Excellent footage and WW2 'propaganda'. However, without denigrating the RN, in 1939 the service was not ready for combat. It would take months to bring the fleet to combat capability and away from Europe commanders as Percival in Singapore still dwelt in a peacetime focus. Thanks to the gross stupidity of the Washington treaty here in Australia we got rid of a battle cruiser only six years old. the Kreigsmarine and IJN proved formidable assets but fortunately part due to poor political command on their part and the breaking of the ENIGMA and PURPLE codes, plus the Allied construction programs, new technology and battle training our navies eventually swept the seas.

I doubt a single battle cruiser would have made any difference to the course of the war in the Pacific at all. Outside of the Uboat arm the Kreigsmarine was too small to challenge the dominance of the Royal Navy. After the sinking of the Graf Spee and Bismarck its surface ships withdrew from any serious role in the war. The Italian navy was far more powerful in surface ships but never ventured out of the Mediterranean Sea and the Taranto attack pretty much put paid to them. The IJN was pretty much finished after the Battle of Midway in June 1942. Four fleet carriers sunk. Losses the Japanese simply couldn't replace. after that it was downhill all the way.

True but considering the fact that they weren't prepared and still carried the battle to the enemy is proof of the superiority of the British & Empire/Commonwealth sailors, soldiers, airmen and industrial out put. Per capita Canada out built the US on a huge scale. As for Percival his nickname was The Rabbit the general he surrendered to was nicknamed the Tiger of Malay
