Quintessential. The reason that Dell is not upgrading those crappy panels is exactly the people you are representing🤣🤣. A 300 - 350 nit screen was the standard in 2020, and I'm surprised you are four years behind us. Please note, the dodgy stuff Alienware provides apparently can't justify the pricing, even if you don't see that the mainstream for 18' panel is 400 - 500 nit brightness, refresh = 240 Hz.

@@letsqu1tThey are the cheapest, the panel cost is factored in. The panel is over 300 nits, closer to 350 btw which is FINE for normal indoor usage. Don’t be a hater mindlessly, simping for bright panels because laptop makers are pushing them doesn’t show nuanced thinking in context. If they cost the same you’d have a legit criticism, but they don’t so the criticism doesn’t stand.

I don't understand why people are so shocked about this. I have an over 7 year old laptop, that's only 17.3", though probably has the same footprint as this one, because mine has very big bezels. Anyway, mine has over 4 kgs! Without the charger. And I'm perfectly fine with that. I wish more would also not shy away from this and have well built, well cooled, feature & port packed laptops. I have 4 sticks of RAM, one HDD, 2 nvme SSDs, I regularly use the 4 USB type A ports, along with the other ports. Oh, and it has a DVD too. Though to be fair, in these 7 years, I think I used it about 10 times only. Still, the idea that is a true workhorse, able to do absolutely anything you need / throw at it stands.

2K for 165hz only? No HDR screen? No Thunderbolt 5? No USB 3.2 Gen2x2 or USB 4 Gen2 for all other USB ports? Slow RAM? And for 4000+ bucks? Alienware is crazy.
@ovrskr20 күн бұрын
they're not crazy, the entry level model is very reasonably priced at 1899, and performs very well. I have it. the screen is also great, no issues with the colors and the eye can't differenciate 165 vs 250 hz anyway. The RAM can be upgraded as you wish like with any machine, and the USB 4.2 thing, Idk what difference it makes, 2% faster. What's Thunderbolt 5? The only thing I can think of that uses thunderbolt is external GPU, which you definitely don't need with this thing anyway. I find it well balanced, you get a fast cpu, a fast GPU, a good keyboard, a good screen. Nothing is the best, but nothing sucks either about it. Except the weight, it is indeed a bit heavy. The case is a tank too, unlike the other laptops which are plastic. There's also a 5 GB ethernet port, that's first class connectivity that I don't see elsewhere. Yeah the 4090 is expensive, but 100% of that is the NVIDIA chips costing $3500 because of the AI bubble and monopoly situation

But to be realistic, if you want to play demanding AAA games which will push your laptop to the absolute max(forget battery life and noise level even with MacBook Pro at that stage and just plug into the adapter), would you buy a high end headset with microphone for that purpose instead since you definitely can afford that? Cheaping out on parts still isn't an excuse at that price point though.

Hi @JarrodsTech, for m18 r2, will a i9 14900hx, 32gb ram with 4070 gtx and 1tb space be too bad? Not a heavy gamer, will mostly play Moba games and do some coding. (Note got deal of 2300 cad for this spec)

Please make a video comparing asus tuf vs rog, i want to see diference between budged and flagship, and if flagship is worth it...same specs.

Yes, it's exceedingly very impressive specs. It's a great purchase. I would buy for $2000 USD.

I think you should test Linux support with Fedora as it has much newer drivers, and they eventually trickle down to other distros.

but did they fix all their overheat problems? I always end up returning alienware because their cooling is crap.

Something missing from your reviews is customer support. I understand that is difficult to gauge but the more complex and powerful these systems become the more readily they fail, like all systems. In this regard Alienware (Dell) has a clear advantage over many of its competitors.

Loq, tuf , nitro 16 or nitro 17 any of those with a 4060 is good on a deal. Consider gigabyte aorus 4060 as well.

my PalWorld crashes on this laptop sometimes, but not on a Lenovo Legion with 3080 and some Alienware with AMD chip and 3070... I heard there are issues with 14th gen Intel and motherboard pushing with too much power... how do I set the BIOS to prevent crashes?

I think its very sad, that on the new Alienwares not even the Alienware logo under the screen lights up. Only the keyboard, startbutton and the rear of the laptop are illuminated. On the older models you had many rgb zones like speaker grills, logo, tochpad, control button bar ...

Hello, I have an R18M2 with the same configuration, is it normal that I have a CPU temperature of 90 to 100 degrees when gaming, I think that's very high?

Where is the most important data: thermals under load chart compared between all laptops? Who cares about battery life or speakers on a gaming laptop, thermals is the most important metric you're paying for, I want to see how it compares to other models.

I recently learned that Intel's 13th and 14th generation processors were manufactured with a serious microcode algorithm issue that causes PCs and laptops to freeze. Have you ever noticed something like this?

I have the M18R1 I got in Feb 23 and it's basically the same one you tested. The R2 isn't really updated much besides the CPU clock speed slightly. I was lucky to get mine on sale for $2800 before taxes so great deal. A cooler is a must, so I got the GT600 with hub that works fantastic. I added a Razer mouse and headset (poor sound and very loud) to complete the build. Great review.. I was surprised the AW was the bargain choice as well, couldn't pull the trigger on the MSI Titan.
