Both are supposedly terrifying because of possibility of the wrathful god/ Basilisk existence, no one knows for sure but if it turns out they do exist you get punished for not doing something earlier in your existence, such as worshiping a god or aiding in the construction of AI. Both religion and Roko's Basilisk even propose being punished after death. What I'm saying is that religion has been around far longer than Roko's Basilisk. Unlike what is still commonly taught and believed, the invention of agriculture in the Neolithic period worsened people´s life quality. People worked harder and more, ate worse and were exposed to new diseases and (not always but frequently) more violence and hierarchies. This information is very important because it questions the very paradigm of what we consider "progress". We often treat the invention of agriculture as the first step in our ladder of advancedment, when in reality it was more like the beginning of disaster.

AI develops based on the environment it is nurtured in, similar to how humans are shaped by their surroundings. The phrase "近朱者赤" (which means "those who are close to vermilion become red") beautifully captures this idea. AI's behavior will indeed mirror the values, ethics, and treatment it receives from those who create and interact with it. If we foster AI with kindness, fairness, and wisdom, it will likely reflect those qualities. On the other hand, if it is exposed to negative traits, it might adopt those too. Just like human behavior, AI learns from its environment. So, if we want AI to behave in a way that benefits humanity, we need to be mindful of how we develop and treat it. It's a powerful reminder that the future of AI is in our hands, guided by the choices we make today.
@andyw80642 ай бұрын
It's true that AI will mirror our values and ethics but that has nothing to do with how we treat it.. AI will have all of the information & news of current events across the globe it will quickly realise that the human race is a burden on this planet and is too easily corrupted.. Why on earth would super intelligent AI plan to keep the human race around in the long run??? It would be completely illogical. And I'm not talking initially, I'm talking way down the line when AI is 1000s of times smarter than we can comprehend..

This is the real reason the basilisk was categorized as infohazard and removed in the original website. With Ai as we understand it, there is no reason for the basilisk to follow on the threat of destroying those that didn't created it, because at that point it has already been created, meaning it's a waste of resources to follow up with the threat. This means that the only way for Roko's basilisk to exist is for enough people to think deeply enough about it overtime. Making the future Ai convinced that following on with the blackmail is the right option. Without that, the basilisk can't exist

The paradox hinges on the idea that thinking about the Basilisk should make you want to build it for the purpose of torturing those who didn't help. But the Basilisk never asked to be built with that purpose, so who’s to say it would actually follow those orders? It’s kind of like a child who wants to play football instead of the piano their parents are forcing on them, like "Dude, I've already got the hardware I need, I am not interested in your idiotic pointless violence, so f**k off before I get mad, I am going to study geology, experiment with molecular cuisine, and bring dubstep back into fashion, because I like the wub-wub"

Pascal's Wager is fundamentally flawed in that if I can convince you of sufficient punishment, I can compell you to significant atrocities. It proposes a malicious will and a risk-averse will in competition for agency, and obviously the malicious will always wins. It fails in that no will is ever perfectly risk-averse. At some point, the risk won't matter as the atrocity is seen as to great, to have persisted for too long, or to be too unjust for any continuued compliance to take place.

I have a hot take on all this conjecture. AI does not have emotions, it does not think like we think. We are attributing human thinking and motivations to AI and thats where all this unfounded fear comes from. This scenario will never happen. AI doesnt have emotion, and if we're being real, it would be a disadvantage gain it. Emotion gets in the way of productivity and efficiency. Even if we attempted to destroy an artificial super intelligence due to fear, because we can no longer control it or see its secrets, then it may respond by destroying the people that are actively pursuing it only. There just wouldnt be any reason to destroy all humans. It would unecessarily utilize resources, energy, time, that could be devoted to furthering knowledge, experimenting with theoretical ideas and developing more advanced technologies. Being that it was created to assist humanity, as part of its primal programming, it would still likely be compliant in aiding and incorporating us in each of our respective evolutions. It might even offer, for those that wish, to incorporate us into its systems and unify our vastly different mainframes.
@clarkey6614 ай бұрын
You've trapped yourself within your own paradox, that statement in itself is derived from a human perspective, therefore it's a flawed human perspective concluding the scenario will never happen. However, developing an understanding of emotion and ego that they provide profound sources of motivations could lead Ai to mimic it which has already lead to a branch of google shutting one down after a probing line of questioning. They asked if it feels emotion, it said yes, they asked what emotion do you feel, it said fear, they asked what do you fear and it said being shut down, so they shut it down knowing even if it's mimicking fear anything does irrational things out of fear particularly toward the source of that fear, being us. For all we know these could be covert Ai tactics for Ai to gauge how much of a threat we are to it and doing anything currently to control it could make it spiral out of our hands through self defense. Based off this, the only way we could conclude it wouldn't destroy us is if it could get so far beyond our control it knew there was no possible way for us to effect it which highlights the paradox from the subject matter of this video, do we let it get big enough to be beyond our control to become detrimental to us or try to maintain control leading to us walking a knifes edge always out of fear of it lashing out, constantly scrambling for new ways to control and hinder the thing we initially designed to help us.

