Pelinka better get on the phone and make some more moves that fix some holes that way at least we might be a play-in team instead of a lottery team with terrible defense. This is ultimately a future move trading what was left of the AD+LeBron timeline(which closed upon getting Westbrook) for the potential of contention for the next decade. Unless Dallas thinks Luka committed some heinous crime or is damaged goods healthwise there is no rational explanation for this move on their end, "conditioning concerns" doesn't cut it.

my guess is, LBJ gonna retire soon, and AD alone is not gonna get Laker anywhere. Luka is the best floor riser in the league, he can easily single handly carry Laker to playoffs, building around him is easy. And also, LBJ is no longer a ball dominant player, I don’t see a huge issue Luka and him pairing with each other, as long as they can figure out the defense.

Luka isn't worth $70 million a year. Always best to trade a player in his prime. Especially a player who cries and complains to refs instead of running back on defense. As a Mavs fan (favorite team in sports) since the 80s, I was getting tired of it. I had already played this trade out in my head. AD, Wemby, Jokic, or Giannis were the 4 players I would have traded Luka for. Luka sells tickets. Defense wins titles. I'll still enjoy watching Luka play. But I'll enjoy another NBA title and championship parade more.

To my mind only a few scenarios make any sense in explaining this. #1 Luka has some sort of underlying injury concerns that had the Mavs spooked and for some bizarre reason the Lakers didn't do their due diligence. #2 Luka did something to piss off Mavs GM/Owners and they reacted irrationally, it still doesn't explain why they didn't get the boat load of picks everyone would have offered. #3 The league actually ordered this trade to keep the Lakers relevant as one of their cash cows. Perhaps they wanted a more direct route to getting the casual eyeballs watching Bron to start watching Luka.

I'd say this is more hype than any of them, other than MJ coming back, of course. If you're old enough, you'd know how crazy hyped everyone was for that. Shaq would've been bigger, too, but at the time, people thought Shaq downgraded teams.

As someone who isn't a fan of either team, I'm not completely shocked. Luka playing with LeBron has been a thing since forever and the reasons the Mavs had for the trade also make sense. They're not sure about Luka's commitment to staying healthy and while AD has health issues of his own, he could form a powerful duo with Kyrie; while LA gets their franchise player for after LeBron is done.

After Dallas made the finals last year, and after picking up Dinwiddie, Marshall, and Grimes, alsong with Lively getting better and better, and with PJ and Gafford - I really thought they could do it this year. Then BOOM this happens. Anthony Davis might improve the team in the short term, maybe enought to win a chip, but that is the BEST BEST case scenario. Davis is injury prone, and so is Irving. With one of them out, this is not a championship team. Man, this is crazy!

This is actually great for basketball. Feel bad for most Mavs fans who were counting on Luka being their ride or die. Luka will be able to be a truer combo guard and Bron can be that combo forward. If you been following, you know DJJ been lighting up recently. Klay showed us a vintage flash. Kyrie arguably should have been an All-Star this year. If they can jive like they did last year (while navigating the void that is Luka’s absence) they’ll be quite alright. AD needs to want to hoop tho, not pull some Embiid antics

One of the reasons I moved to Dallas was Luka. I was searching for his jersey all over the place in 2019 and people would ask who's that guy. I have my season tickets, which I won't renew. Mavs are a very boring organization in terms of entertainment. I worked with Heat and we did amazing things for fans, including meeting the players. I also have a real size poster of Luka in my living. All what I cheer for is gone 😢

This is like Metroid Prime 4 getting shadowdropped on you. I kind of get it. Obviously Cuban has been unable to build a championship winning team around Luka to have had him for all these years. But getting that first round pick tells me that Dallas is really looking to do at least a soft reboot and go a different way. I'm not going to be a Lakers fan, but I am a Luka fan, so it's going to be weird for me to watch him and pull for him, and at the same time in many game situations want the Lakers as a team to lose. It's kind of like if Shohei Ohtani had went to the Yankees. It'd be a lot tougher to pull for him in pinstripes. Same with Luka wearing the yellow. I'm interested to see how the personalities mesh with LeBronny and Luka. LeBron says he has wanted to play with Luka, but we'll see how that actually pans out.

In the long haul, it makes no sense. Either Luka is a nightmare to deal with, or Luka demanded a trade, or he has a hidden injury, like a degenerative issue. In the short term, I actually like the Mavs as a team better than the '24 Lakers. They have size, and that combo of Kyrie and AD will be pretty insane. Idk how the Lakers trade for Luka and NOT give him the keys to the offense, which means LeBron has to play off ball for the first time in his life, really.

@@sidjones16 tbh Mavs got better short term just due to pure fit, and Luka was injured. Ceiling with Luka is higher, but floor with AD is probably better due to fit. But after 2-3 years, thats when it will really suck.
