Thanks for uploading this great program. It's amazing how this very complex situation has been made out to be a Campbell massacring the MacDonald. I'm amazed that it still brings strong emotions out in the Scots after 300 years.

Love this documentary, being a McDonald myself...recently had 'Glencoe 13th Feb 1692' tattooed on my forearm. Bit sucky that my bf is a King Billy lover

I enjoyed that program so much, I'd get the DVD should my resources stretch that far! All seven posts you put up were so good - thoroughly enjoyed reviewing them! Went to National Library of Scotland to try and find that fantastic map they kept panning over, and to wikipedia, thanks to your posts, and some of the great responses you received! Thank you!

Most Scots who follow the orange numptys dont even know what they are following nor do they have any idea of the historical fact behind it.

Thank you for posting this video Dusty. Through my own research I have learned that McIan MacDonald is my great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather. RIP to all of the massacred MacDonald's of Glencoe.

Thanks for the upload and the education as to what these songs are all about. Let us not dwell upon past rivalries but learn lessons for the future. History is only valuable if it is taught as objectively as possible!

As a Campbell I have always been told that we were responsible for Glencoe. Its quite amazing to see how far the English crown will go to exonerate themselves and pass the blame on to others.

Here are some of the names of Glencoe cattle-stealing clansmen on trial in 1639 (Lowland English spelling): Alester McRonald m'Ean Dowie, Donald McRonald, Gilespik McInnes McEane Dui, Alester McInnes vic Eane Dui, John Dowie McCondachie vic Eane, Duncan McCondachie vic Findla vic Rankein yr. - McRankein yr. No MacDonalds there! Also, Dowie and Dui probably mean dubh (black-haired). A clansman was a Mac, a son of his father who was a son of his father, and so on. A woman was Nic, daughter of ...

Parliament were never going to blame William, as it was parliament that brought William from Holland along with Mary Stuart to take over from James the VII & II In the bloodless coup. One mans ambition. Passed through Glencoe on Saturday 31st August 2019 and it still feels eerily silent some 327 yrs later.

Confirmation again that the tyranny of the government is the greatest threat to freedom. We in Texas will never give our guns away to the benevolent state.

@BillDFC exactly. They saw Scottish rebellion against the English as an easier and cheaper way to beat the English rather than investing their own money and lives. How many times did France fail to turn up after insiting an uprising? Im not sure but it must have been quite a few.

@bellm8 Indeed. I hope that the Scots and Irish wake up to the disloyalty shown to them all by, at the time of the GR and Wm III, the big central governments run primarily by the new central banks who helped fund Wm III's takeover and his on-going war with France.

I had no idea there was sectarianism involved in this, I was told it was the campbells, never questioned it as I have known about this since a kid and remember hanging around with a McDonald and a campbell, and a joke was made that the campbell will stab you in the back, its always been something I assumed was true, that's far out lol

English bastards! There was four part documentary by the BBC about the scottish military role in the British army. Quebec, The Thin Red Line in the battle of Balaclarva, all the highland regiments and all their successes in major British battles and the impact they have had on the success of the empire. It was on about a year ago last summer I think. It was a pretty good documentary. Showed the empire wouldnt have got far with out the highlander soldiers who were feared and rspected equally.

@bellm8 the division was ony possible due to the greed and treachory of the nobles and rich of Scotland. They always sold out their country and their countrymen for gold. If the Scots had united against the british from the start they would have won their independence sooner. English are always the easy scapegoats in what was always very complicated politics. "Over simplified" as explained in this programme.
