This henna recipe uses basic ingredients to create safe and deep staining henna stains!
*This recipe calls for Rajastani Henna Powder since it has a dye release time much faster then other henna powders available, therefore saving you time as well!*
For this recipe you will need:
--50 gms (1/2 cup) Rajastani Henna powder
--25 gms (1/8th cup) sugar
--15 ml (1 tablespoon) lavender essential oil (tea tree, eucalyptus and cajeput can also be used, or in combination as well)
--118 ml (1/2 cup) water (half mixed in at different times)
Instructions:
1.) Place all ingredients into a mixing bowl (ceramic is best).
2.) Pour in about 1/4 cup water, a little at a time, until you reach a thick mashed potato like consistency.
3.) cover with plastic wrap and keep in a warm place like the oven (turned off) with the light turned on for warmth, or under a lamp.
4.) Rajastani henna powder is usually ready in about 6-8 hours, if it's really cold it could take longer. One trick is to put a dot on the palm of your hand for 5 mins and wipe off and if its bright orange then its ready (video to come!)
5.)Add the rest of the water until you reach a toothpaste like consistency and then you're ready to use your henna paste!

Dear Gopi Henna! I've just been át a henna course, and what i learned there was a bit different: we also added a bit lemon juice, and we used coffee instead of water. We put all the liquid into the mixture before we let it sit. For me, it wasn't dark enough and it was fading away within a week. It is possible that i made too thin lines or didn't press it well but somehow it wasn't okay. Somehow the cone was strange too. We did it in the same way but from different paper and it is so hard to work with. Please help me. Thank you. If i run out of what's already done i'll try your recipe. 💖

hey Gopi. Whenever I make henna at home, when I apply it, it kind of spreads out on the skin while it's drying. A once thin line becomes a much thicker line, making less and less space between lines. Is there anything I should alter in the recipe to avoid this? Thanks, love your videos!

Coz in con itself it can release it's die further. Moreover u have not used any acidic thing like tea or lemon which helps henna to release it's dye .

happy moments hi! You can use water, lemon, or tea to release the dye with same results for the color--only difference is with lemon the dye release takes longer. With water the paste can be ready in 6-12 hours depending how warm or cold the room is. Hotter weather will make it ready faster. With lemon it could take 12-24 hours to release. Either way color and longevity is the same. With lemon the paste will look more green as well

In India 🇮🇳 we call HENNA as MEHENDI , here all the mixtures are all okk if it works for you, but to give more constant hold to it we use a soak of lady's finger water which is soaked overnight and then it is giving you the kind of texture we want to apply, other than that if anyone has heard about the eucalyptus oil ,sure mostly here people are little bit aware of it , those trees are from Tamil Nadu, Punjab , Haryana , Karnataka, so my point is to say that we Indians mix a table spoon of two for henna mixing , this is why we get accurate with the color theory , it gives us warmth on hands and our body heat gives more of it so combining those two gives a darkest black color ever we thought of , other than that if we don't wanna mix in the henna paste we can directly apply on hands too before applying henna so it gives a smooth surface to work with and it evaporates with fraction of seconds , so mind well and try this trick too Sharing this link just to say this is add on Okk Thanks for reading this information to all 😃 amzn.to/3UOakul ( this is mainly from OOTY situated in Tamil Nadu ) Class A grade quality and no harm using it at all , this oil can be used for other purposes like sinus or cold problems too 😀 😄 🇮🇳🌺🕉🙌

Hi gopi henna I have been following you on instagram for a long time love your designs. Now I have a question I tried to make a henna paste with 100 grams of jamila powder. After dye release I have shifted it to some 20 medium sized cones. But I had a requirement of only 6 to 8 cones so I stored remaining cones in freezer. When I take them after 20days or 1 month I could see the lemon juice or EO has come out slightly from the cones and the henna paste didn’t give the stain which it does before. Now what is the problem where am I missing ?

Beautiful, I am going to try this without the essential oil. A tablespoon of lavender essential oil (EO) is way too much. A tablespoon of EO would be if you were mixing a 30 oz batch. For 50 grams, 3-5 drops EO. For 100 grams it would be 1/8 of a teaspoon. There are guidelines for the safe use of essential oils. While essential oils are used for scent or therapeutic value, as they are both, they can burn the skin or be very drying to the skin. That is, when the safe dose is exceeded.
@GopiHenna
@GopiHenna 4 жыл бұрын
lilybaytoday this is the standard amount as per hundreds of professional henna artists. If you do not use essential oil the stain will be a very faint orange. Many don’t realize high terpinated essential oils are key for achieving a dark stain.

this recipe is for use on the skin, but you can use the same recipe for hair as well but I would just add a couple tiny drops of essential oil and i wouldn't use any sugar

It's better to use distilled water and never hot water, only lukewarm, or it might burn the paste

Personally I use hot water (not boiled) when I need paste immediately, in my experience it makes the henna dye release faster

I used the same recipe with jamila henna powder and after 24 hours my paste still didn’t have any color release.
@GopiHenna
@GopiHenna 6 жыл бұрын
if it's cold it can take longer, jamila has the longest dye release time out of any powder, I would recommend checking every hour after, but note that a lot of times with jamila, the spot test can take 10 minutes to show up. If after 10 minutes it's not a bright orange then wait longer

may i know what is the function adding the sugar? thx
@GopiHenna
@GopiHenna 6 жыл бұрын
IT's to make sure the paste doesn't flake off the skin right away. I also feel it helps the consistency. You don't necessarily need sugar but once the paste dries it will flake off right away, and with natural henna the longer you keep it on, the longer it will last and darker it will be.

Which powder? How long did you let it sit out and do you mean you didn’t use any essential oil? Essential oil is needed in henna for body art

For 50 gram Rajasthani powder I use 15 mls eucalyptus, 25 grams sugar, and around .5 cup liquid you can you water which is a good mix to start. Liquid will depend how thick or thin you like your paste as well as humidity etc. but best rule of thumb I’d say is to start out thicker than you think as it thins out during dye release. You can also test the mix in a mini cone first to see if it need more water. And I also recommend to always have some powder left out so you can add into it if it’s too thin 🙌🙏

You could but the stain will remain orange rather than deepen to the reddish brown tones. You can also try to find eucalyptus or tea tree essential oil as well

Is the essential oil necessary? I’ve got peppermint essential oil. Would that do?
@GopiHenna
@GopiHenna 6 жыл бұрын
You can omit essential oils but the stain will remain in the orange stage and wont full oxidize to the darker red/brown tones. That's what the EO helps with and unfortunately peppermint isn't one of the EOs that helps. The ones that will improve the stain are: eucalyptus, cajeput, lavender or tea tree. The peppermint you could add a couple drops just for fragrance but it doesn't help the stain as far as I know.

Ok so 50g henna powder in cups is 1/4 cup. The measurement seems off. The looks as if there’s way more than 1/4 cup of henna powder. Please help

I used a digital scale to weigh out the powder first maybe 1/4 is a little less than 50 grams, I'm not sure since I use a scale, which is really helpful if you want be exact!

I use the same henna. I sift it five times I use all the same ingredients, but I have trouble with dye release. I notice your henna is green mine is dark brown. I let it sit a bit more than 12 hrs. What do you think I maybe doing wrong ?
@GopiHenna
@GopiHenna 7 жыл бұрын
BAQ (body art quality) henna should always be green! You might have henna powder that is suitable for hair use so there could be other natural powders of herbs and what not in there as well which make it a brown color. You want just pure henna powder with a high lawsone content (dye pigment in henna) to ensure proper dye release and staining ability
