My little sister - who is now 26 - still gets the piss taken out her because when she was 3, she was an angel in her nursery nativity. Her line was "peace on earth", but she couldn't say it. She said "piss on air". It's been written on her Christmas cards ever since.

I just love how secular your religious education must have been; I am legit jealous because I can STILL recite the whole messy story from memory just from three years of parochial school forty (mumblesomething) years ago! My art history education (much more recent) taught me that before the Renaissance, the virgin Mary was also depicted without breasts. This I will never forget because it was the best comedic moment in my whole college experience.

Hope that you and yours are enjoying the festive season. Back in the day, when I was a nipper in primary school in North Wales (about 40 years ago) we did a nativity play where they weaved the legend of Baboushka...( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baboushka_and_the_Three_Kings ) into the story, and they ended it with us all singing Buck's Fizz's 'Land Of Make Believe' ... which subsequently became the UK number one. Erm... after some research, iI just realized that dates it to exactly 41 years ago !! Jeepers, now I feel VERY old ! lol! x

This video is absolutely becoming a tradition in my house! Thank you ladies! I know it's almost a year late, but if your still wondering why it's called The Nativity...Nativity is one of many words born of the Latin verb nāscī, which means “to be born.” The gestation of the word was a long one. Nāscī developed in Late Latin into nativitas, meaning “birth,” which passed through Anglo-French as nativité before entering English in the 14th century.

My earliest memory is watching a nativity puppet show narrated by the donkey. I asked if it was a true story, was told yes, then asked if animals could talk. Was told no then was like “well the story isn’t true then?” And they tried to tell me it was true but that animals couldn’t talk and I was like “well this donkey is telling us a true story but if animals can’t talk how is the donkey telling us, how do we know any of it is true because it’s coming from a story where donkeys talk” I was told to stop asking questions.

I’d pay to see you do all the scriptures 😂😂😂 especially Easter … I mean, you started with Pontius Pilate. Growing up (in Aus), I had Scripture lessons throughout the year, but never did a Christmas play. Nowadays, I work as a musician, and play the morning mass (a family friend is the ‘kapellmeister’ at a church) on Christmas so I sit through the kids doing the nativity play for the congregation. Mind you, it’s in Swedish …

I once played one of the wise men as a kid (Casper I think) and I had to walk around in a circle pretending to ride a camel. And when I bent over the crib of the baby Jesus I had to hold my crown to stop it falling off my head. Another time I played an angel in a choir. We all had to wear silver tinsel around our heads as halos. But they ran out of silver so I had to wear gold tinsel. I was the only one wearing gold so I looked like the archangel/leader. I'm still proud of that to this day lol

First, your outfits are on FIRE. Far funner version then what I got stuck with as Lutheran Church Missouri Synod...though to be honest our sunday school version just required some pillow cases as head coverings, we don't have tea towels here in the USA, or if we do its a different name. anyways onwards to the fun parts Joseph had a donkey cause horses were forbidden to Jews... much like bacon. Virgin historically just meant ya hadn't popped out a kid yet, so Joseph fired blanks and she had to go find her an angel to knock her up. The Angel is out there telling people about the baby shower to happen in some barn, scarin the crap outta shepherds out trying to just get their job done herding sheep. And Mary just there like damn, i'm some kinda carnival freak show cause all these weird people i don't know coming in here with shitty gifts.

16:28 Joseph didn’t need convincing according to Matthew 1:19-23: Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man, yet unwilling to expose her to shame, decided to divorce her quietly. Such was his intention when, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the Holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her. She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because He will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel,” which means “God is with us.”
