Musicians has been let to believe that a guitar amplifier is a special amplifier that was made specially for guitars , when in fact they are general purpose audio amplifiers..
No special tones built in . I encourage going direct and use pedals.
Guitar amplifiers are useful if you are at home and want to practice or in a situation where there is no PA system . Back in the early days the guitar amplifier was the PA system and ever since it got stuck on musicians . with the modern PA systems they are not necessary.
