The Muppets Are In Trouble At Disney World

The Disney Hollywood Studios Muppets show and land are in serious danger of being replaced in the near future. Walt Disney World the Muppets land is currently situated right in between two Star Wars lands. It is likely that eventually the Walt Disney World Muppets land will be replaced in favor of more Star Wars rides to connect the two lands. But what does that mean for the Muppets Disney World land and Muppet Vision 3D? To be honest, the future of Disney Hollywood Studios the Muppets is unclear. However, in this video I do pitch an idea for how the Muppets Walt Disney World could be reincorporated into Disney Hollywood Studios.

I'm happy to see the Muppets still putting up such big numbers in the current day, but I really wish Disney would do more with them. The occasional movies are always successful and even people who don't think about the Muppets daily like I do, still love the Muppets when a new movie comes out.

When I went to Hollywood studios it was basically empty apart from one cast member. The reason is because it’s just tucked away and I had trouble finding it. It makes sense to get rid of it.

I can attest for this. Last time I was there the park was mobbed. Everything had an hour wait and I even waited about 3 hours for Tower of Terror. And yet, Muppet Vision was a walk on and theater was not even full. It's time is up for sure.

As much as I fear that Disney will one day shutdown Muppet Vision 3D, I'll admit that it's becoming more and more of an inevitability. Being sandwiched between a ride and an entire land based on the biggest film franchise in history pretty much sealed its fate. Though I'll miss the ride, and to a lesser extent Mama Melrose, and to a MUCH lesser extent, PizzaRizzo, I do think that Muppet fans and Disney fans, alike, would gain more then they would lose if Disney did what you described. Especially when you remember there's a huge swath of land right behind Star Wars Launch Bay that they can turn into an entire Muppets Land. I really love your idea of Disney reviving the The Great Muppet Movie Ride concept for such a land. Especially if they could exploit another loophole in Universal's Marvel contract, and make Muppet versions of MCU movies. An MMCU, if you will.

The only problem with the Launch Bay thing, is that part of that backstage area is utilized for the ODV department (popcorn, churros, Mickey bars, etc). Not sure about all of it, but that's part of it

Super smart idea, I'd love to see this happen! I'd also be okay with them saving some cash by just moving MuppetVision to the 4D theater at the Imagination Pavilion - no one would be upset about the Disney and Pixar short films going away, 'Muppet Labs' sort of fits in with themes of imagination and innovation, and they've already had the Muppet Mobile Lab roam around that area

The only problem right now with the "puppet themed land" is the Disney Junior Dance Party that currently resides in the large building has no puppets. There are 2 costumed characters and everything else is entirely screen based.

I would throw my full support behind a Great Muppet Movie Ride attraction in the Studios park. I never thought about building it behind the Star Wars Launch Bay building; it's not a bad idea! In my little imagineering concepts, I toyed with replacing Star Tours with GMMR just because it's so close in proximity (and similar in experience) to Smuggler's Run. Kind of feels redundant to remain as is. However it is very unlikely to get removed, let alone replaced with a Muppet attraction. I know there's also an expansion plot in the parking lot behind Mama Melrose's Restaurant that could house the GMMR show building, so that's another option if they kept Muppets Courtyard as is and decided to expand it. Another idea I had was to retheme Star Tours with Muppets characters, and have it be a parody ride. Something like "Star Tours: The Muppets Strike Back." Since the Muppets Haunted Mansion proved that these characters are great when used within existing Disney properties, I think Disney should explore having the Muppets involved in a Star Wars crossover. Historically the Muppets have many ties to the original Star Wars trilogy/franchise, there's so much unexplored potential!

