Just to clarify I said a wrong note in the video! The chord is B F (not D) A D sorry about that! 😃 Robin

One of my favourite chords of all times. Usually I use it as a passing chord, but sometimes you can even end a song with this chord. So it's like ending in a suspense

Thanks Brother! I just picked up my guitar and was able to Improvise a decent chord melody for the first time in my life. I really haven't gone much further than the first 10 pages of the Mickey Baker Jazz Guitar book. And I did learn to play good "Sock Rhythm" from the book, but I never could Improvise chord melodies. Sometimes all it takes is the one missing piece of the puzzle.

I should've paid much more attention to theory but back in the 1960's a few chords played 75% of the music. Not that I've evolved (aged) I' m left out. I can mimick a lot so I "ain't givin' up"....! Thank you Robin

Great lesson! Of course, you're exploiting the fact that Bm7b5, Dm6, and G9 (without the root) are inversions of each other, so any shape you learn for one of these chords can be used for the other two.
@GypsyJazzSecrets7 жыл бұрын
That's it mate! 😃

Except nobody ever uses it except as a Bm7b5. If I was playing real book in my jazz band and I used that as a Dm6 or G9, I’d probably get a thump.

you said that the same shape can be considered minor 6 in one context or minor 7/-5 in other context. What this concept is called in music theory ? I would like to learn more about this concept . I bet there are more shapes that in different contexts serve as different chords.
@GypsyJazzSecrets6 жыл бұрын
rafapak not sure the official name but it’s a multi use chord. In the the Dm6 the root is in top. In the Bm7-5 the root is on the bottom. Cheers! Robin 🎸❤️
