The Must Watch Anime of 2017 | A Year of Gems, Dentistry, and Sequels

Well that was 2017. Thanks for your support, I really do appreciate it. Hopefully 2018 will keep up this bit of momentum I’ve been riding off the last week or two of this year. Assuming I make somewhat frequent content. Just wanted to go over a bit of housekeeping for the video and some of my thought process. Series like Made in Abyss and Hero Academia were excluded because there’s no shortage of people discussing them and I don’t really have too much to add apart from some contrarian nitpicks. Magus’ Bride and S2 of 3-gatsu no Lion are still airing so I’ll wait a bit before giving final thoughts on either of them. I’m not caught up with Kekkai Sensen & Beyond and Inuyashiki. Girl’s Last Tour probably being the most glaring omission is one I’ve also been meaning to check out. I also may have included The Dragon Dentist as just an excuse to it’s great art for the thumbnail. But don’t quote me on that. Everything else falls under different strokes for different folks and was done to keep the list as diverse and varied as possible. But of course there’s some HOT bias throughout so I’d personally love to know your thoughts and favorites.

Re:Creators is my favourite this year. It just really connects so well with me for some reason as I try to look at the different perspective of each of the characters and understand their ideals and circumstances. It really gets me going full empathetic mode.

Agreed with a lot of your favourites. The only one I felt was missing from here was Made in Abyss. To be honest, though I loved its episodes 1-4 and found myself way more immersed than I had expected, I felt like 5-7 lagged a tiny bit, and almost got turned off. However, sticking with Made in Abyss was honestly the best decision of this year, because BOY did it pick up, and BOY was it amazing. Everything from the incredibly immersive background art, the voice acting, the spectacular sound editing, to the really fascinating world-building was A+ and judging by your general taste in anime I feel you might want to give it a go, if you haven't.
