i feel like one of the main reasons for the scene explaining the boat being from the south blue was primarily done to give us insight to robins character. shes the newest person on the ship so we dont know much about her, but this one scene allowed us to see her expertise in archeology and her knowledge of the world in general. and just some fun world building too

Also, the Monster trio each find a treasure related to their interest, but it turns out worthless. Rusted swords, a woman long since dead, and a piece of treasure that turns out to be empty. Wasn't the sight of the sky people described as meeting an angel? Perhaps the pirates thought they met Angels, ripped out the "genuine angel feather" and were sentenced to drifting for it.

I agree that it probably means something, but I want to play devil's advocate here just for the sake of it. Robin, an archeologist, just joined the crew a few chapters earlier, so Oda might have just wanted to draw some worldbuilding scenes. Interesting yet unnecessary details are not uncommon to read about in fantasy novels. Fantasy authors do this all the time because it gives their worlds verisimilitude (the feeling of being real). That's just me being a killjoy, though, and I hope it has payoff!

It was definitely meant to show off Robin’s archaeology skills. I don’t recall that aspect of her being shown much in Alabasta besides reading the Poneglyphs. So it was a great scene to quickly show what she can do and what she brings to the Straw Hat crew.

I mean, there's no doubt in my mind that that does play a huge role in this whole sequence, but there's still so many stuff that doesn't really have a correlation with Robins role in that moment, especially the feather in the chest and the portrait, that has no payoff with Robin at all and was completely kept as a mystery. So while a good chunk of this moment was meant to give Robin some characterization, I don't think that was all it was.

In minutes you see the knowledge of Robin and see how they work together to solve the world's many mysteries.

So 200 years ago Fishman island joins the World Government, and coincidentally the Iron Giants goes on a rampage in Mary Geoise. The St.Briss is sentenced to cloud drifting for some unknown reason, perhaps we'll never know, but the picture of the women can possibly be Lili. Now the person that has gotten my attention again is Toki. Toki said that she time traveled whenever she was in danger, so I wonder if she had anything to do with any of these events.

While I do still think the information on the St. Briss will have at least some amount of payoff, I can give an explanation for why it was included that's completely separate from it's relevancy (or potential lack thereof): It serves as a vehicle for Robin to demonstrate her Archeology skills. As far as I recall, Robin only mentions being an archeologist once she's on the crew, and it's framed as a very dubious deflection considering every scene we've seen her in has been exclusively as a shifty double agent/assassin type of character, so her claiming that she's a simple archeologist seems almost like a intentionally obvious lie. Then we see her deduce all that information on the St. Briss, complete with getting Chopper to corroborate with his area of expertise, so we know she's not just making it all up, so our reaction becomes "Oh, okay. Maybe she's actually telling the truth about being an archeologist". From a meta standpoint, the more detailed or specific the information she's able to glean from such a small amount of material to study serves to emphasize how impressive her skill is, and of course with the benefit of hindsight we know how absolutely vital her role as Arceologist actually is to the story, and therefore how important it was to firmly establish her skills, it's no wonder this information is as detailed as it is, regardless of whether it's relevant going forward or not. Again, I'm definitely still in the camp of this stuff coming back around, because we know how Oda operates, but I had to at least add that there was still a narrative function to the scene that was mostly independent of the actual information being presented

The line of logic may have been that since the nefretari family is descended from the original 20 Kings, and pluton is an ancient superweapon from that same era, and the fact there's a poneglyph in their possession which may or may not be information available to someone looking for it. Even if he diddnt know about the poneglyph at the time, he probably planned to just go through the books accumulated in the Royal Palace since they have got a certain level more clout than other kingdoms because of their lineage.

I been thinking maybe the same thing but this also just be a way of flushing out Chopper & Robin skills as character. I would say pre time skip it was a lot of depth/flushing out of thing. Felt more lived in. wheres as now if feel its more story driven, like okay let me tell this story and stop meandering with all theses ideas I have to make it more lived in. Like you know your main quest is to the grocery store, otw there you grab some fast food, you meet someone and have a conversation, then you witness something interesting all while headed to your goal of the grocery store. Very far-stretched theory here but I feel like since the mother flame is connected to the shandorians and the skypieans, one of the materials to make the mother flame may be feathers of the skypieans or shandorians and maybe lunarians, which is why we see the mother flame only with the skypeople and we saw king in a lab being tested on. Maybe the saint briss was being sent to find the skypieans and collect their feathers. (AGAIN THIS IS STILL IS A VERY FAR-STRETCH).

