Some new aircraft will be coming to Canada in the future.
The MQ-9 Reaper is the primary offensive strike unmanned aerial vehicle for the U.S. Air Force but soon able to be added to Canadian Air force capability. Given its significant loiter time, wide-range sensors, multi-mode communications suite, and precision weapons -- it provides a unique capability to perform strike, coordination, and reconnaissance against high-value, fleeting, and time-sensitive targets.
Reapers can also perform the following missions and tasks: intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, close air support, combat search and rescue, precision strike, buddy-laser, convoy/raid overwatch, route clearance, target development, and terminal air guidance.
The Reaper is part of a remotely piloted aircraft system. A fully operational system consists of several sensor/weapon-equipped aircraft, ground control station, Predator Primary Satellite Link, and spare equipment along with operations and maintenance crews for deployed 24-hour missions.
Hope you enjoy!!

I hope that in the longer term HALE (High Altitude, Long Endurance) UAVs like the Global Hawk and Triton will see Canadian service as well, as these can move faster to areas requiring surveillance, cover a larger area and can stay up considerably longer.

Good drones, unfortunately they are unarmed (at least for now). Great for surveillance, not so much for putting rounds on target. Would need another asset for that.

Flying in cold air isn't the problem. It's the icing conditions at lower altitudes.
@woltews
@woltews 4 ай бұрын
@416to613 at least in the far north the air is normally extremely dry as most of the water is in solid form and that which is a liquid is cold and cold water dosnt form a vapore as well as warm water ( relative humidity is based on the % of water vapor in the air compared to its maximum holding capability but at 0C one kilogram of air can hold under 1g of water so the relative humidity looks quite high but in reality there is almost no water in the air )
@416to613
@416to613 4 ай бұрын
@woltews Icing conditions are dependent on season and latitude. We aren't just concerned about exclusively operating them in cold Arctic air. Icing conditions off Nova Scotia, for example, are bad enough that OEMs often do icing trials there with new aircraft.
@woltews
@woltews 4 ай бұрын
@@416to613 but the concern was operating them in conditions peculate to Canada they have already been operated in areas like Washington state and Michigan and the American north-east cost ( ok I tried looking up what the ice accumulations on Gander were but found no data but I find that actually Washington -BC - Alaska ( especially Alaska !) are generally considered the worst for aircraft icing as the air rises rapidly due to the mountains with accumulations of up to 2 inches and ice building up on prop blades flying off and hitting the fuselage as reported by pilots )

My favourite was the Canadair "Peanut" I also worked with DRES in Suffield in the 1980's when Canada was looking to build their own "RPAS" as they were known. We did a arty shoot using a TV camera on the drone. Also my MWO was in the battery that used rocket launched drones in the 1960's which flew off the back of a Deuce and flew a pre-programmed flight taking pictures using a mechanical time. Which then crashlanded back behind our lines and the film developed.

You should do a video on your awards that you’ve gotten in both militaries, and other forms of recognition (like how the US gives Coins). Also how you got them, and which award you are most proud of. Maybe even which awards/skill badge (like airborne) you strive for. Maybe talk about stuff like if the awards transferred/converted. Going over the awards given by both nations and maybe comparing to US counterparts. This is something that you could easily keep on the back burner to please the algorithm by maintaining upload frequency.

Global Hawk. Its much larger and more capable, just not armed. It would be a much better platform to use for surveillance and monitoring of our north. The problem is it would cost more. I can see why the reaper was a good choice. It's much more flexible and would be the absolute best bang for the few bucks the CAF can spend.

Alert is a station, not an Arctic Surveillance program. This variant operates at 60000' it can already survive Arctic cold...its the complete lack of sat coverage and need for Canadian defense pork for PQ. At best this will fly out of Cold Lake and most of the hardpoints will be occupied by fuel tanks. They should already be flying them for MarPat to develop the necessary skill sets before the "Canadianization" commences IMO

Yeah, if the U.S. should give any country a break on the price of military equipment, it should be Canada. Literally anything Canada does in terms of National defense, is in America’s best interest. I can’t think of a country in the world that is more in line with American interest’s and especially national security! Our apologetic brothers to the north may not always love our foreign policy, but a threat to America is a threat to Canada and vise versa.

While true, Canada benefits from the massive US military. To the point, where Canada doesn’t have to spend nearly as much on its own military for a country that size. As attacking Canada’s mainland is technically an attack against the US.

There's some skepticism on the air side with this purchase. HALE drones would have been better for Arctic surveillance. Collaborative Combat Aircraft would have been better for close support and attack drones with higher survivability and automation. This fleet will not fulfill either role well.

Well you have to admire the Iranian drones, cheap and cheerful, proving quite deadly by the Russians. The West spent a fortune on high tech drones costing millions and the Iranians have shown low tech works as good. Even the idea of combining global positioning system with pre-programed targeting makes blocking the drones impossible and is superior to Western drones in the simplicity of the Iranian drones. Thrown together with moped engines from Hungry, even have swarm effect to overwhelme Ukrainian defence costing the price of a small family car, got to be the best. The Ukrainians used off the shelf tech which first proved deadly and their naval version of coverting Jet Ski's have taken out warships. Now we have on cheap air forces in Africa used by various forces including terrorists, it has changed warfare forever and can be so cheap. We in the West will be forced into retraining and adopting new tech where the Russians have the edge. Much of our high tech tanks, APCs etc. have proved useless and now the Russians can deploy them long range HIMAs etc. are redundant, so it seems are our naval ships as well!

Canada just opened up a new department for the public health too, so you may want to request that department just so you know your getting the best, most up to date technology in keeping you healthy.
