in, no pumping needed. I still think Reebok pumps can be useful as rental skates, since many people who are new/unfamiliar with skating often think that the rentals are either too tight or don't have the necessary support. When I was still using rentals, I was BAD at skating. I couldn't find my edges, and I often had blisters from ill-fitting rentals with worn linings. Once I finally bought my Supreme M4's and baked them, the issues immediately went away and my skating skills improved immensely. I still think that if I had the Reebok Pumps as rentals, I could've had well-fitting skates before I bought my own, which would've significantly BOOSTED my skating abilities.
@mattmcquate
@mattmcquate 5 ай бұрын
@@Pokemonmaster150b Yeah I totally agree with you about making rental skates with the pumps. When I took my girlfriend skating she complained about how her feet were hurting with the worn down padding and very little ankle support. If CCM and Bauer brought back the 70ks or 80ks and a Nexus skate with pumps as a rental skate line I think people would have a more enjoyable time skating.

How about some reviews with the US pro shop spec "Shift pro" line from Bauer? Our local pro shop carried these sticks and skates and they were very interesting. The skates used a mid-range boot but with some modifications like the top-level tongue and premium runners. The shift pro sticks are very similar to the premium vapor line of sticks but just a tiny bit heavier and at about half the cost. You can't get these via catalog purchase, you have to find a pro shop that is certified by Bauer to sell them. My older player used this line of gear for years, and I'm interested to see what you think about the mix of mid and high range tech that is in the Bauer shift pro line.

t blade system seems wasteful from an eco perspective. Without some sort of incentivized recycle program, these would be really horrible if they were widely used. If you could trade them in (like an auto part core charge) then perhaps there's a consumer and business model that make sense. But unless the performance improvement is worth changing boot and blade brands, this product doesn't stand up well against a premium blade and a sparx sharpener. The cringe factor of using a t blade and throwing it away seems like a high barrier to overcome. Plus... even my 10 yr old player chips his blades up pretty badly every game and his blades need a touch-up sharpening every 6 or so ice hours just from getting chipped during games. Having to buy a new tblade every 2 weeks also seems unrealistic when it's compared to just tossing the skate on the sparx for 2-4 passes before games.
