In my opinion, a Clone trooper who sees through his programming and realizes the big picture, then goes rogue, is probably one of the most dangerous individuals in the galaxy. A single or a few clones with nothing to lose and everything to gain.... PRIME story telling material.

I know you were just using the Rwpublic Commando story to framework your point, but can I just say(because I think it constantly)... How is the Republic Commando series of novels not MORE heavily loved and known about? Especially at this point in time?? It HEAVILY critiques the Jedi, to the point of calling all of them out on all of their BS. It deals with the concepts of Clones as a slave army and a bunch of child soldiers YEARS before Clone Wars ever tried to broach those subjects. And it was the medium for the creation of the Mandalorian Culture AND Language. This series is FANTASTIC! After the success of Clone Wars, and the later success of the Mandalorian, I was ready for people to discover this series and for it to absolutely explode. And it sadly didn't happen... For everyone who's read the series, tell a friend. For everyone who hasn't, I highly recommend it!! Kandosii, Vode!

this was a great story, my 5yr old is always asking (at least five a weekend) star wars lore questions. she is currently watching the clone wars series with me and pausing it to ask me to fill in blanks, i am have all of my old SW, Battletech and Shadowrun novels from the 80's 90's that she is excited to read - they are her some of her biggest motivators to work on her reading skills. she will probably bully me into reading at least one to her soon... it is fantastic. i appreciate these videos, especially that you actually tie in accurate RW situations, personalities, and literature. i appreciate the research.

I feel like this video was maybe a bit too high concept. Definitely some interesting ideas, and I don't think you're wrong, but your point kinda gets a bit messy after a while. I think it's a shame that Padme's subplot was cut from Revenge of the Sith, because it basically encapsulated the "good guys" trying to push against Palpatine consolidating power, even as they got constant outmaneuvered. It kinda showed what the point of the whole war was besides distracting the Jedi.
@michaelkantner6420Ай бұрын
This was a deeply thoughtful reflection of the similarities and differences between Star Wars, and what really goes on in our world. At times you got really philosophical, which really made me start to think about my own place in this universe. We all wonder "Why are we here, what is our purpose in this life?" Unfortunately, and hopefully those questions only get answered after we pass from this existence to the next.

Sometimes the threat to your country may lie within the leaders for their greed, and sending your loved ones to die for a meaningless cause.
@catboxvideoАй бұрын
yeah, greed of territory, power, dominance, even money if they are under achievers, i seem to remember this document talking about enemies - foreign and domestic, something about it being the right and duty of the people to do something about it.
@kylereed1066Ай бұрын
Great video, really good comparisons to real life events! I do feel a little different about the sequel trilogy though. It doesn't really feel like the New Republic are the "good guys," because they are barely there in the movies. They feel more like a far off government failing their people, which is where the Resistance comes in to try and fight back against the First Order. We don't see the New Republic arguing about building a larger military in the sequel trilogy, just in the books. Its hard to dive deep into the New Republic, when most of the media on them is trying to fix a faction that is not well thought out and developed, especially the on screen side.

How are you getting that interpretation about the New Republic? Their flaw isn't they "aren't militaristic enough", it's that they are complacent and are so focused on moving on that they don't realize the enemy they sacrificed so much to defeat wasn't actually defeated. It's a closer analogy to the current issues with the Alt-Right and the return of other ideologies like Nazis. It's even meant to parallel with Project Paperclip with America sheltering Nazi scientists and supporting other remnants of that regime because it was a way to gain advantage against the next antagonist, the Russians. The New Republic not taking early reports of Imperial remnants seriously is just like how people for the longest time treated Nazis as basically cartoon villains of the past, something without any real support.

Respect for such an excellent video. Trivia and lore are fun but we the audience should always be mindful of the themes and messages that stories and art are trying to convey, to relay to us. After all that is their primary and most important purpose. Congrats on a video well made

I love how you and Generation Tech point out the real life equivalents of what the Star Wars films, books, etc were meant to portray. It's intellectually stimulating and yet depressing all the same because no matter how we might realize what's going on, there's ultimately nothing we can do about it. There just aren't enough people able to see the truth or willing to do anything about it. Even if there were, we lack the equipment necessary.
@wolfleader17Ай бұрын
I like how you touched on Grievous. For the Separatists to appear scary, Palpsy needed an actually scary face to decorate the holonets all over the galaxy. We love the Jedi for their spirituality. We love the clones for their warrior culture. We love our own for their sense of family. Grievous was all of those until he became a tragedy. It didn't take much from there to make it a tragedy for the Republic as well.

The part at the beginning about languages is borrowing from the Sapir-Whorph Hypothesis as well as "The Medium Is The Message" by Marshall McCluhan. If you like the Sci-Fi angle, try reading the classic "Babel 17", which is about a war where a language is developed to alter the reality being perceived by the person who is hearing it being spoken. Enjoy the further reading, great video.

You can’t compare fighting an organized army to fighting cartels and terrorist organizations. It’s so asymmetrical and different because cartels and terrorist organizations don’t wear uniforms so you can’t tell who’s a member and who’s not. But because of that, members of these organizations don’t have the Geneva (convention) checklist to protect them during war