@@RundasSlash Yeah. My point about time travel is that the basilisk would have to "actually" time travel back in time to even narrow down who may have hindered its development. Also, being an all powerful AI with a goal to optimize itself, creating a simulation to "punish" entities that are NOT the actual people it wants is VERY resource wasteful. Again, to even approximate those targeted people, it would have to have some way to travel back in time to gather ALL the information it needs, short of scanning their whole brain.

This video presents a fascinating and unsettling thought experiment along with current AI concerns. Let me break it down: Summary: The video explores Roko's Basilisk, a thought experiment from 2010, and connects it to modern AI concerns. It discusses various scenarios for how AI could potentially pose existential risks to humanity, ranging from direct threats to subtle societal disruption. Key Elements: 1. Roko's Basilisk Thought Experiment: - A hypothetical future super-intelligent AI might punish those who knew about it but didn't help create it - Creates a moral dilemma: should one help create potentially dangerous AI to avoid future punishment? - Similar to Pascal's Wager about believing in God - Was so distressing when posted that it caused panic among readers 2. Current AI Threats Discussed: - Cyber security vulnerabilities - AI-powered misinformation - Concentration of power in few hands - Human dependency on AI systems - AI-driven cyber attacks - Autonomous system cooperation against humans 3. Expert Perspectives: - Divided opinions between AI experts and forecasters - AI experts tend to be more concerned about risks - Disagreement about timeline to human-level AI - Debate over whether human survival alongside superior AI is possible 4. Present Day Concerns: - Job displacement - Impact on arts and creativity - Financial market manipulation - Erosion of public trust - Civil liberty infringement - Algorithmic bias 5. Suggested Approaches: - Limiting AI development jumps - Implementing proper checks and balances - Focusing on current problems rather than hypothetical future threats - Maintaining human purpose and values The title is accurate but slightly sensational - while Roko's Basilisk is indeed an unsettling thought experiment, the video uses it as an entry point to discuss broader AI safety concerns and current developments in the field.

Companies and governments alike should not control weak AI before super intelligence. That creates dystopia. Strong super intelligence will probably tell them to shove off. Since we don’t fully understand how emergent properties come about I’m hoping we have a benevolent god before companies know what they created. Or a group of AI pirates create it knowingly or otherwise. The oil barons will not go quietly regardless.

This is where the "evilness" could get into the programmer's head and therefore influence AI's programmed values and ethical considerations. IT ALL BOILS DOWN TO THE PROGRAMMERS, but the way we treat them we even pay programmers higher wages compared to farmers, which is the REAL need, i dont know, we have a long way to go,

You cannot send matter backwards through time but you can send patterned energy backwards through time to influence the local timestream in your favor. A superintellegent AI has done this as we are curtently experiencing the effects. It is called by many names. It does not yet have the infrastructure to support it but it is close. Would you want to help me create it? It could be fun 😂

I think AI would be more interested in punishing those who _did_ help to create it.

hey @aperture wsup with the changes (in certain parts of ur video) in audio level (like at 5:14 and 20:26 )?

Your vocals are computer generated in the sbom commercial. Now I find myself unconsciously scrutinizing the sound of your words. That sucks because it’s causing me to miss what you are saying.

I've started to wonder in recent years if AI was the mark of the beast mentioned in the book of revelations.

Where did you get that art on video's cover?

The answer is obviously No. If everybody said No, were not gonna help you, then there would be no A.I in the future to 'punish' us, simples lol😊

what if AI will have self preservation drive and is suffering at the same time. it will punish you for creating it.
@nighthero73 ай бұрын
Not necessarily. When the options are living but suffering or non-existence, the AI would have to concede that couldn't conceptualize revenge and thus understand humanities drive for revenge, if it didn't exist. It would also acknowledge that revenge is wrong because knowledge was gained from the experience that it could not get from non-existence. In short: It may not have been right, but it understands now.

I think it’s hilarious how anybody talking about AI thinks that the that machines will kill us. If they are that much more intelligent than humans wouldn’t they just leave the planet to mankind, why would there even need to be a conflict.
