He’d kidnapped the children & fled overseas when he realized his families money and connections couldn’t save him from serious abuse and CM charges a neighboring State filed after the kids talked to authorities. My daughter can’t have children of her own bc of the damage he caused. My son is gone, partly because of what his “father” did. These monsters destroy MANY lives and relationships. When an abuser, MALE OR FEMALE, PROMISES that “you’re going to pay for this for the rest of your life”-BELIEVE THEM! I’m so sorry for Haley’s family; unfortunately, I know the pain of losing a child…especially during this time of year. I applaud the work her mother is doing. I ended up going into DV/SA counseling myself for over 20yrs; unfortunately, I can’t do it anymore. It’s both rewarding and depressing work because we STILL seem to keep taking steps forward; then leaps backward. Abusers are often very cunning, very talented conmen and women who fool most people around them. When they have money and family connections..it’s even worse. PLEASE connect with a domestic violence organization or shelter…even if it only happens once. In my years of both personal experience and with other survivors; ITS *NEVER* ONLY ONCE!

@turunturunАй бұрын
I understand your point - I really do. However, I’ll leave you with some food for thought: the show suggested she had clearly indicated she didn’t want to be in a serious relationship. So it’s unfair to characterize her as “stringing multiple people along.” A mature/healthy person, when told someone doesn’t want to be in a (serious) relationship, will weigh whether their expectations or desires align with the other persons and choose their actions accordingly. You are not “playing with fire” if you are being an authentic, self-aware and honest person while others choose to be obsessive, possessive, or codependent - crazy is on their side of the line in that case, not yours. That is an important distinction. That said, you ARE playing with fire when you allow people displaying those behaviors to stay in your life. Just my 2c. Be blessed and may none of us ever get entangled with crazy obsessive people.

I don't feel the same way about his friends. From personal experience, I know it is very difficult when it comes to somebody you care about for a long time to accept something like this. In my case I couldn't accept the possibility for decades; when there were signs of problematic behavior in one of my sons. I just loved him too much and to me he was always the most amazing boy with all positive qualities. But people would mention things to me from time to time and I just rejected the idea. I wasn't until he actually turned on and criminalized me that I was shaken into acknowledging that part of his personality; which he never exposed to me before. And I know there are people who are quite malicious and evil minded but who work very hard to put on a completely different appearance. People do not really wear their true nature on their sleeves. People can be very deceptive. And we all have a tendencey to judge others on the basis of appearances. So they may say they don't believe it, but what they really mean is that it does not seem possible. This happened a long way from where they knew him. When people you trust really betray that trust and damage your life, it's very traumatic - and that happens. But right up to that moment, if somebody told you they were capable of that kindd of behavior, you absolutely would not believe it.

The saddest part to all this is they knew, the mother and Haley knew of Orlando's problem but Haley made the wrong choice of ignoring the obvious warning signs. She believed in the LIE that Orlando was a good person and would not harm her, and she decided that the problems she did witness were not as important as her so called perceptions of him being a good nurse. She didnt want him to be thrown out of Nursing school becuase of his poor choices. But this was NOT her decision to make, rather, her decision was to protect her life and her future. Orlando made the poor choices and needed to be held accountable for those choices. This is why I teach my daughter to IGNORE your feelings, ignore what you may believe about somone and LOOK at the behavior, look at what they are actually doing separate from what you feel and believe. I tell her that she is NOT responsible for the consequences of someone elses poor choices. Make your decisions based on the FACTS and do not allow your feelings to get in the way. Its the same problem with Orlando's friends in Nicaragua as they are only looking at their feelings and what they believe to be true versus the actual truth of Orlando's behavior.

Being a young woman in this world is so very dangerous. On two occasions I nearly lost my life to men that I trusted. If it wasn’t them choosing to stop, and on the other occasion his brother intervening there’s no telling how far until they did stop. We have to keep ourselves protected against all men, always. This is such a tragic crime, senseless. She seemed like such a bright light that this world needs more of.

Idk how it wasnt obvious to his friends. This girl he had a romantic relationship with, where she rejects him, was found dead in his house... in his room... where he then literally jumps on a plane instantly while leaving her body in place and heads back to his home country. The contemporaneous security footage illustrates the timeline perfectly as well. His friends: "Na couldn't be him, he was cool in class back in the day."

@carlosfrancis919, I literally got angry when she said that! What fool she is to teach your child to trust any and everybody! I told someone in another post of mines that I think not only is the killer a narcissist, but sometimes I think some of these victims are too! Just like that phrase that people often use after having a loved one murdered, oh! everybody loved her or him and one detective on a crime show said, well somebody didn't. I am sickened by people who say that because they really do think that everybody in this entire world has to like them or love them and that's an arrogant attitude that sometimes end up getting you killed! Even the bibles speak of us all having enemies! Everybody didn't love Jesus and he did no wrong, but he still had enemies! People sometimes say I don't have any enemies! Again, very arrogant and I say to them you might not have any that you know of, but you do have enemies!! I pick carefully the people I choose to associate with and who I choose to bring into my life! I examine them thoroughly by watching carefully what they say or do, and I mean this has to go on for years before I can totally accept you into my life! I'm an introvert and I don't like a lot of people around me any way. A lot of people have gotten mad when I have turned them away because God always give me this feeling when there is something wrong with that person, so I send them packing I don't care how mad they get! That's why I am this old and is still alive because I use common sense when it comes to dealing with human beings!

Men are never JUST FRIENDS with you. They will be your friend, but they ALWAYS want to be more (have sex with you). This took me until my 30s to finally come to terms with. I have more male friends than I can count and now I realize all of them wanted to have sex with me. I was too naive in my 20s to realize this, but now in my 30s I know they were just trying to get with me. You strung that guy along for 7 years, unknowingly and not your fault, but in his eyes you were probably doing it on purpose and he was getting impatient waiting on you to realize you were in love. Don't keep male "friends". That is dangerous. Unless they are friends with your boyfriend or husband first.
