We do, we really do. As for her actual comment. Pyramids were build by an artisan class specialized in building them supported by seasonal workers. Given this was a religious duty slaves were at best sparingly used. It would be like forcing a servant to pray for you by proxy, it just doesn't work that way. We have payment records of the workers. We know they had their own healthcare system and with the time it took to build the monuments, their own towns at the edge. Here their families lived with the same doctors. When they died they were buried with great honor but with limited funds. They were probably well respected. As for how they did it, we don't know. Not because we have no idea but because we don't know which of the myriad methods they specifically used. Was it impressive? Certainly. Was it impossible? Not remotely. We've always been smart and it was just a lot of back breaking hard work. Water and levers are your friend.

Just the other day I rewatched "Blast from the Past." I hadn't seen it since it came out in the 90s, but I remembered it being good. It wasn't. It's very thin on story and relies on some pretty contrived nonsense to work...but it was still a very enjoyable film because Fraser just radiates charisma. Even when the material is very weak, he's so enjoyable to watch. He definitely deserved better.

@@chand911 Acting against empty space that will later be filled in with CGI has been done for nearly 100 years? Excuse me? No. The Mummy was actually one of the first movies to make such extensive use of CGI, and was very experimental in that regard. Now it is common for actors to act against nothing, but when they were making The Mummy, Fraser was treading new ground.

"Don’t stick your hand in unknown holes." I really wouldn't say this version of The Mummy is a Halloween movie, but I'm glad we got a reaction for it none-the-less because I *LOVE* this movie. It's one of those movies you can watch over and over again. I must have seen this movie a dozen or 2 times at least. It's just...fun. "This gives me Indiana Jones and Uncharted vibes" The Brendan Frasier Mummy was heavily inspired by the look and feel of Indiana Jones, Uncharted also drew inspiration from both and similar action/adventure stories of the same kind. 6:30 Fun fact, Brendon Frasier was choked out and some stories say he was dead for 14 seconds from filming this scene, due to no protective gear. I miss Stephen Sommers. It was pretty rare to have a writer/director at the helm of your tentpole film. Because he had a clear vision of his project from the start, he was always able to give way more than his budget would allow. And I don't care if the CGI was not perfect. Also, Sommers' women are always beautiful, classy, smart and tough. His love of 30s/40s cinema also shines in that aspect.

"The Mummy" (1999) is much more action/ comedy than horror--that's certainly true. I went to the theater expecting to see a horror movie in 1999 when I first saw "The Mummy," and the fact that my expectations were so confounded really put me off on this film for a long time. I had to rediscover it many years later before coming to fully appreciate it for what it is, as I do now.

It's a *monster* movie, not a *horror* movie. There's actually not that much crossover between the two genres, and that does tend to throw off some horror fans that expect horror in monster movies. Monster movies are usually just action movies featuring large, deadly creatures/groups of creatures, or dramas centered around an abomination. There's generally very little psychological terror involved. Monster movies just get lumped into the horror genre the way sci-fi and fantasy - two separate and unrelated genres - always are.
