It's absolutely a true story and all that they engaged in in the video was also taking place during that Christmas Truce in 1914. What You definitely missed was who was doing the opera part in the end. That was done by Floor Jansen (Nightwish) as she is married to the drummer in Sabaton, Hannes Van Dahl.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear. NEVER skip the credits on a Sabaton video. In this instance you missed the fabulous singing of Floor Jansen of Nightwish and is married to the Sabaton drummer Hannes, who was the first soldier you saw in the video. Merry Christmas both.

Yes they did sample another Christmas song in the beginning. What you hear Joakim playing on the piano is the part of the song "Carol of the Bells" but played in reverse. And NOOOOO, you cut it off from the best part. The ending credits and the angelic voice singing during them is none other than Floor Jansen of Nightwish. That last bit to me just added a final emotional touch to an already amazing video.

Great one to do this time of year. I call Sabaton the metal history band. They have a KZbin history channel. The part played on piano was "Carol of the Bells" played in reverse. What you cut off at the end for credits was sung by Floor Jansen who is married to Hannes Van Dahl, the drummer of Sabaton.

As others have pointed out, you missed the end credit part that had Floor Jansen's beautiful singing. You probably got into some people's naughty list for that. But it's still several days until Christmas, so you have a chance to jump back to the nice list. Christmas is a time of good will and cheer after all. You should react to Floor Jansen singing a heavier version of "O Holy Night" in Finnish "Oi Jouluyö". You can find that video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJLWd5mBpqplrMk

I have studied this event extensively, as I wrote about it on two occasions in a newsletter I published. The generals on both sides, which is demonstrated by the foot stopping the ball, passed regulations that any attempt to do it again would be considered treason under punishment of death. What a brave and bold reaction from those who risk nothing and have everything to gain. What a shame, by skipping the end, you missed Floor Jansen's contribution to this epic masterpiece. Floor is married the Hannes Van Dahl, the blonde at the beginning and drummer for Sabaton. I wonder how they got her to lend her incredible voice to this story. . "We really need a voice from Heaven at the end." Hannes: "Hold my beer and hand me my phone." It's truly sad the entire world is not taught this in school, for as Sabaton told us, "we are all brothers." Enemies are created by greed. BTW: The recognizable tune at the beginning and throughout is "Carol of the Bells" played in reverse.

Including actual recreation of the trenches , acting lessons for the band members and the some of the lyrics coming from letters sent home by soldiers who were there and experienced this moment first hand . What??? You cut it off? Why??? You missed the beautiful vocalization by Floor Jansen that is a part of the emotional draw of the song and the video. I'm sure that you have already been told that Floor is married to Hannes van Dahl the drummer for Sabaton as well as the blond haired actor who was stunned by the grenade and then was the first soldier to step up out of the trenches. Never cut off a Sabaton video especially when you've already said you don't know what it's about and didn't bother to research the historical facts ahead of time. It's not a concept, it's a history. These are not made-up stories. Sabaton songs are historical events and this one is even world famous. I don't understand what people are taught in history class. I mean, there are even photos of this event where they play football. And the credits are also part of the song or did you notice a breakdown somehow? There was no such thing. Sung by Floor Jansen, by the way, but you're obviously not interested.

Edmund Burke is often misquoted as having said, “Those who don’t know history are destined to repeat it.” Spanish philosopher George Santayana is credited with the aphorism, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,” while British statesman Winston Churchill wrote, “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” A cross, in Saint-Yves (Saint-Yvon - Ploegsteert; Comines-Warneton in Belgium), commemorates the site of the Christmas Truce. @Coyote818181 How absolutely right you are. It's not a concept, it's a history. These are not made-up stories. Concise and correct.

In this case , the video is so good because it was made by people that usually make movies. Moviemaking also shut down when the rest of the world did, so they had time for this. You are correct on the album title, The War To End All Wars. The record was released in Mar 2022, this was the first single that came out in Dec 2021. Drummer Hannes van Dahl was the first soldier out of the trenches, guitarist Chris Rorland was first out on the other side. Guitarist Tommy Johansson had the battlefield solo, and bassist Par Sundstrom was at the cross. The piano melody is a variation on Carol of the Bells. Lead singer Joakim Broden has said this song is actually a waltz.

Sabaton is such a unique band. They combine military history with pretty hard rock. The two themes seem to have subliminal connections. In this instance, a Fugue, put to the events of Christmas 1914, when troops from both sides, laid down their arms, and spontaneously started singing carols together, and engaged in some innocent fun. The Generals didn't like it that much. Punishment of death it was repeated in future Christmases. This is absolutely true and happened up and down the line. It probably happened on a much smaller scale, in this and future wars, but this was mass spontaneity. Humanity making a last stand on the battlefield.

Your comments were very good after the video despite not listening to the end. There are so many stories that Sabaton covers. We'd all love for peace throughout the world, but we know man is not perfect. Young men are constantly being drawn into wars not of their own choosing. I suggest you watch En Livstid I Krig (Live - The Great Tour - Gothenburg) by Sabaton. It's a song by Sabaton that is about the average soldier at war. Follow that with the song 1916, a remake of a Motorhead song that captures the pure horror of the events of WW1.

This might be Sabaton’s best song. No, it’s not their most powerful musically. But pay attention to the rhythm. I think it’s in 3:2… not sure… as I’m not skilled enough to recognize that. But the beats work in threes or twos. What’s so phenomenal about that is it sticks to the Carol of The Bells rhythm. So, they pull that song in at the start and end, BUT - and this is why it might be their best song ever - they stick to that rhythm for the entire song. That’s impressive. Not their most powerful song. Maybe not even the best story (damned close, but No Bullets Fly may be better). But overall. Such an impressive creation. Wildly excellent song.

This only happened once and never happened again in WW1 also it was banned in WW2. It happened from Christmas eve 1914 till Boxing day ( 26-12-1914). It's from true events that happened between British troops and German troops around 150,000 along the line. This true story is part of British and German history and as a 7 year old boy I was told about this true event in my junior school history class, it is well known in the UK and in Germany. Personally to me it's the greatest Christmas story of all time and also Sabaton made the greatest Christmas song of all time. I live in the county of Hertfordshire here in England and during WW1 my county had two Regiment's, the Hertfordshire Regiment and the Hertfordshire Yeomanry. The 2nd Battalion of the Hertfordshire Regiment was involved in the Christmas Truce and the Football came from a British Soldier in the London Irish Regiment who are still around today and are part of His Majesty's British Army. The actual Football used in the Christmas Truce is still around and is housed in the London Irish Regiment's Museum at there Barracks in London. I was almost about to subscribe - and recommend you to listen to Sabaton's Motörhead cover of "1916" but I fear that you would skip their credits as well, so let's just leave it at that. It could have been such a great reaction ...

Whoops. You skipped the credits. As far as we 'We are all friends'...not even 5 months before they were all trading partners with each other, and had been for quite a while...until the guns of August.

You might want to watch Joyeax (sic) Noel, which talks about the Christmas Truce. Sabaton's 1916 is amazing as well.

Congratulations you screwed up so badly I’m impressed you can use a computer! Those credits singing was the incomparable Floor Jansen! She is married to the drummer of Sabaton.

24th - 25th december 1914 this. the football is in museum now. when the battle started again they shot towards opposit trench but not to hit anyone, so they all got replaced buy their superiors apparently. it took sabaton 6 years to make this video to make it perfect and they did.
