The Avalanche was criminally underrated. It actually made way more sense in the “suburb truck” role that 1/2 ton crew cab/short bed trucks often fill than the Silverado ever did. Due to the fact that the Avalanche was on the market two full years before a Silverado 1500 crew cab was even offered, it seems that the original intention was for the Avalanche to occupy that space alone. But unfortunately GM really messed up the marketing for the Avalanche, pitching it as a confusing “half truck, half SUV” concept. That plus the somewhat non traditional styling really confused a lot of buyers as to what exactly the Avalanche even was. Thus we got the arguably worse Silverado crew cab in 2004, and the Avalanche died a few years later.

Cars have become very very expensive. Here in Europe it is showing in the sales numbers, sales of EV's are way down and most of it is due to the pricing. For a Ford Mach-E for example you have to pay somewhere between 60 and 70.000 EURO. Which middle class family can afford it? Here in Belgium sales are still reasonable but that's because most of the office workers have a company car as part of their salary package and companies are still buying them for their workers since they are still 100% deductible here where gas/diesel cars only are about 70% deductible. But when the government is changing that (talks are that they are bringing them at the same level as gas/diesel so companies will only get them 70% deductible) sale of EV's will grind to a halt. It happened here before with solar panels, nowadays people aren't installing them as much due to the incentives being gone. And tbh, even gas/diesel cars are getting very pricy these days... (at least here)

You could buy a nice little condominium for that kind of money about 7 or 8 years ago. The idea that you need to drop between 70 and 100,000 bucks for a pickup truck is beyond stupid. That's more than a Year's pay at the lower end for most people. In 1956, my father made $10,000 a year, and a new car cost $2,200 bucks. His first house cost $14,500 bucks. The comparative cost of vehicles and homes nowadays is way more expensive in terms of how much longer it takes to earn the money to buy these necessities. You need to have more outrage about the prices of new vehicles.

I wonder if Tesla was working on negotiating a deal to get the rights to incorporate the split back on future versions of the Cybertruck. I could see people putting in a popup camper in the fall or winter and using the heat from the truck interior heating to heat the popup camper. I was also very excited when I saw the pre-production reviews of this truck. I had a 2002 Avalanche (best vehicle I have ever owned) traded it just before the Covid lockdowns... Bought an F150 with extended bed to replace it (was also going to get a bigger camper and needed more towing).... and I have worked from home ever since. The Ford just sits in the garage. Biggest mistake I have ever made (the F150 King Ranch is a nice truck, but the Avalanche could sit in the garage just easily and not have cost me an arm and a leg). You are correct that the Chevy version does not crab walk. The Sierra EV does crab walk... overall the Sierra version is nicer than the Silverado EV. Would be my pick if I could afford a vehicle that cost more than my house (when I bought it 27 years ago). The 4 wheel steer would make a huge difference on trying to park something of this size... part of why my F150 just stays in the garage... the extended bed makes it very difficult to navigate parking lots and it doesn't fit in a standard parking spot.

Battery EVs are definitely the future. They’re already less expensive than ICE cars in China, where they didn’t drag their feet on keeping up technology and where their enormous consumer market means economies of scale are already kicking in
