2 years after joining The WatchBox, we have a Jack Forster sighting...In all seriousness Jack, where have you been? You just seemed to disappear off the radar...

I didn't sense bitterness in the comment? anyways Jack has been writing for watchbox as well as on his Substack. He also appeared on several watchbox vidoes

It's great to be back except maybe for that guy further down who said I looked like a boiled egg, the truth hurts 😂yeah so writing a lot for WatchBox/The 1916 Company, have an intermittently active substack (Split Seconds) and you know, watching the industry and watch editorial with a careful eye

Jack is an old white straight cis male who represents the patriarchy. For a woke company like Hodinkee, that's a bad thing. Hodinkee is actively hiring young, minority, trans, or other underrepresented groups in the pursuit of gaining DEI and ESG points.

Great breakdown. Thank you. Personally, I don't care when watch brands use outside suppliers, only when they lie about it to justify higher costs. These days, it seems only independent/micro brands are willing to be fully transparent, which is a shame.

🤯 😮🙏🏽 Can you do more of these educational videos?? Please! Things I’ve heard about mechanical watches are finally making sense, eg, “when a reviewer says a watch brand makes its own mainspring…”
@pierregagne19039 ай бұрын
The origin of the problematic labelling manufacture came from companies such as IWC and Panerai who charged premium for Sellitas and ETAs movements. I don’t have any problem with watch companies importing components from various suppliers as long as they’re honest. Laurent Ferrier is a great example of a watchmaker: he imports his components, assembles the watch and brings great care finishing the watch.

While not conclusive, I do think it says a lot that most of the most expensive watches ever sold at auction are not “in house”. That segment of the market clearly doesn’t care, so why should we?

Modern watch that comes to mind is Vacheron fifty six. Absolutely fantastic piece. But because they are honest in saying the components are outsourced, and even though they assemble, finish and regulate it, newbies on the internet bad mouth it not knowing how common it us is and for the first 250 years of its operations vacheron did not use any in house movements.

"Manufacture": file under "marketing BS to justify exorbitant pricing". Like "in-house". Are Seiko and Orient "manufactures"? How many Swiss "manufactures" make their own balance springs and how many buy them from Nivarox, which is the market-leading specialist and part of the Swatch Group?

@jamesblonde22719 ай бұрын
@@pedromanuellopez142 That is irrelevant to my criticism, further more Jack whossisname is an eliteist gatekeeping woke plum who presumably only knows anything about watches because his social life is a desert. I do not have any respect for him, I consider him and his ridiculous previous website Poohdinkee to be the most pretentious and risible players in watchfams history and it and him, a blot on the industry. Please feel free to ask me to elucidate with examples if you wish for further details. Eight grand alarm clock anyone?
