Adrian Sutil is now 39 years old. He had a reasonably long career as a midfielder in Formula 1, but has been very quiet ever since leaving the sport in 2015. Just where has he been?

I was Adrian's teammate in A1GP world cup of motorsport in 2005/6 (different nations Germany and Pakistan but run effectively the same team Supernova racing) He was a very good driver but also very very emotional. He would actually cry and I mean tears cry or have real tantrum if something upset him and on more than one occasion. They were tricky cars to setup right and our results really fluctuated with bith cars and we struggled. It didnt go down well with him. My dad who came to watch me race in Australia had to put an arm round him console him as did I when he crashed in Australia. Totally different to what you percieve him to be (a schumacher-esque professional steely German). Also not many people know but we all believed he is closet gay (and I dont say that disrespectfully). But it was just something about him and also the extreme emotions he would convey and his slightly "camp" and feminine mannerisms. Perhaps why he probably avoids the spotlight? He was however a very nice guy once you broke down the facade and was always overly respectful to myself and my dad after we helped him in Australia. Be under no mistake he was my fastest teammate in terms along with Jose Maria Lopez that I ever came across and I came across lots of guys who are big names now.

Hiya Adam. I actually remember you as a fan. You were a decent driver as well, whatever became of you? For those of you who don't know, Adam Khan came 3rd in the Autoseries 3000 in 2008 with what (I found) was above-average driving & earned himself a spot at Renault, being one of their test drivers for 2009.

@@mariz9084 Hi Riz thanks for the nostalgic msg! Im retired from racing now. Yes you are right I was a test and demo driver for Renault after a strong F3000 campaign. Unfortunately had to miss the first two rounds due to a lack of sponsorship so was a late entry and narrowly missed out on points but was the strongest driver of the field with pole positions by some margin and the most wins. This was despite having the only car with a stick shift where all the others were paddle shift. Renault saw my efforts and gave me a dream opportunity for which im eternally grateful and very lucky to have done.

Basically, he went off so he could leave the limelight. Some people do. I remember wanting him to depart F1 after 2009, when it was clear he was nothing more than a solid driver, blocking better young drivers from a seat. I formed this impression after Spa and Italy. Teammate Fisichella, who was also solid, and getting solidly older, nearly won in Belgium. At Monza, a Sutil error, and for a driver who was trying to crack a top team, there was a missing edge in pace. A Hamilton/Alonso type would likely have won those races in the Force India. Then there was the 2011 Shanghai champagne glass incident. I thought that was it for him, so when he hung on, I was surprised. That he made it back for a little while - somehow. Thankfully, time moved on and so did he. Going by this video, perhaps if he'd started karting 7 years younger, he may have been great. Then again, it probably didn't, as starting late didn't hurt Sebastian Loeb too much.

he was incredibly fast in 2009 but made to many mistakes, driving on p6 in the wet at shanghai before crashing 6 laps to the end, making the first q3 apearance for force india at the german gp with p7 and going very well in the race chasing leader barrichello by 1,5 secconds a lap before he stopped, than crashed with raikönnen while he was to overtake him at the pit exit, qualified p2 in monza due to a little error in the lesmos 0,3s ahead of the entire field exept hamilton who was a tenth in front, than chasing raikonnen the whole race without kers like fisichella did in belgium and crashed into his pit crew when he had the chance to finally overtake him. also qualified 4th in japan and 3rd in brazil. but crashed or was getting crashed again on both occasions. his 2010 and 2011 seasons were very solid then. also there is his heroic drive in the complete backmarker force india in 2008 where he had driven out a 18 seconds gap to p5 raikonnen before rosberg crashed (started on p18 with nearly the whole field in the race, would've got a 20 seconds penalty for overtaking blocked cars in the hairpin, but was setting fastest laps in this car and wouldve easily got p5 or p6 with the penalty without sc). also he was fastest in fp3 2007 there in the rain in a spyker.. his comeback race wasnt that bad either with leading the race for a few laps gaining on the "real" leaders who came out behind him on fresh tires. or overtaking 4 cars in the first lap at radillion and kemmel straight (?) in the 2007 spyker or his overtakes on button and alonso in monaco 2013. and there are a few other honorable mentions. he just didnt had the charisma and the luck to be remembered. (and destroyed many of his results by himself) but i think he is maybe THE forgotten driver of the 2000s in terms of pace edit: ok summarized a lot of the video before watching, nice work :)
