@charlesdudek7713 Жыл бұрын
@@DullPoints I've had my Deka about a year now. It's probably in my top three favorite knives. I did contact the company because the deep carry pocket clip was a little weak. They sent me a gen1 clip and I like that much better. Its size and weight is perfect for carry no matter what you're wearing and the blade size is big enough for most jobs and it's very slicey if you're cutting food. Just don't jam the butt of the knife into the meat of your hand when flicking the knife closed because the tip of the blade comes close to the end of the scales and it will bite you. I learned that when I first received it. I repositioned my grip and it's no longer an issue.

I bought the Hogue K320 largely based on your review. The original Deka interested me but the clip and way too many screws were issues. This version fixes those problems and I am seriously considering it. Every time I decide that I have “enough” knives a new one comes along.

Fun fact: The reason the original liners were so weird and out of place is they weren't designed for that knife. Hogue reused their liner design from their Ritter models. From a manufacturing standpoint, it makes a lot of sense to reuse existing parts. From a design standpoint, it resulted in a design element that was really out of place. If you disassemble a Ritter and an OG Deka, you'll see what I'm talking about

Nice video Wayne. You gotta give Hogue credit for listening to their customers and fixing the minor issues many folks had with the Deka while keeping everything good about it. That doesn’t happen very often. One small critique - the part you kept calling the internal frame is a partial liner, or just “liner”.

Unfortunately I have to take everything you said with a few grains of salt. I have two Dekas and both had serious flaws. My sample size is small, yes, but it's enough for me to swear off Dekas for the foreseeable future. I also have two of the Hogue Doug Ritters (regular and mini) and they are both fine. The Deka issues: I have a clip-point gen 1 red/white/blue SMKW exclusive and a section of the edge near the belly was rolled. It was easy enough to fix but I paid $140 for it not $20. The other issue was with the pocket clip, I'm a leftie and when I went to swap the clip, the bottom screw of the filler plate on the reverse side of the knife came out easily enough, but there was a spiral of the material that it had been threaded into, wrapped around the screw. Of course this completely ruined the screw hole. My work-around was to use some red thread-locker but I don't fully trust the clip now, so I don't carry the knife. The other Deka I got specifically to try the MAGNACUT!!!! Yeah! Unfortunately this second gen clip-point Deka was also plagued with issues. It also had a rolled edge on a section of the blade just before the belly. Again it wasn't difficult to fix, actually surprisingly so. I was expecting more resistance from the Magnacut. The fancy-plastic scales (Cerakote??) are horrible. Once you tap on the scales, you can't unhear that hollow clacking sound. It actually makes the Bugout's Grivory scales seem reasonable in comparison. The scales function ok from a structural perspective, other than the hand pinching unfinished inside edges that I had to "finish" myself. This sample also had really bad lock-stick and when I tried to disassemble the knife it wouldn't come apart even after all the screws were removed. I had jam a screwdriver in the female part of the pivot and tap the opposite side of the knife with a small rubber hammer to drive the pivot out. Then the lock cage also refused to disengage from the scales. I saw another KZbinr struggle with this as well, so I know it wasn't just me. Reassembling this Deka is a freaking nightmare. I fully expected this based on the disassembly issues but it was a nightmare nonetheless. When the Ultem MagnaCut Deka was released I briefly entertained picking it up, but I just couldn't take the chance on another potentially flakey Deka. I guess the Hogue Deka team have a QC issue? The Ritters are contrastingly flawless. Maybe DR said "Listen Hogue I wan't exactly THIS, no compromises no BS exactly this! Another possibility is that Hogue couldn't afford to have the Ritters fit, finish and reliability take a huge plunge after the move from Benchmade. All I know is that if a Ritter RSK in Ultem pops up, I'd be on it immediately. None of the other Ultem offerings on the market right now appeal to me.

Great video, and happy to see that companies started noticing your channel, very exciting! This is probably my next knife, but I do have a quick question - being so close in size and handle to blade ratio to the Bugout, is this one of them knives where you should be slightly worried about the palm being sliced when swinging it shut?
@WaynesSharpWorld3 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, not at all. I’ve always found that the way any crossbar lock requires me to position the knife in my hand to close the blade, eliminates any chance of cutting my palm.
@Timmayytoo3 жыл бұрын
Maybe if you have absolutely massive hands so that the butt of the handle rests in your palm, but I’ve never come close to cutting myself while closing it and my hands are wider than average.

Both steels are totally fine for what you’d be using it for. The 20CV model comes with G10 scales and the Magnacut model comes with polymer scales (same material as the K320 Nitron). That’s really the only difference.
