​@@GGiblet It is protocol across the entire US to do a GSR test on all witnesses and victims whenever a firearm is involved in a death. Sometimes police departments drop the ball and don't do it, but it is absolutely protocol to do it. It is a very simple and easy test- a quick swab of the hands that is then sent out for testing for GSR. Any department that fails to do it is sloppy and unprofessional, as this department certainly was.

This was one of the best episodes I've ever seen. This interviewer should consider becoming a prosecutor. He didn't let the suspect get away with lying like so often happens. And yet with that same tenacity, he also gently helped the victims mom come out of her denial and face the hard truth. I'm so thankful, despite clear conflicts of interest, justice was served.

I hate this kind of argument, to be honest. Everybody's different, and far too many innocent people have been persecuted or convicted from somebody's idea of inappropriate emotional response.. He did not feel right when the cops showed up, but the emotion wasn't the problem. Rather, what he said sounded like he was telling a story, not like he was actually remembering something that had just happened. I've had to talk to the police before about a violent crime that just happened; it just doesn't sound like that. You backtrack, you correct yourself, you add things. You think a lot, trying to make sure you're remembering and retelling it accurately. It's nothing like this. Edit: He used the exact same words to the Dateline person! Totally a memorized story.

I think one of the best things about this case was that the sheriff recognized the conflict of interest right away and turned it over to the state. Not every sheriff or police department would have done that and it was the right thing to do. (10:41)

I'm sure the promptness of the process was a professional courtesy. You act as if they just ignored the van as a potential crime scene and let him destroy evidence. It really doesn't take long to obtain swabs, prints, photos, video, etc. It is the further investigation of those items of evidence that take time. Law enforcement still investigated despite thinking it was a suicide initially. That is more than most departments do for obvious homicides at times.

I mean, he almost did. It was almost 6 years before he was charged, also his mother was the Sherrif so he prob thought he had protection there. To be honest though, he was prob in a rage when he shot her and probably wasn't thinking anything about getting away with it at the time. He just saw red due to the affair. I just feel so bad for the kids, her mother, and her as well. I do think its odd the children live with his parents though. Usually they would go with the mothers family, especially considering he killed her. Maybe her mom isn't in a position to take care of them or wasn't 6 years ago and when she found out he did it she didn't want to rip them out of their new home, who knows.

The oldest child said he walked in the house when they heard the first shot. That would make me think he was innocent. Kids will tell the truth before an adult would. She only attended court once during the trial and when she did , she was on the Stand saying how wonderful Jason was . I also think it was because she didn't attend the trial only to testify and didn't know all the evidence because when she found out she changed. I was like I can't believe she's supporting him over her daughter

I was going to church, volunteering, and had done an evaluation with a counselor, but had thoughts of suicide. I never told anyone. Usually the people who are serious about it don’t tell anyone. I did attempt it, too. Have had thoughts of it since and I now have a loving husband and two children. So people saying ‘oh no, she seemed fine, she was helping people and started seeing a counselor’ doesn’t mean anything. Regardless of the verdict or what actually happened in this particular case, people need to keep that in mind. People often commit suicide when no one saw it coming.

@@shelliedavis did you read the second half of what I said? I was saying that it doesn’t necessarily apply to this case. It’s just that a lot of the family and friends in the video kept saying she didn’t seem suicidal. It brought to mind how often people say that in general. I’m not saying that SHE committed suicide though. Edit: I’m simply saying that I hope people keep that in mind in general when hearing things in this video. Just because someone has everything going for them, it doesn’t mean they’re okay on the inside.

@@melissajenkins9960 You're absolutely correct. Depression doesn't look any one way. Sometimes it's obvious, sometimes it isn't. I just can't stand when people IGNORE facts that point toward homicide, simply because the victim experienced depression. There are SO many people in the world that experience depression and don't want to die at all.

This was also disturbing to me. He may very well have done it, I don't have a hard time believing it. But the evidence they are presenting as somehow incontrovertible is that his affect on the phone was disproportionate to the situation (very easily explained by shock), and his particular word choice in describing the position of the gun while he's standing outside in the dark and his wife is dead.

Her mother was more worried about her son in law going to jail than her own daughter being killed 😢😮 It was shocking and disappointing. She failed her daughter even after her death. Rest in peace, Angel

The grandkids' situation wouldn't have changed anything if she stood to fight for her child. Anyway, justice was served, and may her beautiful soul rest in peace