Current Disney Parks Operations CM and hopeful Imagineer here, offering my personal feedback based solely on my experience and it is not at all reflective of the Walt Disney Company. Your idea? Spectacular. Incredible. I love it. Logistically... It's not the most feasible, given the layout of DHS. The Great Movie Ride used a LOT of space. Way more than Launch Bay takes up. The Animation Building behind Launch Bay would have to be demolished, along with a lot of other backstage stuff, like training buildings and a parking garage, to make way for the space necessary for a ride of GMR's size. Those backstage buildings are still in use for a lot of behind the scenes stuff that goes on. Hollywood Studios doesn't have a lot of backstage area, so it needs to make use of what it has, and those buildings are very vital to the leadership and training within the park! My solution? Sam the Eagle Presents The Hall of Presidents. Combine what we loved about "Great Moments in History" with Hall of Presidents to make it a truly entertaining show! Imagine Fozzy saying "I'm Teddy Roosevelt, ehh! Get it? Wocka wocka!" or Miss Piggy going full Jackie Kennedy. We can keep all the old animatronics and still have the current president give a speech, but let the Muppets narrate and pop in, maybe even have the presidents interact with the Muppets a little. A good refresh to a classic attraction that needs help bringing more people in.

Would love to see the Muppets expand and get a full land somewhere your idea is a good one and leaves it open to expand it to the remaining show venues if they wanted in future. Wouldn’t mind seeing an entire muppetland take over that courtyard area as a whole. Another idea would probably be unpopular, but if they wanted to get rid of IPs they don’t own and revamp rides like they have at other parks, the end of Sunset Boulevard could become a Muppet land. Tower of Terror is a hotel run by the Muppets and their hijinks cause the elevator to go crazy. RnR becomes a Muppet studio with Electric Mayhem, and could add a dark ride, maybe even Great Muppet Movie Ride next to it where the Cars theatre is. As much as I’d hate to lose the current Tower of Terror it could be a fun change that would still fit.

I always thought they should remove Star Tours from Hollywood Studios. It’s not well attended and the comedic theming doesn’t fit with the Galaxy Edge rides. It works well in Tomorrowland at Disneyland, but not Hollywood Studios. I would honest just redo that whole section of Hollywood Studios from Indian Jones, to Star Tours, to Muppet 3D. There are more exciting attractions now days.

Muppets 3D is too much of park staple of Hollywood Studios to get rid of so it would be logical to move it to another part of the park if Disney wants to merge the two Star Wars themed lands into one. Disney Junior show could prominently feature Muppet Babies and Little Mermaid could be changed to a Muppet Show with skits that prominently feature the Bunraku and Blacklight. In fact, there was a skit like that on the original Muppet show.

I think Launch Bay would be great for being turned into a new mupets ride, but why not make that whole area the mupets? I was at Hollywood Studios two weeks ago and that section of the park was empty, both shows closed, and just looked sad. Bringing the mupet section over would keep it in the park but now that section of the park can go towards a new Star Wars attraction....probably a Mandalorian ride and meet and greet area

Disney made a Muppets special where they parody The Haunted Mansion ride for Disney Plus recently. Also Kermit made an appearance in an episode of Amphibia so I imagine that Disney is going to make more Muppet related content in the future.

If they're going to get rid of this show, move it elsewhere. If they want to get rid of it all together why not do "Muppet Show Live". I'm not talking about bringing back the short lived show that they had in the park until the early 90s called "Here Come the Muppets." Instead of costumed characters they could use real puppets and pre-recorded bits like they did at Disneyland over the holidays. They could do old Muppet Show bits and new ones too. The show could evolve over time and the scripts could easily be updated from time to time. There are new heads at Muppet Studios and they are keen on rebooting this brand. That would be a good way to do it. Electric Mayhem could even be the house band, leading into the launch of the series and sparking renewed interest in the brand, while bringing something new to the parks.

i was thinking it would be cool if they kept muppet vision and replaced star tours with the muppets movie ride and turned that whole area into an actual muppet land we don't need star tours anymore, we have smuggler's run which is basically the same thing but better because it's interactive, and i think muppetvision should stay because it's historic AND iconic. it was the last thing jim worked on and everyone still loves it and disney KNOWS that everyone loves it because there are references to it in their new muppet restaraunt at epcot that opened like 2 years ago. i know this will never happen but i think it would be really cool

Okay… Little Mermaid will not be coming back, Disney has even stated that and Launch Bay originally was going to be Runaway Railway with GMR being updated presumably to a newer, fresher version with movies today’s generation are familiar with and films that Disney actually owns. Personally, that’s what I would have done so that GMR stays but just make a slight change to the name from THE Great Movie Ride to DISNEY’S Great Movie Ride.

