Its worth noting that the "verification" of hotel is not merely checking. It must be pointed out that the purpose is to verify if tourist entering Boracay is actually booked in a hotel which is accredited by the Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT). Its part of the effort in making sure Boracay remains clean, coz hotels which are not compliant with environmental regulations arent accredited by the DOT. Thus, only accredited hotels (compliant hotels) are allowed to acommodate tourists.

I was in Boracay last May of this year and I did find it cleaner. The one thing that I miss about the new Boracay are the evening activities. Before the rehab, in the evening restaurants had dinner buffets and diners were seated on the beach itself. Also, there were people just promenading or hanging out at the beach and the beach was always brightly lit. Kids made sand castles (they are not allowed to build sand castles anymore). So my point is: Evenings in Boracay are practically dead. I plan to go to Boracay possibly in another 4 to 5 years from now. The last trip I had was my 6th anyway.

Phillip Palana: Thanks for the info. It kinda says Boracay is now boring? Nightlife in Boracay was so fun in the past. I guess after the sun goes down and having dinner we have to go back to the hotel and watch TV

We just came back to US from Boracay last end of June for 4 nights. It is was nice until you start getting sick, diarrhea from the water source. The place is nice and clean which I like until you smell sewer from the water source. We went to McDonald and ordered drinks and you can smell sewer, also the hotels we stayed at, Le Soleil and Astoria. I highly recommend coming here once for few days, and more once they fix the water source/sewer system. Yes we did most of the activities here, weather permiting. We enjoyed them, especially the kids. Thanks PD30!

We bought mineral water, sealed bottle from the store. The pineapple juice from McDonald is probably uses water from tap. We did not drink tap water, even water from the restaurants, we always get soda in can. Sometimes you cannot avoid it if you order coffee, or other soda machine that uses water from tap.

Boracay is sadly over...lived there for almost 4 years in early 90's when it was still paradise...now covered with hard councrete buildings....what a shame...destroyed coral reefs ...when i recall close site such as coral garden which was then, a pristine reef and we could dive there for ever captured by the beauty it endlessly displayed and i'm not mentioning the other dive sites, Such as Yapak! After Punta Bunga...the beauty of Puka shell, bulabog, Diniwid were astounding but money money along with heavy corruption is the sad result and the fate of this amazing island same in Thailand with Koh Phi Phi...

Just got back from there a couple weeks ago. I spent 3 weeks in the Philippines, one week in Boracay. Last time I was there was in 2007 and you can certainly see the improvements. Especially in regards to the beach areas, vastly improved with wider and cleaner beach areas. Certainly also a lot less "beach vendors" than before. Also the water quality has most certainly improved, before it always a green algae. Now crystal clear. You still have the tour boat folks, massage clinics and restaurants trying to get customers. But overall improved. My only recommendation is if your planning to go there and you can wait a while, like a year. I would recommend this just do to finish of construction as they stated on the inner roads area. But certainly worth a visit.

Whoops ! just noticed @ 7:20 you have your station # 1 & # 3 backwards . I won't miss the drinking but I will miss my beach lounging and the wonderful massage ladies along the beach who tendered to my aching feet from all the walking there ! I first went there in 2006 and been back several times since then, the over development over that period I found quite frankly mad. All my favorite places disappeared (ie Crystal Sands boutique hotel) in place massive crass developments appeared, the place became unrecognisable and often horrible. Progress? NOT. And amount of package tourists being packed in was off the scales - standing room only on the beach. but what a beach! Didn't manage to pick up much info about these problems being addressed from your video. btw, the sewerage was mainly being dumped on the other side of the island and most of the big hotels are schemes but the rich people there who are used to getting their own way.
