If we look at the parallels of both of His major temptations, we can see the stark contrast. If He were to ask God to care for Him, God would have sent angels to care for Him. Similar to the Mana in the desert - a sweet filling treat. But when God asks us to care for him, we give Him vinegar. We can give Him nothing except our praise, but He can provide every sweet thing we have, which is a very different gift than the pain and bitterness that the world offers.