When it comes to Hollywood Studios, I’ve always thought they should get rid of Fantasmic. Yes, it’s a great show, but I think only runs once per evening and that’s only if weather permits. The attraction takes up an enormous amount of property for something that’s seldom used. They could build an entire new land with 2 or 3 rides in that space. It would better serve the park. Im not saying Fantasmic should go away entirely, I think it would be better somewhere else. They should really build a theater and museum district at Disney World, something for guests to do that’s outside of the park experience and that’s not nearly as physically demanding as walking these parks and Disney Springs all day. Something like sleep in, have lunch, take a swim at the pool, go to the theater at night. Or, sleep in, go to the museum for a few hours and see all of it, have a nice dinner then back to the room. That would be a good alternative

NOOO please dont I love this show. Muppet Vision 3d is probaly my Favorite show in Disneyworld but I agree its days are numbered. I will miss this show if it goes away but I see why they will get rid of it the problem is the muppets show dosen't take up that much space.

Ok this situation is like the situation for shrek 4d cause it has that outdated ride system i don't think the muppets aren't that popular anymore Soooooooo i can't wait to see a movie on kermit and friends packing there bags and leaving disney This land is just getting to old. PS. there is not even a meet and greet there any more so for the kids that's lameeeeeeeeee

I think this, Star Wars launch bay, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast live on stage are the most likely for replacement by a long shot. I think they can replace the muppet theatre with more Star Wars, replace launch bay with a great muppet movie ride like you said, replace Little Mermaid with maybe a simulator ride themed to the Incredibles along with a meet and greet area, and replace Beauty and the Beast with perhaps maybe a Wall-E attraction similar to lightning mcqueen’s racing academy. These are all just ideas. Let me know your thoughts I’m eager for feedback

They should also get rid of Lightning McQueens racing academy since no one who’s 13 and up likes it and instead, expand this new Pixar area with an indoor version of Radiator Springs Racers

@@xcoasterenthusiast it looked cool initially but looking back despite never seeing it in person other than the animatronic it looks cheap for Disney standards. They definitely could’ve done something better I wouldn’t have anything against cars land replacing that whole area. The only reason I didn’t mention it was because it’s still fairly new but I could see it gone in the next maybe 5 years or so

I would hate to see more Star Wars at DHS,its a tiny park,I dont want half of it to be Star Wars.If you want to close the muppets and Star Tours and make something new I'd be good with it but dont use more park space for Star Wars.If you want to add to Star Wars tear down that train wreck of the galactic cruiser hotel and add Star Wars there.I think it makes more sense to use the Muppets and Star Tours for something else as Star Tours is outdated as well.I like the Muppets,make a new Muppets movie and add a Muppets ride,I'd be happy with that.A Muppet great movie ride with the Muppets would be amazing,anywhere you put it.That courtyard with Little Mermaid,Disney jr and Launch bay all need to go.DHS still needs serious help,a lot of areas need to be replaced,A muppet great movie ride would be great but a lot more needs to be done.

You don't know what they're gonna do to replace muppet vision though whatever's gonna happen I'm sure The Muppets will be fit will be fine after all Jim Henson worked really hard in really hard To have The Muppets be entrusted Disney before he died.

Okay listen buddy this ride is actually for Jim Henson and plus the Muppets still have rights for Disney so I don't think they're going to close this ride down because this ride is for Jim Henson in Disney wants to keep it there for him because he made the attraction so I don't think Disney's going to do anything with the Muppets

I say move Muppet vision, let that land become part of the Star Wars land, put Muppet vision, not really the show building itself just take the show and The show interior to another part of Hollywood studios, they aren’t using the section where you had to go for the old toy story midway mania queue was, in fact that entire area through there from that section up to the Star Wars launch bay could be used as a new Muppet area
