The sad parts of this movie stayed with me my whole life..between the horse drowning in the mud and "these look like big strong hands don't they?" that was like a reality check at a young age.

Yaasss! This was my FAVOURITE childhood film. 'Flight of the Navigator' & 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit?' were no.2 & 3. Yeah, I was an 80's kid 🙂💜 As a 7 year old, I vividly remember thinking the Princess was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen -x-

Same re the princess haha. It’s fun watching this reaction; the themes are still kind of poignant and I love the visuals. Falcor still creepy and those b**bs on the terrifying statues get bigger every time?! I genuinely didn’t notice how prominent they were, if at all.

"Falkor thinks that is hilarious!" A fluffy dragon dive-bombing bullies at the behest of a child? I find it pretty hilarious too. The super meta-layers of this movie never really sunk in as a kid - that we too are part of the experience of media.

As someone who did get bullied as a kid, why wouldn't you want a dragon to torment your tormentors?

It took them over a month to train the horse to sink into black goo on a platform that slowly lowered for a 5 second scene. Dedication > CGI. Love it. Your reactions are the best man keep it up \m/.

Even as a kid, I always wondered why he didn't just go home when the bell rang and everyone went home. What little kid would want to stay in some nasty dark-ass school attic alone at night? If he went home he might have had the slim chance of his dad not finding out he ditched class, but coming home and finding out that your kid isn't home yet is going to have his dad asking questions lol You should react to Labyrinth (1986), Legend (1985), and Willow (1988) to continue with your 80's fantasy movies.

Lots of memories from seeing kids movies at a young age in the early 80s. The Secret of NIMH, The Dark Crystal and ET I had already seen before this one and they all left lasting impressions, but this was the one I connected with most. As an adult, it is pretty easy to pick apart this movie's shortcomings and wonky narrative structure - in fact the author of the book sued over how poorly adapted this was (and the adaptations only got worse😂), but for whatever reason, the illogical stuff worked for my 7-year-old mind. When you are that age, your imagination makes you come up with weird, disconnected shit. I dont know, it just felt like the story was made and told by kids and it just made it relatable at that age. And imagination is what this movie is all about. How important it is to have it, to always have it, never lose it. The near-45 year old me still feels the same way. "He got some rock chicken fingers and shit"...lol, that made me spit out my coffee, Showdown. Hilarious.

I about 5 when this came out. It was one of my favorite movies. I've watched it since then as an adult, and had pretty much the same questions as you. It's a great movie but I still don't get the no weapons part. I've got stuff that's always on me, it's as natural as wearing socks. I'm not going anywhere if I can't have my daily attire. Another thing, my parents would've been freaking out if I didn't show up in class and didn't come home. I did have two older kids try to bully me getting off the bus one day, but I had taken karate classes for a while and kicked one of them in the face which put an end to that. I can't even get my leg up that high anymore. I became good friends with the other one, but never really saw the one I kicked much. Great movie though.

This was my favorite movie as a child. We would watch a lot of first run movies over my friend's grandmother's house cause they were the only ones with a VCR at the time (BetaMax in fact, lol) and yes Limahl's The Neverending Story is in my music library-don't judge! When you get a chance please check out Ruthless People a dark comedy from 1986. It will not disappoint.

"Bastian. Why don't you do what you dream, Bastian?" "But I can't, I have to keep my feet on the ground!" "Call my name. Bastian, please! Save us!" "All right! I'll do it! I'll save you! I will do what I dream! ... MOONCHILD!" Fun Fact: The original Auryn for this film now hangs in an enclosed glass display in Steven Spielberg's office. Luck Dragon Fact: Falkor is actually a 43-foot long motorized creature with 6,000 plastic scales and pink feather-fur. His head is three feet tall and long and has a long tongue in the mouth. You can "ride" on Falcor's back on location at the Bavaria Filmpark in Munich, Germany. Authentic Battle Scars Fact: Noah Hathaway was hurt three times during the making of the movie. While learning to ride a horse, his horse threw him off, then stepped on him. While shooting the Swamp Of Sadness drowning sequence, his leg got caught on the elevator and he was pulled under water. He was unconscious by the time he was brought to the surface. Noah Hathaway then almost lost an eye during the fight-scene versus Gmork. One of the claws on his giant paws poked him in the face. The robot was also so heavy that he lost his breath as well when he was hit to the ground by it. They only made one shot due to the risk that he would get seriously wounded. Noah Hathaway now owns and operates a tattoo parlor in Los Angeles, California (as far as I know) with his wife and he loves talking to fans of the movie.
