Randy's bass sounds so good. If only Rich Mouser would mix the next Dream Theater album we might finally hear John Myung like he was meant to be heard.

I don't understand how some really good bands continue to bury the bass in the mix...makes no sense to me. I agree--love how Rich makes the bass POP. Same with Pete's bass in Transatlantic and Dave's bass in Flying Colors. It just makes a huge difference!
@AlexisGitarre
@AlexisGitarre 3 жыл бұрын
honestly I have to disagree with you. The Dream Theater albums you're talking about are very well mixed. Just not ideal for cheap consumer products like earbuds for 30 bucks or some cheap home theater speakers. they used the frequency band to the lowest lows you can get. If I listen on my cheap AKG headphones or some wireless buds I agree with you but as soon as I fire up my studio Monitors (Focal Twin Be in a treated room) or my Shure SE846 I can hear the Bass extremely well. It just sits really low. A Smartphonespeaker can't even produce those frequencies. The standard of audio Equipment rose dramatically in the last decade and so the mix of Dream Theater changed with it to use this broader frequency board. But blatantly saying you can't hear the bass is just wrong. You can't hear it on your LISTENING DEVICE! So therefore for your taste the bass has his dominant area placed in a wrong spot. I just want to make things clear here because lots of people just repeat what's on the internet. I have regular listening parties where friends came over and especially with dream theater, all of them were surprised how powerful the bass is in the recordings. They never heard it like that before because they never were interested in investing more than a 100 bucks in good earphones or speakers + sub

@@jmvm31 Nick Mason has been doing the same fills for even longer and they still sound amazing because that's Pink Floyd's music. People have been running track and field the same way for years--one foot in front of the other! How boring! When are people going to think of a better way to run? like sideways or something! See what I mean? I gauge great playing with these factors: is the tone/touch good? Dynamics? tastiness? Groove? And does it make you feel emotion? That's what matters.

@@jmvm31 All musicians repeat themselves endlessly. Some have a greater variety of "licks" and combine them more inventively than others but it's still repetition. Another great song! Hopefully we'll get another single before the full album release. The compositing errors in the music video, such as the head of Eric's guitar at 1:49 and 6:03, prove that the performers were not captured at the same time. But the clever way the men were filmed at similar camera angles creates a feeling that they really are standing and playing together.

Apart of the song, which is a flawless piece of art and a lesson from amazingly skilled musicians, what amazes me is the humble nature of Mr Neal Morse sharing the videoclip space with all other musicians of the band, making them appear much more time than himself, making the name of the band very proper: "The Neal Morse Band", not "Neal Morse & his band". The new material is certainly sounding more commercial than usual, a little more in the Flying Colors vein, but the instrumental capped by Mike's punctuation at 5:26 is everything one could hope for from NMB. Great video! Can't wait for the release!!

The two songs were of the 'Innocence' side of the album though which i guess is more poppy/shorter songs. Iam excited for the 'danger' side which could be more the long proggy epics.
