Pottery Pro Tip 3:
The Needle Trick: Lots of students ask me how do they know how far down they need to go. There’s a little cheat I can share with you. Use your needle tool, stop your wheel and push it straight down through the center of your newly created base until it touches the wheel head. Then push your finger down the needle until it meets the clay. Carefully lift the needle up and look at the length of needle that is above your fingertip. That’s the thickness of your base. Aim for 1/4 inch for a pot without a foot 👍🏻
Compress the base with your thumb to seal the hole😉
