Paul Keres was the pure artist. he was never a world champion indeed but that doesn't mean nothing. his games are still alive and very appreciated,among thousands of people. his passion and contribution to the world of chess is significant and priceless. I'm not a professional player but I do enjoy watching his games,I find a lot of complexity there, so thank you Mato for giving us all this material..if I ever see you I'll buy you a drink😀

Mato this is a supreme example of your sense of humour. I understand exactly why you presented this game as you've done. A very subtle but powerful message to us all. What a great player Keres was!

Any game you can learn something from IS a GOOD game, no matter who played. It is true just like Sir Mato said that we can learn better from Keres' games than Tal's. Thanks again for showing us this beauty, Sir Mato. God bless you.

well you always have the option of not watching... the quality of the games and the assessment of them are the reason most of us watch this channel, what does it matter if it's Keres or Tal or whoever so long as there's some insight to be gained?
@Tammyaway9 жыл бұрын
+Steven If we learned anything from this video is that for the purpose of learning it doesn't matter which player it is who played the pieces. If he had done those same Keres games while using different names you wouldn't have found it "boring". Focus on the content and not the title of the video.
@Tammyaway9 жыл бұрын
Steven Why is it boring? If he had done those games without naming names you wouldn't have been bored. My point is you've created an artificial reason to be bored which is completely irrelevant.

Keres probably does not get the respect he deserves. He was a great, imaginative player. Perhaps Mato should write a book about his games. I don't think there is a good modern book on Keres.

There was a man who really liked chess so much, that he went to the church and asked the priest - if they played chess in heaven. He ment a life without chess was no life. The priest said come back in 3 days and I will have the answer. After 3 days the man came back to the church The priest said - well I have good news and bad news The good news is that they play a lot of chess in heaven The man smiled a happy smile and thanked God for that then he asked the priest what the bad news were. Well said the priest - you going to play in their sundance chessclub next week

Mato - my roommates and I in Brooklyn have loved your videos for years... One thought on this one: After black's queen takes white's C4 pawn around move 50, can't white force checkmate, or else capture black's queen, with knight to B6 (check), followed by rook to A8 (check), then bishop to A4 (check), then white queen takes pawn, checkmate?

i knew it wasnt Tal when black offered to trade queens and white denied. to decide if a game is played by Tal, 1. see if there is a queen sacrifice 2. see if there is any crazy move which makes no sense at the first glance if NO for both questions, it is not Tal's game
@Brumhart-t4d9 жыл бұрын
hahaha yeah and what I've seen about keres is that he doesn't like to sacrifice the queen

It is obvious that Paul Keres was a chess genius, but how he has never won the World chess championship title. How he never became the World chess champion? And how some of us has never heard his name? Isnt this unfair for a magnificent player like Paul Keres.
@PairsOfDuals8 жыл бұрын
He was basically the main candidate for a World Championship match between him and I believe Mikhail Botvinnik but WW2 started so the match was postponed, and many players and historians believe the Soviets more or less threatened Keres because they wanted a true-blood Soviet champion like Botvinnik instead of the Estonian Keres.
@PairsOfDuals8 жыл бұрын
The World Championship before WW2 was likely to be between Alekhine and Keres but then the war started, not Botvinnik. But the rest is true.

Surprisingly Game.. because tal would do Bishop to a5 first.... and then opponent resign...tal lost some games just because he likes to attacks... that is daring.. and a player should have courage to attack like tal had....

I saw the Killa move :) although Tal's games are the most fun to watch, I can actually learn more from Keres' games. Keres' style is somehow intuitively more akin to me. Keres is simple, elegant and beautiful. Tal on the other hand is a bit too much for me, if I ever try to do anything like Tal, my brain would explode I guess :)

After Nd5 do you have to take the knight? If Kd7 instead of Qxd5? then what does white have beyond Qxb7 or possibly Rxb7 taking back the pawn? The King then runs to e8 and material is equal
