Antibiotics for a fungal infection? NoOOOO. Painkillers absolutely. This happened to me and perforated my eardrum. Most painful thing I've ever experienced. Painkillers for a year as they had to heal it with gentian violet due to the perforation. Then surgery to repair. Ear infections seem so minor but they can actually go into the bone and cause major damage.

I appreciate the effort here - and particularly that he started from the outer ear and then moved inwards...still, the suction tool may not be the optimal tool for scraping the sides...I would have used a straight-edged tool...but again, I appreciate his efforts ..

I would think that scraping the sides would send fungal spores flying everywhere whereas suction will suck those spores right into a sealed container.

Mary, I understand your point.. upon review of the video, I confirmed my thought that the spores are embedded in the debris - and so I believe that scraping would not free them...additionally, given essentially no major air current in the room and even more so in the confined/blocked off region of the ear canal, any freed spores might simply drop inside the ear canal region...unless we have spores that have taken flying lessons!...😊...blessings...

i think often its a money issue. people who cant afford a procedure might hold off until it essentially becomes unbearable. Or it also could be an age issue where the person struggles to get out and have these type of things done.

it happened to me! And I'm VERY on top of my health. Was the summer before my senior year of college. It doesn't take long to form. And mine was masked by OTHER ear infectons so they kept debriding with water which made it worse. A week or two later and boom..perforated eardrum with fungal infection. Most painful, long road. Can lead to facial paralysis or worse as infection spreads to the bone.

I'm currently on day 3 or 4 of eardrops and hoping that I can get my hearing back. It looks much better and there are no spores, but there seems to be gunk deep in my ear making it hard to hear still. I want so badly to irrigate it but I'm scared to make it worse...I hope that stuff comes out and doesn't stay there.
