"Process over result" School is the exact opposite of the growth mindset. All I've ever really learned from school is that if you can memorize what they taught you, then you can get good grades and you don't even need to really know the subject. Good grades are supposed to lead to success which is not always the case. School made learning something I hate. Once I started to explore stuff on my own I realized learning was actually really fun and fulfilling.

As a current high school student, I can totally agree with this. I've learned to take my own education into my own hands. I recently began a journal where I write down information about certain topics that I'm interested in outside of school taught things. I just barely started it but I intend to keep it up. I'm not going to rely on school to teach me what I want to know anymore. I'll just learn it all myself

Summary: how to develop a growth mindset 1. Believe that your brain can change as you learn. 2. Focus on the process and refine it. Read books or talk to other people how their process is and learn from it. 3. Find adversity by stepping out of your comfort zone. This way you will learn that everything requires effort, not simply talent.

What did u start doing to change to a growth mindset?
@plxiznogoud33286 жыл бұрын
When moving towards a growth mindset I think it's important to realize two things: 1. Understand how you get better at something. Carol Dweck showed that kids who were taught their brains would grow with effort ended up getting better math graders than the other kids. This doesn't apply just to learning something new. If you're a cyclist and your coach all of a sudden tells you to do 6h bike rides and you do them just because your coach told you so, you will end up struggling a lot, specially in the face of adversity. If on the other hand you understand why you need to do what your coach told you, then it's much easier, you are more likely to succeed, even with adversity. 2. Realize how your fixed mindset takes over in your daily life and be aware of it. After watching this video (and perhaps a few more) on growth mindset and fixed mindset, you will realize how stupid it is to a have a fixed mindset. Having a fixed mindset is like being in a little prison: you're afraid of trying something new, afraid of making mistakes. When you realize it is stupid and you are aware of it in your daily life, you will naturally drop it, you will naturally change your life :)

Funny you mention the example of a test result. When I was a kid I did pretty good but I never really tried hard at school. My counselors would tell me how smart I was and how much potential I had to try to encourage me to try harder. However, this made me believe that I was “born smart” and therefore didn’t have to try as hard as the other kids. I didn’t realize I was already developing an ego and a fixed mindset from then on. In recent years I’ve been trying to correct my mistakes and learn to be a better person. Thank you for making this video, I hope to go into 2020 with a growth mindset.

As a elementary or possibly daycare student, I was told the same and that resulted in me thinking I must be too abnormally intelligent for my age and therefore must have access to a past life level of adult intelligence. From there I had beliefs such as my brain was 10 years behind because I was 10 when my grades were dropping so that must have been when I lost access to my past life's adult self. By 15, I gave up on ever getting smarter than I was and even now at 33 I don't feel any smarter than I was then. In fact I feel far worse since I have a decade of failures to reinforce the idea that "any teacher who told me I was smart was an absolute LIAR"

There’s a book I read about special forces. A quote I’ll never forget is “You cant mass produce a special forces soldier” I apply this to my life. It means that you can’t have 1000 soldiers enter selection and have all 1000 pass. It’s a tough course, not meant to be easy. It’s not meant to be a physical challenge but also a mental challenge. A SF soldier’s greatest weapon is the head he carries on his shoulders. A never quit attitude, make room for failure, and grow. Train as if you’re life is on the line because eventually, it will. Don’t ever think you can’t do anything. If a 220, 5’10” 18 year old who has never worked out a day in their life, spent their days smoking, eating and being lazy, can make it through basic combat training, then not only him, but every soul on earth can be something greater than themselves. And that 220lb 18 year old is going to Special Forces Selection on their 21st birthday

Now in college, I've failed for the first time in my life, but it wasn't a total fail I learned alot about myself the final month and in this break. I started making small schedules for every day on sheets of paper. I realized I lacked discipline. Began working out again, started watching MHA in free time, and decided to get more involved and organized with school this Spring. Good luck to you too!

