I had the current model on order. I called my local VW dealer and changed my order to the facelift model. I plan to have this van for 10 years or more. So I didn’t want to buy the current 2017-2023 model, now that a newer 2024 model is coming. Lucky it wasn’t built yet, so I could change the order. I'm lucky enough to already have a van, so I'm in no great hurry for a new van, so don't mind waiting.

Hi guys, I drove the new golf this year and it had that same infotainment screen system for controlling everything and it was bloody awful!! Trying to turn on the windscreen demister or heater controls was actually dangerous while driving as you have to look at the screen, not the road. While my husband was driving i was controlling the menu system,like a co pilot . They say dont use a phone while driving but yet they want you to play with an Ipad!! stick to buttons for the important stuff i say. Glad my Vw Crafter has old school buttons.. Love the reviews of all the vans you do. Cant wait to see Sven Hedin when it arrives.

You have hit the nail on the head. Illegal to be distracted and use a phone but apparently OK, to take your eyes off the road to operate minor controls. Knobs and switches that you can feel operate in the dark and without taking your eyes off the road for me every time.

Voice control: Argggh !! A bit of gimmicky fun for the fist few weeks then it was all disabled my new Mercedes because it takes much longer give a verbal instruction than flick a switch ot turn a knob. In addition you have to stop a conversation or lose the thread if you are listening to a radio program and you are lucky if it understands you first time. Same issue with touch controls my wife’s Golf - the driver interface has got worse, not better. We have replaced the vehicle with the older model to get rid of the horrible touch controls but it still has the digital cockpit that we like. I specifically made sure that my MAN TGE 4x4 for our camper conversion was “old school”

BIG no to that screen. Have 2 cars controlled by those screens and its a bloody nightmare when driving and I dont want it in my van! Handbrake would be good and safety systems are great, but can also be really buggy, but overall I'm happy our van is a '23 model and already built.

I don't like screen control for radios either - I genuinely think it's a safety issue as you take your eyes off the road to try and find the spot on the screen you have to hit.

If you have VB air suspension to use the self levelling function you have to have the ignition off and the handbrake off. This is difficult with electronic handbrakes as some will not disengage unless the ignition is on.

Ive got a MWB 4motion Crafter in order, I placed the order on the 9th of march 2022 and I don't expect to see the van until march 2024. Im glad I've got pre facelift. I just been back to England to visit family and hired a golf with the screen and all touch screen fax controllers etc , digital dash I hated it, lane assist etc I plan on travelling outback Australia in mine and I couldn't think of anything worse than all the extra digital stuff while bouncing down a outback road 😂😂

163 was the highest engine power in the old shape . Pre 2017 . Merc shared platform.

So I’m coming from this as somebody who has CP (cerebral palsy) who needs to travel in their chair whether that be powered or manual (I’m a hybrid wheelchair user). The big highlight for me is definitely the electronic parking brake because it means that I wouldn’t have to go to a mobility conversion company and do a soft mod essentially. I don’t like the shift/gear change for the automatic or the climate control (the latter has to do with sensitivity when it comes to touch sliding). In terms of gear changing in terms of me myself and I, I basically have a fixed wrist and my right side is my worst affected side when it comes to my CP even though I’m affected in all four limbs (both legs and arms). As a nerd, the thing I am looking forward to is probably the 12.9 inch screen even though it’s probably going to be a paid extra (who said bigger isn’t better 😜). I’m also super happy for the digital cockpit. I just have a funny feeling that vehicle manufacturers are going to start making things difficult for mobility converters going forward, I’ve especially seen this in relation to EV’s. EV’s another huge conversation but long story short I don’t consider them to be the future.

350k Crafters sold . Each one with the same faults . EGR Cooler , Fuel pump failure , injectors , Fuel rail , Turbo Actuator failure, Adblue tank pump failure , Drive shafts snapping ,pistons melting . And generally poor dealer service. VW / MAN

Would be interesting to see the stats on warranty / failure rate of them to see just how many of the 350,000 have had problems.

Have you noticed the change in shape of the roof on the 600. It looks an awful lot better now, I think it is more squared off.

Will I know you don’t like Ducato but all the new stuff on the Crafter are simply catching up with the tech on the latest Fiat Ducato. Previous van of the year.

I have an id3 and just got my MAN TGE3. Nothing here makes me think I should have waited. I have the handbrake to allow for swivels. That is the only bonus on new vans (and only on autos). Air con is the biggest draw back. Trying to change while driving in the ID3 is so hit and miss. Heated seats and steering wheel - numerous taps away, not a quick tap of a button. Digital cockpit....phah...take or leave. I had read somewhere MAN we're going to offer tuning from factory....maybe that is a 140tuned to 163? What's not mentioned. If anything like the ID3. Plastic quality dropped a lot...very important in a can. Anyway....I'm more than happy with mine as is and nothing here makes me wish I had newer version

Don’t know how I stand ,ordered my VW Crafter last month with the company that’s doing the conversion which isn’t until Oct next year2024 ,so will it be old stock or the new model 🤔here’s hoping it’s the new model 🤞🤞Asked the company and they didn’t know but I’m not bothered either way 👊👊

Feel sorry for people waiting for delivery now as their vans will look so old fashioned very quickly. VW have changed already the dreadful haptic steering wheel and gone back to buttons. Only the few with an agenda would want the current model

True, although the other way of looking at it is that the changes are relatively minor so wouldn't be worth cancelling an order and adding another year onto delivery for ?

@@CampervanTimeNot to mention probably a £5000 price increaseover the already eye watering prices. I heard there was a £3000 price increase just for the old to facelift change. But if you have one on order it is probably at least one price change ago already. If you cant order until April thats another price increase away...then you wont get it until some time in 2025. Get it ordered and get on with life is my thinking. I have a lwb 4x4 on order and its been nearly 2 years wait. If it comes early next year I will be really happy and not worry about a big screen and a few new buttons.😉

I’ve had a crafter on order since August last year. Now due for delivery in July next year. I put a deposit on a new one, but have no idea what to do now. Absolute shit show. Us in Australia probably won’t get the facelift for a couple of years anyway.
