The savior of Classic Prog Rock
@Quotenwagnerianer5 жыл бұрын
If he would just drop the constant professing of his personal beliefs. It really got old after the third album. I don't care that has more musical talent in his index finger than others in their whole body, his singular topical lyrics are really getting on my nerves.
@zhrob13 жыл бұрын
@@Quotenwagnerianer Every person professes what he believes. It should not bother anyone if one is sure of where they stand. Morse is not preachy but more so sharing his personal journey I find.
@Quotenwagnerianer3 жыл бұрын
@@zhrob1 Not preachy? It is the sole topic of his songs since he left Spocks Beard. He has literally nothing else to sing about.
@zhrob13 жыл бұрын
@@Quotenwagnerianer A preacher preaches you got to be saved, born again etc. What Morse tends to do instead is create a contrast between darkness and light, touching on the lows of his past in juxtaposition to his present and hopes he shares of the future. Some albums, particularly his solos share more of his personal and emotional side. Then we have Sola Scriptual and Gratia themed projects which reflect his interests. The Pilgrims Progress themed project is masterly done imo and anyone could enjoy it regardless. Innocence and danger is more secular with good tracks. Your opinion is to be welcomed and likewise Neal has done the same. Got to give him credit, he is passionate about God and it has made way for compositions he never would have been able to sincerely pull off. Imo

Innocence and danger was definitely less religious and faith driven

The single best thing about the Neal Morse Band and their music is that you can tell it's just a bunch of buddies having a heck of a time writing and playing music together.

Yeah, I thought so to, then again, Tom Sawyer is also just a story, so not sure if it is really a nod to Rush.

@DrMorbid6 жыл бұрын
This is a classic Portnoy fill. He used it many times in the past - even in relatively early years of Dream Theater. It will most probably be inspired by Neal Peart one way or the other. As is almost everything Mike plays. ;)
@treylh826 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I know he has used that fill quite a bit, so I guess that’s why I mistakenly said what I originally said🤷🏻♂️ I guess I at least recognized it😂

I can't say I agree with the new jams sounding familiar to prior releases as far as tone goes. There's some new synth sounds I havent heard from Neal before, and it has an air of what you dont really want to hear from the keys. I loved the warm vibrant rich sounds from Neal and Bill on Soad. It's hard to describe the reason why that synth sound grates on me. Normally that's what attracted me to Neal's music. He's amazing with melody, build up's and breakdowns, but the structure of this track and it's hooks were everywhere with very little payoff for me as a listener. Does anyone else pick up on this? I've stood firm in my fanboy nature against Neal's detractors since I first heard The Healing Colors of sound back in 2007. He's gotten the meat and bones in his storytelling and it's always had a lasting impression on me. But the substance of this song feels like a build up that's meant to hype you. It may end up being an instance where this ends up being a transition piece like many tracks from Similitude. Some of the instrumentals in Similitude were theme pieces that expressed an emotional output in the story. But from a young man's perspective, as from the main character here, the impact hasn't sunk in. Let's hear some more though. This is one track and it's listenable. I really hope Neal isn't feeling stretched these days, because I'm never losing faith in his writing abilities. He's blown me away continuously
