I like the holster For the pliers. Good idea I think I'll pick one of those up. Those 2 Knives look so similar it takes someone like you to see the difference and to tell everyone about it.

Speaking as an apartment maintenance tech with all the tools, sometimes the smaller and “multi use” mindset means you are not carrying a huge amount of weight. I agree with what you are saying 💯. That and definitely using my crap. This is why I started watching your content. And will keep doing so. Real person doing real world work

Here’s a few ideas for adding holding power to the Deka pocket clip. Remove the clip and reinstall it in the opposite direction with it hanging in the air. That allows you to over-bend it a little so you should have more tension when you reinstall it the correct way. You could also roughen the back of the clip and scale with coarse sandpaper to add some friction. Both things require you to experiment a bit, something that’s a piece of cake for someone like you that is used to doing what is needed.

I usually do not have a knife planned for a particular project at the beginning of the day, so my daily carry is something that is handy for different needs and light. For the past couple months it has been the Bugout. I am a late arrival to the Bugout fan club. It is head and shoulders above the other knives in my collection when it comes to minimal weight and minimal profile. I keep stuff in my pockets, and not those butched-up fanny packs that I see being sold these days. The bugout sits neatly in my pocket next to my overstuffed wallet, and I hardly feel the weight of it. Buttoned-down reliability whenever I needed the blade. I avoided the Bugout for a long time because I thought Benchmade didn't make much of an effort with what I thought was a dated design. Now, I know the design was purposeful, and the knife fulfills that purpose very well.

Love the bugout! A very robust yet slicey blade. For work knives ive been enjoying the stretch 2 k390, the cruwear pm2, and the xhp native chief. I recently helped my wife get all her own tools at home depot (tool belt, hammer, speed square, tape, pliers, cats paw, flat bar, safety glasses, and utility knife all for $80.) Worth it to have spares and extras around when you want to get shit done. Im still a huge fan of pocket tools.

The pocket clip retention on mine was good... until I brushed up against a doorway. It'll bend if you look at it wrong. I can can easily bend it up with my pinky finger. It's like something you'd buy out of a bin for 10 cents.

I just got my deka, and the clip is actually spot on. Hopefully that means i got a more recent run with the harder blade!! I havent had to sharpen it yet so we will see on the stones! So far I absolutely love this knife. I think ill toss on the xl skinny goat scales and itll be perfection.

Ah, the box of shop rags behind you, always a great thing to have. We're both people of culture, I do the same thing. At least the FRN handles are very strong in a compression sense (vertically from the edges). I have some compression nerve damage in my fingers from doing stupid things in my youth, pulling too hard on thin things like straps or carrying them for too long. I use the Deka (closed, of course) as a T-handle for carrying heavy trashbags, and as a T-handle in a marlinspike hitch to crank down on trucker's hitches. It hasn't completed or creaked at all in that usage. I should be using a stick instead, of course, but like you say ... it's what I have on me at the time. :D Oh, and my fingers are just right for that choil. XL/XXL hands, though. Maybe they were trying to prep for a good choil while wearing leather gloves.

I am not sure which run of Deka I have. I swapped the scales with the gorgeous scales from RC Bladeworks. So no issues with the clip may be due to the grabbier surface of the micarta scales. Highly recommend the RC Bladeworks scales 👍👌. My Deka is my work knife and so far so good 👍👌. I am still waiting on my Tanto bugout.

seems to me like you may be better suited to one of the dekas in 20cv with the g10 handles instead of frn. the new magnacut ones are also heat treated better at 63-64, you’d prob enjoy the newer runs and particularly the knifecenter exclusive ones that have the g10 handles from the 20cv with the magnacut blade on them

Erica, a friend let me look at his Sandrin knife with carbon fiber scales and tungsten carbide blade. Boy is it thin and very sharp. I hope you will get a chance to handle one. It is the Torino Recoil lock one and just over 2 ounce weight. Just haven't bought a BM since my Griptilian in 2015. Glad your making progress on both of your new homes. Hope all your dogs are doing fine also.

You are probably already talked about this but how are you carrying these? As a pair, or one at a time? Like Deka and Bugout then Mini Grip and RSK. Or is it like Deka and RSK then Bugout and Mini Grip? Does Benchmade and Hogue complement eachother if you carry one of each?

Clearly a Benchmade biased presentation with no fact in regard to handle materials, material strengths, heat treating, and design. Both knives are designed as lightweight outdoor knives, not utility knives. The handles on both are made from the same type of fiberglass-reinforced polymer. Not the quality of objectivity that I'm used to on this channel.

Hogue has a reputation for soft HT, I don’t know that it is a first run issue. Hogue’s “As Is” lack of warranty statement is a kind of shit business practice that stands out as an anomaly amongst high end knife manufacturers. I don’t think they have an incentive to improve, as they do not even guarantee against defects.
