I don't want it as an assassination, though. I want it as a functional weapon mechanic. Like you hold down the melee button to wind up while a kaleidoscoping handle extends out for a powerful melee attack. This way you could rev it up as you round a corner and slam it into someone, and it would become a legitimate mechanic of the weapon. And the balancing aspect would be that it only does does regular melee damage unless you have enough ammo left to actually trigger the super-combine. As in, if you only have 2 needles it's a waste of time to rev up. So while an assassination would be cool, this could be so much more and more fun.

That animation was actually reintroduced in Infinite. It’s a random chance to get, as there’s another default animation for needler melee. Which has been a variant of what we’ve seen since Halo 2. Shame that we don’t got assassinations in Infinite..

Come to think of it that’s a brilliant mechanic. The melee does more damage the more needles it has in the mag, and potentially supercombine exploding the enemy. But if they are about to supercombine you need to run away or the explosion will damage you too lmao.
