[Link in description] Looking for a horn that lives up to the hype? Mike Del Quadro's "The Mother" is truly a mother of a trumpet. This is a large horn. The electro-formed copper bell is 5.5 inches in diameter with a beautifully tapered flare. I love the sound of this horn, and a lot of that has to do with the bell Mike uses.
The horn also has a large, wide-open leadpipe and unbraced tuning slide. The Getzen valve block is one of the best in the world. The braces between the bell and leadpipe are stress free point-to-point braces, and they're well positioned. Brace position makes big difference in how a horn plays. The long bell tail ferrule helps center the sound. There's no brace between the valve block and bell, which also opens up the feel of the horn.
The aesthetic might make this look like it's just for the jazz soloist, but there's a lot of versatility to this design. Articulations are clean and precise. The feel of the blow is incredibly open, it feels like you're just sighing into the horn. With a more commercial mouthpiece setup it will light up in the upper register.
