He was a very powerful baller with even greater potential, but he had a huge disadvantage. He was in the Jordan era.

I enjoyed this, thank you! Kemp is my all time favourite player, his style, abilities and his dunking was amazing! I even have a green and yellow 40 tattooed on my right thigh!! Even now at 44yrs old I still obsessively buy Sonics merch! This Christmas I got a Sonics Oodie and lace up jersey from Simply Seattle and after seeing how cool that one was, I got a Bulls one from TAASS and ordered a Sonics Pennant alongside it!! I doubt that admiration and childhood love will ever dissipate so I always enjoy seeing little documentaries like this....appreciate it! 😄👍

Kemp definitely shook the world until after the 99' NBA Lockout. When he came back fat and out of shape....
@ronaldcrisostomo758912 сағат бұрын
That was the start of his downfall. He admitted that he thought that there wont be another season because of how long the lockout lasted that time

1:06 notice Alton Lister sitting next to Michael Cage. Alton Lister played 3 seasons with the Supersonics before joining the Warriors. Kemp dunked on Lister in 1992 12:35.

You forgot Hall of Famer Moses Malone...should be mentioned as he also straight to the pros from high school.
@TheHoopsStories6 сағат бұрын
Moses Malone indeed turned pro straight from high school. But he didn’t join the NBA but… the ABA!
@ThisIsJBird5 сағат бұрын
@@TheHoopsStories Haha yes, I acknowledged those specifics when making the comment. In any case Moses is safe to say the most revered OG from those days who made a then-rare HS to Pro move, and eventually WOULD be in the NBA because of the ABA's decline.

First pair of baller kicks wasn’t Js back in the day coz i couldn’t afford em.. rather I settled for Kemp’s Kamikazes I believe it was called. Still remember him posterizing Antoine Carr. And Kemp pointing at Lister was referenced on NBA Live 95 😅

I have mine since about 26 years, thats what i have left from my best friend passing away when we where young, it was his brothers Jersey, and he was a huge Kemp Fan, i was Always hiding it, because i didnt want his big bro to know i have it, because somehow i really loved the Jersey, then my friend passend away, and many years later i told his older brother, that i still have the jersey. Nothing but big ❤ for Kemp 40❤

@TheHoopsStories17 сағат бұрын
A great and spectacular player indeed! However, with a career average of 12.0 PPG, it's hard to say he convinced NBA teams to bet on high school players in particular. On the other hand, Shawn Kemp paved the way for Kevin Garnett, and then to Kobe Bryant, and others

Moses Malone went straight from HS to the NBA. Your facts are wrong.
@TheHoopsStoriesКүн бұрын
No he did not. Moses Malone went straight from high school to the ABA in 1974 before joining the NBA in 1977. So, he did not join the NBA straight from high school.
@InCognito-sassКүн бұрын
@@TheHoopsStories The point is, he never went to college. He went straight to the pros...
@TheHoopsStoriesКүн бұрын
And, we never said the opposite? We said that two players went straight from high school to the NBA before Shawn Kemp. The facts are not “wrong”. Moses Malone went straight to the pros, but to the ABA. He is not part of the list of NBA high school draftees.
@InCognito-sassКүн бұрын
@@TheHoopsStories The ABA was bought and merged into the NBA, their history is shared. Just like the NFL-AFL merger.
@TheHoopsStoriesКүн бұрын
No, their history isn’t shared. ABA players stats are not included in NBA stats. ABA titles are not counted as NBA titles. Anyway, it seems like we will not agree tonight! But thank you for watching 🙂

lol Kemp had a horrible attitude, he was a nottoriously HORRIBLE student, and he didn't win any big games like Woody did. Woody was also a good student, had a great attitude, averaged almost a dozen more points per game, and his team was ranked in the top 3 all year. Team. Not a hot dog singular player. THAT'S why Woody won. Then his brother Chad like 4 years later. I went ot school with Chad and am still friends with the Austins to this day. Both of them and their families! Go Runnin Red Devils