I can honestly relate to this. From primary to high school I always had the highest grades and my classmates called me a genius because I never studied, missed classes and never did my home work. In short, I had no study plan, but that was fine because of my grades high. :-P . My eyes start opened when I went to university and started failing modules. I think the older you get the more issues you have to deal with other than school, and this increases the need for discipline and consistency. I believe that as a kid it's hard to control the way you grow, but when you are older it's all up to you the person who you turn out to become.
@DavidMunoz-pb9iu6 жыл бұрын
Glangar for me it was kind of the opposite thankfully. In high school I was making As and Bs and Cs hear and there from freshman til junior year, but once my last semester of high school came, I realized I had to find out my future quick. So I decided to do Nursing and knowing college ain’t cheap and my family isn’t what you would call wealthy, I’ve actually been working my ass off knowing classes were out of pocket, and I’m still managing a 4.0 right now and just got accepted into my nursing program! I’ve also realized that for my future career (CRNA) I’ll need to maintain that GPA for grad school. So my drive is still going strong!

Video made possible by Brilliant. Growth mindset : - Brain keeps changing and malleable. - Knowing failure is part of learning process. - There is no fears to keep trying until the target is achieved, by being resilient. - Focusing not on result, but on progress, perfecting overtime. - Chance of success increases because there is abundance of attempts. - There is always flux and transformation. - Working hard, persevere, and discipline is a lifestyle. - Write down process for getting the target. List down the steps and put a quantifiable measurement to as many things as possible that are executable. - Get out of comfort zone. - Look for advice from relevant people who has achieved what we want, then incorporate them into our own. - On the way we will encounter people trying to get us to "Fixed Mindset", ignore them. - Liked and subscribed.

I lived with a fixed mindset for the longest time. I was used to getting good grades easily throughout school and had developed a core aspect of my identity around being "smart". Once I was in college a couple years though, between classes getting more difficult and being unable to be on my ADD meds anymore due to health reasons, I started to feel like a failure as my grades got worse. I had to find new ways to make myself focus. I didn't graduate with the same kind of grades in college like I had in high school, but I didn't fail any classes and I still graduated. It's often hard to see myself as successful at anything when I'm not actively succeeding in everything I do, but it's a process and the longer you stick to doing something, the more likely you'll be to actually achieve it. Trying to internalize the growth mindset is hard when you spent so long in the fixed mindset and actively being praised for your results rather than the work put into it.

I agree a growth mindset doesnt happen in a day. It takes a lot of time and effect to change the way you think and open yourself up to new learnings and change. I remember thinking I wasnt smart enough compare to other people, it was only when i decided to learn and open my mind to everything that everything changed. I wasnt because I wasnt smart enough... I was smart in different ways. When my mind expanded, my skills and intellegency grew as well. learning and discovering a bit at a time... changed who I was

I can definitely relate to some of the things said here. I always had an easy time with math in school and high school, never feeling like I had to put in much work to get the highest grades. Now I'm in university, and the same just doesn't apply here. I suddenly feel pretty average and don't put in as much work as my fellow students. It has become a bad habit for me not to invest must work in something like math, and now that I had my exam, I felt the result of that. I've been living with the growth mindset for the past year or so and it pretty much changed my life. I am constantly striving to get to learn new skills and perfect them to the best of my abilities. I am growing a youtube channel right now that has around 300 subscribers. I'm commenting this just so I can come back in 2 years when I have 1M subscribers and prove all this is actually working!

