When I first moved to Socal from Ohio, the Muffs were playing in Long Beach, but I was only 20, and it was a 21 and over bar. My boyfriend and I went around the back of the bar and the band was out there. That lovely bad-ass singer told the bouncers I was her sister so I could get in and watch the show. Fucking love them, and love her so much!

@dani cali I think you are mistaken in your presumption. You don't have to be 21 to see a show in the states. You have to be 21 to enter an establishment whose primary business is serving alcohol. Or you can enter with a parent or legal guardian accompanying and in that case, you can be served alcohol as well with their permission. The OP is recalling a show in a bar many years ago when the band was so hungry they would actually play venues that were 21 or older. Not much money in shows like that because there isn't room for many people. Most shows are not in 21 or older venues like taverns. Been to lots of shows before I was 21 and so have my own children before they turned 21. I played guitar in a band that opened for the Muffs about 25 years ago in Milwaukee. It was a designated concert venue that had several bars serving alcohol within the building but was an all ages show. I was 16 at the time and was the oldest one in the band. We not only got in, we played and stayed for the Muffs and probably half the audience was under 21.

I asked her how to correctly pronounce her name and she was so sweet about it and said that it gets mispronounced all the time. She signed a postcard for me and I let her take the sippie cup free of charge (duh!). Truly an icon. TRULY! RIP Kim Shattuck. 💖💜❤️💙🖤💛💚🧡

frarfarf It’s weird I remember that time & know what you mean, because their songs are pop punk and high calibre at that.
