@dreamplace7469 Жыл бұрын
I believe they most likely mean the more flat delivery that's characteristic of new wave or shoegaze. It's a part of the style of the music. Sure there's plenty of emotion in the voice, but the vocal delivery is "flatter" than other genres of music. Sounds more detached.

Considering what is so hugely popular and selling insanely these days, I feel a lot of artists and bands are massively underrated. I mean, you look at all the junk (not all of it, of course) that's been over-the-top successful, and then on the other hand, almost every week I find musicians on the internet who have a certain following, but I'm like, "Oh my god, how awesome is that!" and I wonder why I've never heard of it or only in passing.

This song reminds me a lot of my teens and early 20s, doing a lot of desperate and dire, unnecessary things to "find yourself". After the fact you realize you always knew who you were but were trying so hard, in vain, to express how you felt to others through actions. In the moment you didn't realize those actions not only misrepresented who you were but also alienated you from those whom you cared about, the people you were trying to get to understand you. That doesn't negate the emotions you were feeling, only that you weren't wise enough to know how to explain them; a tragic paradox that comes with maturity. The entire album feels like memories of important, often failed negotiations between self and reality; each track has this nervous energy and yearning to correct a charged, honest misstep. Reminds me of Mirror by Tarkovsky. A very mature album, glad to have found it.

And after all its most eloquently executed expression, i have come to this personal conclusion: -I havent figured out the science to walking through windows. I didnt even see that dang door, and didnt hear the roar from the party until opened. Then someone actually asked me later if i saw the blond try to take out the door. I just shook head, "sorry, nope. Missed that." Lmao Bullets through rotten fruit, id imagine as expression of the heart. Since i honestly wouldnt recommend unless for experiment, likely low caliber pist/rif but whatever, def skip 1st. :) I still wish i could disappear though. Does anyone have a cloaking device yet? Damn. Flowers in a vase check (But still place looks aa dead as me) Dead on vine? Hmm double check. Seams busting out all over the place? I can account for buttons. Boobs love to be seen, and occassionally the jeans after taco night and period bloating. Kinda makes me feel like the toad i scooped out of my pool. But then there definitely goes the windows unless you just barrel throughf. You cant imagine how i And absolutely graceless unless dancing,

Looking back, this is all I ever needed from the National, their whole discog aside. I've watched this when I'm happy, when I'm sad, melancholy and the spaces in between. It always works. Polite despair has its anthem.

there is something about a drinking adventure with friends where you are still drunk when the sun comes up and the fresh grass is being cut by a lawnmower at the local school or suburban households. They nailed it

Oh, the days of smelling the grass in wee-hours. Had a girl back in the day that had a summer college gig at a local golf course mowing. We would party all night and get stupid. I would amble (somehow) home at dawn-ish. I would then bring her something to eat at her break. Memories😁

never, I'm never going to get tired of listening to this song ... the first time I heard it was because my crush told me to listen to other genres of music and chose this song and automatically loved it ...

I'm guessing this, and the music video for Sea of Love where they're grooving as they play the song while wearing the same tuxes and a kid is dancing with them, is supposed to represent the duality of adults. We want to appear sophisticated and well-read, but we honestly want to spend time with our childhood/adolescent selves and have fun without responsibilities. There's immaturity deep within us that's begging to be freed.