I kind of don't like the phrase "step out of your comfort zone" because it doesn't exactly tell you how far you should "step out" to be considered "out of the comfort zone". When I try to take the advice, I took a step too far out to the point I stress myself out. But when I'm considerably "out of the comfort zone", I still feel somewhat comfortable with the challenges so I kind of discredit myself because, well, I'm technically still comfortable hence inside the comfort zone. What I think the advice should say is "Challenge yourself everyday" but that's my 2 cents on this phrase that I personally hate.
@boing9515 жыл бұрын
Kovanovsky thats the point it kinda has the same effect on your brain, but different people look it by their own perspective so you need to find out what works with your perspective. At this field the one that works for me is “never settle on something unprofitable”

The taxi driver info was amazing. Also, 'Process over result' is massive. Live a lifestyle where happiness is the byproduct, not live with the goal of happiness. Simple, yet very hard to grasp. In the last five years or so, I've gone from full-on fixed mindset, focusing on the goals I had and how impossible they are. Now, I live a lifestyle that helps me work towards those goals, but I've come to realize the fulfillment of my lifestyle is now much more satisfying that reaching my goals. It's hard to explain, but this video is spot-on.

You can build a growth mindset by opening yourself up to learning and growth without putting limits to it. Even when you think its correct or incorrect in. You open your mind to new ideas and thought patterns that you have never known before.

Thanks for ur valuable information.I want to state something upon this i was a very good scoring student as covid came and i went to class 9 my friend circle got increased i started teasing the students who used to study very very long time behind and i was like i was among the group of students who dont study more.But still for my grp they thought that i study a lot and i was like no i dont study.I used to study earlier not now as it seems to me like I am inately smart and I could good even not providing that hours for study that it required.But my marks started deteriorating. In the covid time i didnt used to attend the online classes and i used to just chill off. I used to watch motivational videos rather than studying and moreover my marks my hardwork and my heroic spells got fucked upp..This year I am in class 11 and now its december and half my 11 syllbus i have not even touched so..and now what i am thinking is..I am thinking of going to iit and not giving my 100% which is the real thing to do in its preparation..when i look back to childhood self i admire that tha time i was smart and today i am little dumb but after ur video i realised that the only thing to do is not to think about anybody of my grp anymore that what they will think i need to pay my 100% that is all i need tp learn that how to give ur 100% thats it...I just need to do anything coming out of my comfort zone just giving up anyrjing for giving my studies that time...Now I am just giving 20% of myself but today i take this oath i would be my previous self ..actually even better than my previous self..making a journal making notes of my activities and what what i can do to give my 100% because I know that i could be in iit only if i would worth it and a worthy of it will surely give his or her 101%.I am very happy today because from today for one of my dream whether i dont i would be able to achieve or not but that dream is going to teach me my biggest lesson of my life that how to give ur 100% picking up myself from comfort zone and transform myself into a worthy humanbeing

I’ve been half growth mindset half fixed. For example I do believe you can get better but I would daily get caught up in things and get frustrated by my lack of performance in certain areas of my life. I would just get frustrated and dwell on it instead of thinking about how to improve and get better. I let my emotions get in the way of a mindset I definitely have when I’m calm but only if I’m calm and motivated enough to say hey this is something I’m gonna find a way to improve. Improvement to me is so satisfying, I hate when I don’t see any improvements it makes me feel like I’ve wasted my time. I have to keep tract of my progress is one thing I gotta start doing. Nothing motivates me more than improving, in the past I would say I’m the best and believe it with confidence but that lead me to not have a improvement mindset and that hurt me. 2020 big year I’m getting very serious with everything in life

So what? In fact, considering nearly 8 billion people on earth the chance is very high that there is always someone bigger/faster/better than yourself. So comparing to others has to stop and instead you can focus on comparing to your past self and how much you learned from your achievements and even disappointments.

I don't wanna be mean but this is a really shitty explanation. Basically saying : growth mindset good, fixed - not. But what really is either of these? Explain the actual process. Don't tell me all I need to develop my growth mindset is to believe in myself. Have you ever encountered real world problems or are your parents still paying your rent?
@Advo420696 жыл бұрын
theandy4ever did you watch the video? He does explain 3:23, to me the moral of the video is challenge = growth = knowledge = eventual success. Accept challenges, instead of using challenges as excuses, will ultimately lead to a better lifestyle. That's why people like and follow those that have a "go get it" mindset. They are natural leaders.
