I think my 13 year old brain amalgamated all these rules into something workable in 1996. If something prevented carnage, or slowed the game down, it was usually ignored!

The 2nd Ed movement phase rules were covered in 4 pages. 2 of those pages were solely dedicated to the rules for Hiding, something that I nor anyone I ever knew ever actually used because they didn't make any sense. I love this game.

This is exactly why older rulesets of wargames are flat out better than the modern cancer. Wargaminging is absurd, silly and a bit of fun, the writers knew that then. Do they now?

This is how it was in Fantasy and that's how we liked it! But for real Fantasy is a rank and flank game, a lot of the weirdness seems to come from GW trying to just use rank and flank rules for a skirmish game

At the end of 2nd edition, my group's binder of house rules were thicker than the rule book itself. It was the most glorious edition. The name for the house rules was "Xth edition", with the number going up every time we changed it. The final name was 137th edition. (When Codex: Shittyfight came out during 3rd edition we also went back to 2nd edition for a while as we lost all hope for 3rd)

I grew up reading my Dad's 2nd edition Codexes, and I always adored the art style of classic Games Workshop, so I love seeing somebody make videos on this era!

Really interesting seeing how different the game was. I joined a little later and picked up 40k in 4th edition and my nostalgic heart knows no other love than 5th. Play a game every now and with some like minded pals.
