I'm surprised that you didn't mention the episode Trucks in this. The crash is a similar manner, trucks breaking free from an incline, but Peter Sam gets wrecked in it, albeit not enough that he can't still move, but he has visible damage from the accident that even continues onto another episode involving his funnel being knocked off after it was loosened in the crash.

“Its Thomas and Friends. Of course it’s gonna have a happy ending.” I’m sorry but are we just gonna ignore Rusty and the Boulder? While not entirely narrow gauge I’m pretty sure that episode warrants some sort of in depth look for a friggin possessed boulder with Gordon’s face on it! Though in a somewhat lighter note, I believe Four Little Engines should also get a look if only for Skarloey’s persistence despite his body being quite literally bent out of shape.

Bulldog was arguably even more dark in the RWS, since it was published after Mountain Engines, which featured a story about an engine (Godred) tumbling down a mountain and then getting scrapped for spare parts. Sure, it was stated that Culdee had made that story up, but for various reasons it's generally accepted that the incident did happen and that line was put in by the publishers for the children. What's even better is that the story was presented as Skarloey and Rheneas asking Culdee to tell the story to Duncan and Sir Handel. It's moments like this (as well as Duck and Dukes and a few others) that make me wish for a rerelease of the RWS with some minor edits to accomodate for future stories set in the past.

Great video, it's good to look at these stories /situations from a different angle, I really enjoy these observations :) While not quite along the same theme, when I was younger watching "Heroes" with Bill and Ben escaping the quarry with the workers really left an impression. As much as it had the typical "everyone was okay" disclaimer, the kid in me reacted like "oh sh*! mind blown" not just from the scale of the destruction, but also thinking that if it happened in reality that escape would actually be pretty damn slim.

Honestly, my thoughts on Thomas channels are usually not so great. No offense to some, but sometimes it just feels too immature. This is by far my favorite Thomas/Train related channel, because he clearly is passionate, and yet treats these subjects with some maturity. Btw, Sir Handel is my favorite, I wish there was an ho model of him

I think another example would be "Rusty helps Peter Sam". The destruction of that episode is incredible both to the slate trucks, Peter Sam himself, and the location. I think it also shows how devious the narrow gauge trucks are, they were willing to cause all of that damage because they mistook Peter Sam for Sir Handel.

I should note: Dunkin' Duncan was the first episode in which The Fat Controller says the phrase "confusion and delay," which has now all but become his catchphrase. To be clear, it was said before in Gordon Takes a Tumble, but by the narrator.

I've always thought the story of the ghost engine in Duncan gets spooked was dark yet interesting. First of all we don't known if it actually happened or that Rusty just made up the story to scare Duncan who was teasing Peter Sam about letting his trucks brake away and fall off the old Iron Bridge and saying that the trucks would come back as ghosts to haunt Peter Sam. Second if their was an engine that fell off the bridge into the swamp, how did Rusty know about it? If it did happen, it would have most likely would have happened before Rusty came to Sodor, However according to the fandom, Rusty came to Sodor in 1957 while Duncan came in 1958. So it is possible that Rusty may have known the other engine for a brief time and learned about the accident, and that Duncan was brought to Sodor as a replacement, so basically Rusty was telling Duncan about his predecessor. Third if the wreck happened *before* Rusty arrived, Rusty may have heard about it from either Skarlooey or Rheneas. Also if the story was true that means the engine's driver and fireman also went over as the engine derailed suddenly without warning and with no place for the driver and fireman to jump clear, thus resulting in the deaths of the driver and fireman of the engine

Please could you check out the true story of either Bulstrode or Percy, James and the Fruitful Day? Thank you so much. And if you believe the narrow gauge engines' episodes are usually darker than the standard gauge engines' tales, I've got some questions. Was either Put Upon Percy, A Close Shave, The Flying Kipper, Percy's Predicament or Dirty Objects a joke to you? Sure, Percy is a brat of an engine, but he got buried alive due to the trucks' stupidity. Likewise, didn't 9 trucks get smashed inside that mine - or did they just become buried alive? And James probably could've died if the hot tar inside those broken tankers exploded. We don't know for sure if Henry did come to be rebuilt after his crash with the Kipper, nor did they tell us if anyone in either that episode's brake van or the one in Percy's Predicament got killed. And moreover, you didn't discuss either Trucks, Rusty and the Boulder or Duncan Gets Spooked. Didn't three to eight trucks die in the former episode? How many truck deaths did you count? And didn't the six trucks who fell from the old iron bridge die? Finally, that boulder nearly crushed Rheneas, Rusty, Skarloey AND Percy