Interesting that Tekking didn't mention the possibility of the St. Briss entering Skypiea or in a larger scale the white seas or sky islands by the way of the far west, or whatever Gan Fal called it. Because as Gan Fal mentioned, entering the sky islands and surviving by knock-up stream is quite uncommon. How would a traveling ship even move in calm belt, let alone survive the journey if sky island inhabitants are enough to "imprison" them on a drifting cloud.

The sail has a name but no Jolly Roger so they probably weren't pirates. Given a dragon like figure head, & a name including Saint, it's probably a celestial dragon's ship. Either that or it was chartered for that purpose. Also, the name is written as "Briss." It may be an abbreviation for a name like Brisson. As far as the feather, I have no idea. Maybe a Warusagi bird stole the loot & left behind their feather as a calling card. Interesting that the ship was attacked by harpoon like spears. Probably unrelated, but the only people I remember seeing with those kinds of weapons were Crocus & Duval. Duval's harpoons were all metal though.

I always had a theory that the whole St Briss thing was originally going to be part of a sad story that would give us more details both about White Sea Culture and also Birka? Of all the sky people, we know very little about the Birkans as a people, but we do know that like the Shandorians, they dont have the antennae seen on Skypeans. I believe the woman in the photograph/portrait is a Birkan woman, and the Love interest of the St. Briss's Captain. I had believed the ship caught a knockup stream and ended up at the shores of Birka, where the crew had been rescued/ nursed back to health? The Captain and this woman had fallen in love, and we would learn that its customary in the Sky for two lovers to exchange a single feather from there wings (like exchanging locks of hair) as an engagement right. maybe they swore to return to Birka but got lost and never made it back? Maybe Oda left this out cause he decided Birka was going to have far more significance later on aka when we learn about Urogues past?

Ive seen a lot of people discussing this theory, but I think people are going to deep into this. The photo is not necesary something relevant, just because we looked at a portrait in last chapter it doesnt mean now we have to look at all portraits in one piece. It might be that the ship will have some relevance in the future but I dont think so, and my main issue is the timing, most people are forgetting that the ship they found had was like 200 hundred years old and came from the Briss Kingdom, this means that neither was an Arabasta Ship, nor could it be a ship from the void century, the most simple answer is that it was just used by Oda to show the mysteries from skypea when we didnt knew about the winged people, but people going crazy saying it was Lily ship its to much

With us knowing the worlds ocean levels raised so much Imo the thing we seen in the fog/mist at thriller bark i feel like is imu because the shilluote is extremely close plus the red eyes i think imu is probably a umibozu or has a mythical zoan fruit of a umibozu. Especially because umi and imu is just reversed, and what we saw in the mist at thriller bark is still unexplained i don't think we'd have gone so long without seeing imu then to be revealed there is a final threat that has gone unknown for so long. I really don't think imu is vivi's ancestor because the Alabasta kingdom seems to be well received in general and has a line of the royalty that actually care. I think it be weird if vivi's ancestor is some extremely terrible person who wanted to rule the world and is willing to destroy countries so i feel imu is a umibozu especially given the rising ocean imu would directly benefit from

So the st. Briss was transporting a coffin with a corpse of a trepanning receiver and a single feather inside a locked chest? Call me crazy but that sounds like the two are related to each other. The result for the origins of trepanning is the ancient egyptians were the first to do it, and the feather has relavance in that time period. "Maat was the feather as the personification of truth, justice, and harmony. Pharaohs are often depicted with the emblems of Maat to emphasise their roles in upholding the laws and righteousness." What if the body is actually the corpse of nefretari lili, and the feather is the proof that she is who the sailors claimed to be. Perhaps after the founding of the world government lili found her way on board the st. Briss trying to leave mariejois, or was killed the same way cobra was and was sent back to alabasta only to end up getting derailed and sent to Skypea via knock up stream because they sailed to jaia on the way back.
